My father bought my sister and I one of those 'cones' with the inset stick puppet. I remember it quite clearly even though I was about six years old, forty five years ago. Great models here. Very impressive. The ending 'hospital' building is extremely so. Thank you for posting these tiny wonders.
These were amazing! The chicken dispenser, the proposer, the canoe was excellent, and I have to say, The Cat and The Fiddle, is the best. I love the way the little kitty jiggles, that would crack me up forever :D The crank system that went into The Hospital and Spaghtetti man are mind boggling. Thanks for sharing, so interesting!
I owned a few of these as a child, I never thought of them as automata but I guess they were. I had the wooden chicken pecking 'bat', the clown in the cone (they used to make and sell those at the school fayre every year), and the wobbly dog with the spring loaded base (he was a generic plastic toy though). My fave toy was a wind-up tin robot that walked and emitted sparks from his chest! Thanks for the memories.
