I have mahogany slingerlands from the same era! 22,16 +13" still sound great! Uhh rumor has it that Bohnam on zep l played Slingerland,s on that first album!!! He had a set of blue sparkle 22,16+13" set!!!! I always thought Slingerlands had a lot more bark than Ludwig's!!!
You have done a beautiful job restoring this kit and it sounds great. I have a 1982 TAMA Superstar Birch kit, no wrap, that I have been wanting to restore. It still sounds great but shows the wear of 42 years on the road. Thanks for inspiring me to get to work on it.
I used to have a set of black badge mahoganys but they were a six piece (2x22, 12, 13 racks and 16 floor and a chrome black badge snare). Unfortunately I wasn’t that knowledgeable about restoration etc (got them cheap at a yard sale when I was in high school) and they just got beat all to hell. Wish I had them still cos it was a great kit when it was in good condition.
Could you please comment on the various brands of drums that you’ve played? Ludwig, Rogers, Slingerland, Gretsch,… could you perhaps even do a video about your opinion on these famous brands? I’m sure that many of us would appreciate that. Thank you!
Sure, I've owned kits from just about every major brand at some point, DW, Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, Gretsch, Ludwig, slingerland, premier and so on. The only two I can think of not owning or at least playing is mapex and Rogers. Rogers just don't pop up that frequently in my area for some reason. They're on the list to get some day and that's a good idea. I can certainly go over the ones I own currently and my experiences with others. Great value! Your right mahogany is pretty when the clear coat goes on it because it does bring out the wood grain.

@@MeTuLHeD it's like an 1/8 or so round over with a relief cut on the inside rering.
@@shawnsdrumcave Yep. Kind of a half roundover with an inside cut. Pretty common on older kits. Love it. It's why those toms boom with such authority.
