The Making of CMC Automata

- If you hadn't guessed it from the title, this video brings you through the creative process of my crafting automata, specifically the three Cutie Mark Crusaders sold at the Cutie Mark Convention charity auction in Cincinnati. I was actually invited to do a live panel at first but I'm terribly shy to a fault so I cooked this up instead.
Music:
Serenade of the Doll
Golliwogg's Cake Walk
Doctor Gradus as Parnassum
by Claude Debussy
performed by Chris Breemer
from Pianosociety.com

YAS
OMFG Everybody like and +1 this comment so he sees it! (Or she)
He wouldn't just make it to you personally for free.
I *LOVE* the idea! And I'd *love* to see that actually done!
Your work is incredible. I hope you feel the same awe as I'm sure many of us viewers do. Extremely fine craftsmanship
All that and no video of the movement? I feel cheated.
SpiritBear12
he already has a video of them moving
me to I was only watching it for the movements
You have rendered me absolutely speechless and slack-jawed with your skill and craftsmanship on display here!
I've been waiting for this kind of video. Quite fascinating to watch the work behind your astonishing creations. Great work!
Almost alive. Incredible work. I was mesmerized looking at your work. And the painting is fabulous too.
Beyond amazing. Amazingly beautiful. Amazing talent. We are in awe. We def appreciate hand made wooden toys, objects, etc
These are all so *cool!!!!* I know they're all from a few years ago, but I sure hope you feel inspired to make some new ones, because I just love 'em so!
I'm blown away. I truly am, and now feel I can appreciate hand-crafted work like this more.
You are a genius! The amount of skill here is unbelievable.
Amazing work.
Well u may b terribly shy, but u r terrifically talented!! My daughter and I look forward to each creation! She is 6 and thinks we can now try to do this after watching ur video! Lol I don't think so! U r very talented!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful woodwork! We could never afford to buy one , but they r worth every penny of ur time! Thx again
Very nice! Great video!
wonderful! They look amazing! and it was fun to watch! :3
Thank you for putting up the video. It really makes anyone who sees them really appreciate how much design and work that you put into everything you make.
It does hurt to see the Scootaloo automata. I really would have liked to keep the set together. But I have Sweeite Belle, and Apple Bloom safely in a glass and aluminum display. I will be bringing them to Trotcon in a couple weeks to let other fans of your work see them first hand. :)
Amazing!
Wow what an artist
So beautiful .3.
I believe you are a genious!!!
where can a person learn to make such wonderful art
your work is wonderful, I love their robots, want more work to be displayed elaborate whatever wood shelves, toys etc your work is wonderful
what kind of wood used and used paint to make them so brightly colors? congratulations
Thank you for providing this look into the process. I'm rather surprised at how straightforward the creation of the gears is. I rather expected there to be a more involved jig for cutting them out.
So cool!
lol. love the use of Golliwog's Cakewalk. perfect! xD
How do you know where each string goes to make them do what you want them to do! oh my god this is just so amazing
Great woodwork! Beautiful intricacy... Yet, for the brass (I'm guessing it was brass?) or Applebloom's hula hoop what type of solder did you use? Silver? Or Tin?
This is awesome! Truly amazing work~
I'd really love to see more making-of videos from you!
I also have a question; how many layers of color paint did you use?
Amazing work my dear fellow...person...who ever you are. You have much talent in your digits. And I loved the music. But I have one query ! Why didn't we get to see them in action ? Isn't that the point ?
Keep up the good work.
You, sir, are truly amazing. c:
OMG THIS IS SOOOOOOO AWSOME ITS MORE THAN 20% AND I LOVE THIS IT SOOOOO AWESOEM EEEEE
Amazing
I feel like I say this a lot, but damn, there are some really talented people in this community. Amazing stuff.
Man it's awesome to see a making-of video of them! You're so good at doing what you do! :)
I just have one question: do sanding sealer and primer work on most clay materials?
Hola hay mucho talento y mucha creatividad les felicito
amazing craftsmanship but i have to say that i am very, very, very, disappointed that i didn't get to see the creations in motion. it's a huge bummer. i mean, i'll go on, but barely... hahaha. is there a video of these lovely things in motion?
This video shows how I made them. They each have their own separate videos showing the movement.
great! that's what i was hoping. can u send the link for the movement video, please?
You'll find them in my channel. Just click on my avatar or username and go to videos.
clearly i'm still a noob. thanks!
***** You have a very well talent, a skill that has been down for about 80 years? I can't imagine that people back then have to make thousands of these to make for each one, but to see something like this really makes me feel happy to be part of the brony community and the toy making community. This video is well done and the music is perfect, this video deserves to be view by millions of viewers worldwide looking up to you and enjoying how things were by hand in the past..
simply amazing! beautiful craftsmanship! is there a reason for doing it by hand as oppose to using a cnc router? or thinner wood and using a laser cutter?
That would be because I don't have a cnc router or laser cutter. And doing everything manually adds to the value.
I love this video :)
Btw pasta is in cool maybe before people comment
can i buy one from u these r just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo AMAZING!
i wish i could do this
Me too
These are incredible! I can't even imagine the patience and skill that these pieces require. How long does it take you to make them? I've read in the descriptions of your videos that each one takes over one hundred hours, but how do you spread the hours out? Do you do five hours a day and make one per month, or do you spread it out a lot more?
You are as good as the Hermes craftmen. Here take my money.... I want them all.
I WANT ONE NOW!!!
Amazing jest amazing that is cool
Wow soo you draw first and make them! Thats actually pretty cool drawing skills rigth there!
WAIT I CAN DRAW THAT MEANS I CAN MAKE THIS!!!!
Wow your great at that do u sell them?
*I*
*MUST*
*HAVE*
*THEM*
*ALL!!!!!*
That is so cool
Dude your talented
Wow eres fabuloso
me quede esperando que se movieran...
cuando tenia 5 hasta los 13 años hacia juguetes en madera, pero nada comparados con tu trabajo.
de igual forma te doy 11 de 10, tienes mis respeto.
So, I'm wondering how you figure out the mechanisms for each automata. How do you make the image in your head work in real life? (sorry, i know nothing about automata and i'm super curious how you go about making one)
真有創意呢~
In the past few months I've joined the herd and I must say that I keep coming across fellow members who have incredible talents - video, music, art, writing. This is one of the more if not most impressive displays of pure dedication and talent yet. I assume you are a big fan of the show. I'm working on a story with the characters and I have never been so driven creatively in my life. It's a complete story and will probably be over 100 pages long. What is it? Can somepony tell me?
what!! I thought the figures were 3D printed! this is amazing!!
I wish I could do this! its amazing what humans can do, isn't it?
I am truly saddened by the fact that i was unaware of, and not present for this auction.
Спасибо 😊
Seems a little motion of the items would be fitting here :)

You have to wonder if the paint would brush off if used enough
They only can stay like that?

Why didn't you show them actually working? I waited the entire time to see them in action. Strange. Beautiful pieces though. Nice work. Very lifelike.
Each one have their own uploaded videos showing the action. This is just the process in making them.
