Nice to see you here. I’ve watched all your daily videos. Well almost, I’m sure one day I’ll need to learn sketch up or whatever that is. Keep on keeping on :)
TBO, he didn't do the jump test from the front, with his weight on the center. I only say this because that's what my kids would do...lean on or put their weight on the FRONT, where it is weakest. That being said. Excellent build, and something I would struggle to make, let alone design.
My sister is building a house in the future. Showed this to her, and she loves the design. So I guess I'm ordering the plans soon... lol. I won't be able to resist making it my own, though. Thanks for showing this. I always love what I've dubbed your "Clean European" design. Light woods and clean lines.
I wasn't sure about the raised trim around the top then I remembered how often I manage to knock my my glasses into the crack between the bed and night stand.
I knock almost anything on the nightstand, so it is a cool feature. And if you spill water or something it can be better contained, my wife is a specialist spilling water on hers.
it made me wonder if there was a better way of setting them in case you wanted to remove the drawer. maybe if one pair of dowels were set in a way that they could, with some force, slide up and down.
I think you could screw little blocks of wood in there instead of one pair of dowels. That way you can unscrew them easily to remove the drawer. Or am I missing something? Never built a drawer myself.
I recently moved in with my girlfriend, and I really felt you when you said "now Rachel wants me to make two of them." I love being able to make things for my girlfriend and our house! It's funny how the list of things to build grows faster than I can check them off, though
Excellent job thanks for posting. You are the best IMO on TH-cam .I really enjoy you explaining everything. I will be buying your plans and make my wife happy too.
"Shoulda used the pantorouter for this one." I'm glad you didn't! It's refreshing to see a video that doesn't include the screw-advance box-joint jig or the pantorouter.
Phenomenal as always! I was expecting to see the box joint jig make an appearance initially, but then thought ‘ahh pantarouter jointery’ ... You have all the tools in your joint bag!!
I like that you showed that while a Pantorouter would've been easier, it's quite possible to make strong and accurate enough joints with a much simpler (to build accurately) tenon jig, and a strip sander for radius forming.
Great project! My favorite trick you used was cutting the drawer sides when you put the second side against the first to square the end without hitting your stop block. Great way to maximize efficiency.
Very nice build! Makes me want to more than ever get my wood shop set up. I was going to French cleat but your video on custom holders has be sold on making those! Thank you for all your videos 🙂
Hey Matthias, I haven't seen you use the tapering jig you use at 1:09 before, is that something you built? Looks really simple yet flexible compared to other designs i've seen (including the one I've built).
Bilal Saleem: Microjig sent him these clamps unsolicited hoping for a free plug. Mathias mentioned them once, but kind of dissed them as not well designed. Then he actually builds the jig for the clamps they sent him, uses the jig quite successfully to accomplish the cuts in this video, but doesn’t retract his earlier downplay of the clamps. Sigh! But I still love him....
@@RobertABradley he didn't diss the clamps, he dissed the push blocks made by the same company. he did say that the clamps were a little pricey, but other than that he liked them.
I've been watching your channel since I was 13 and really enjoying your friendly nature and skilful creations. Have you ever thought of making a telescope? It is a bit more than just woodwork, but I'm sure it's nothing you can't handle!
Wendell, I am also a Brazilian and a carpenter, seeing his old website and reading his history and his projects, I saw the tribute he did to his father, I was thrilled and happy to pay this tribute. strong hug and happiness ..
As a woodworker my most difficult customer is my wife. Even when I make mockups and use Sketch up, requirements are vague and often contradictory. I trust Rachael likes her new nightstands. It's nice to use your talents to bring happiness to your loved ones. Finally - how often have we seen Matthias wear a shop apron?
Mathias jump test, no doubt they look great and are sturdy. I want to see the drawer jam packed like my wife does and then fully extended all the way out. Will it tip over, we need a test Mathias...lol
Wait... bucket with a board is supposed to be temporary ?
I've drilled a hole through mine so I can also use the bucket as a basket for trash.
turn the bucket upside down and you don't even need a board
Is 15 years temporary?
@@PhilepZ Or run a power cord through it to plug a phone/alarm/whatever
Lift the top off and you have a bed pan
That's gorgeous!
Hey, this is Sir Matthias, not a mere mortal, man.
Nice to see you here. I’ve watched all your daily videos. Well almost, I’m sure one day I’ll need to learn sketch up or whatever that is. Keep on keeping on :)
He should’ve painted them green!
Matthias, did you skip over the part where pocket holes are used everywhere?
Wow I was not expecting a stacked jump test. They're pretty sturdy!
Yeah, I was thinking he'd show that you can stack these but then he jumped! Oh man, very impressive!
This man trusts his own workmanship and isnt even afraid to show it on camera.
Would have been funny though if they collapsed.
Jumps for Canada.

You've inspired me to make a bedside table which is also a dust collector.
Can also be used as a mouse trap, in a pinch!
They remind me of the old school desk that I sat in every classroom I was in during grade school. Very cool.

your sister wants to live in a side table?
@@vladtepes97
Why not. Just scale it up and you're good to go
@@vladtepes97 if she felt she could get away with it, probably. It's certainly a lot cheaper.
LoooooL "Clean Canookistani"

I knock almost anything on the nightstand, so it is a cool feature. And if you spill water or something it can be better contained, my wife is a specialist spilling water on hers.
And the occasional spill of liquid...
just move your night stand closer to your bed so there is no crack. Problem solved.
@@R168Y it's impossible to get the nightstand any closer to the mattress, there is a headboard and wooden rail in the way.
I've always enjoyed your ideas and work. May God continue to bless you.
thats a nice clean design. well done.
"relatively elegant" you sir, have a very humble definition of elegance.
I like that the trim forms raised fiddles around the top edge. Stops glasses, phones and stuff from falling.
The pins to stop the drawer is quite a neat idea. Haven't seen that before.
it made me wonder if there was a better way of setting them in case you wanted to remove the drawer. maybe if one pair of dowels were set in a way that they could, with some force, slide up and down.

Me: Whats wrong with butt joints on a nightstand drawer? How strong does it need to be?
Wandel: Time for the jump test
Me: Oh damn.
His a brave man with full trust in his skills. Difficult not to love this guy.
my luck i would land half on it fall too the floor then the night stands land on my head .. he likes his jump test ..
Really like watching you build original design furniture...can see just a bit of your dad's influence in your designs.
Your channel is pure gold. Thanks for the posts!
Definitely one of the coolest looking projects you've had and obviously quite sturdy
Wow! A cantilever is beautiful and practical for nightstands !
I like the design. The seem really ergonomic!

Nice design. I could immediately tell how it fits with other furniture you have previously made for your house. Well done!
Beautiful side tables, love the design 🌿🌿🌿

Oak is such a pretty wood. I can't think of a better wood for furniture.
This is unbelievably satisfying

I love your engineering. This piece reminds me of my elementary school desk. Very nice design.
what a great design and even better video showing how to make- thanks I truly enjoy watching you make stuff
"So i setup this bucket with a board on top." Full stop = funniest woodworking video ever!

I love this leg design you use a lot.
That metal drawer slide makes that one nightstand the most deluxe I have ever seen.

Beautiful as always!
I'm watching this video for relaxation, to cool down my head after work.
"Shoulda used a pantarouter for this"
Were you subconsciously trying to remind yourself why you made that machine in the first place? :P
Nice work, bringing in a little more decorative design without losing your normal utilitarian quality.
Great video.. nice sharing,, I like woodworking too..💕
This was great. Love your work and designs.
Another high quality video.
I really like the lip around the top. Has a sort of maritime feel to it. Plus it prevents your phone and other misc pocket junk from falling off.
HI Matthias Great design! Love the top design so items do not fall off. Another project for me! Cheers from Nova Scotia
