    Two things:
    * With the new class progression system for weapons it is often possible to decrease the reloading time.
    * Always reload when there is a lull in the battle. Don’t wait until you run out of bullets in the mag or until enemies attack.

      Yep, I run the Agripinaa slug shotgun with the Tactical Reload talent and Full Bore blessing, practically turns it into a bolt action rifle that bullies to death anything it doesn't kill outright.

    The bolter on Space Marine 2 is really sweet but there's something else about holding a bolter with a normal ass guard and just unload it and feel the character morph with permanent shoulder and spine damage

      Fallout 76 was arguably more shameless in monetization too. I will never understand Bethesda's mission to make their own community not only fix their games, but also charge for and take commissions for the fixes that their community makes. Makes the day one cash shop in darktide look consumer-friendly

    As a person who has actually been playing this game since the Closed Beta Test, and has put in over 2000 hours into the game, the rumors of it being "bad at launch", or complaints of people saying "fatshark isn't fixing anything" have all been greatly exaggerated. These largely come from people who either played the game once, and never touched it again but still continued to post on social media about it, or from people who had never played the game at all and were just jumping blindly onto a hate bandwagon. The game had problems on release, yes. It was missing features, and there were problems with certain graphics cards that made the experience of trying to play the game tedious. But the actual gameplay, getting into a map and actually playing the game, has always been a (mostly, looking at you Pox Hounds) polished experience. But the worst of the problems got fixed fairly quickly, missing features were added and refined, and we even got an entire overhaul of the classes that added a whole new layer of player agency in sculpting their characters to fit their preferred playstyle. I love this game, and I can understand player frustrations up to a certain point. But the blind hate of this game has gone on far too long.
    Personal rant aside, I like this review. I think you had some good insights for people looking to get into the game. The game is simple on its surface, but there is a lot of complexity to it. Don't rush through the difficulties, learn where you are comfortable. Rely on your melee.
    On your reload speed gripe, ranged weapons in this game use staged reloads, just like Left 4 Dead. So you can swap to your melee to defend yourself halfway through a reload, then when you swap back, you'll continue the reload from the stage where you left off.

      To me, launch would have been acceptable if vermintide 2 never existed. The fact that it took 2 years to get it up to speed when Vemintide 2 was a gem since 2020 was unacceptable. However, I feel it has finally surpassed its predecessor.

    • @Zman14888
      @Zman14888 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @alexsitaras6508 Uh... VT2 released in 2018, and was a mess on release also. Enemies clipping through players and trapping them in place while being unhittable themself, animations not working properly so you'd take hits without enemies actually visually attacking, more than half of the player talents not working, issues with connecting to other players, daily missions and customization having to be postponed. The only advantage I'd give VT2's launch over Darktides was having almost twice as many missions. But, just like Darktide, it was still a fine game even with its problems, and Fatshark cleaned it up.

      Been playing since release, and my opinion is that the core gameplay loop has always been great and the music & sound effects absolutely amazing, but the itemization was absolutely garbage. The Unlocked and Loaded update finally put itemization into a decent place, thanks to Fatshark caving on casino itemization where the dominant factor on whether you get a usable weapon was luck.

    This game is currently available on the November Humble Choice, so that's a good way to get it on the cheap!
    I also have a funny story, that I spent many, many hours on the Tier 3 difficulty, too scared to move up to 4 and beyond. Until, on the same day, I wound up getting the achievements for "Beat 15 T3 missions in a row without being downed" as well as the "Beat a T3 or higher mission without taking melee damage."

      To over come your trauma, you must first have trauma. I remember having the same fear ages ago. The jump from 3 to 4 does feel pretty big. One of the things I love about the game is the fear factor and how it tries to unnerve you. Few games use audio, visual, and game play as well as they do to that end.

  • @ThatLemonGuy
    @ThatLemonGuy หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    On the reloading thing the game wants you to dodge more and take advantage of the staged reloads mechanic.
    You can time a few dodges while you get a reload off. In fact you should be dodging pretty much everything and if you’re not dodging you’re blocking or staggering.
    The staged reloads also mean you can get part of a reload off, swap to your melee weapon and when you swap back the reload carries on from its last step.
    There’s sound queues when an enemy that’s behind you is about to hit you. Letting you know when you should dodge or block. Blocking also works 360. It’s not explained anywhere in the game but is useful to know.
    But yeah I didn’t see you block once and you didn’t dodge away from things behind you. Resulting in you taking a lot of hits in the back.

    Consider an Infantry or Braced Autogun or Recon Lasgun if you want something that doesn't feel slow. The reloads can be pretty quick when you're not using a tube-fed gun as well.

  • @Micky96
    @Micky96 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The crazy shaking aim punch you have to deal with is due to suppression. Gunners (and reapers) firing over your head isn't cosmetic. They completely fuck your aim. Either you have to kill them before they can open up or take one of the ways to get suppression immunity (left hand side on the vet tree has a perk for it).
    Also, unfortunately infantry lasguns (the ones with a red dot) have been powercrept from release and are now thoroughly meh. They can still do work (just played with mine tonight in some Auric Shock Troop Gauntlet nonsense), but their role is better fulfilled by other options (Infantry Autogun is my favorite and won't get you kicked for playing the game for everyone else).
    Speaking of guns that play the game for everyone, if you want to play a gun that rarely reloads pull out the Plasma Gun. It only has 1 spare mag, and it one shots everything in a line (or will once fully charged and with a little build crafting) and has Cleave: Fuck You (the actual cleave stat is 100 which means it can punch through IIRC 4 Crushers). Just, ah, don't be surprised if you meet one of Darktide's basement dwellers while using it.

  • @weirdferretthing
    @weirdferretthing หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Played on and off since beta, nearly 600 hrs in, here are my top 3 tips (that actually teach you helpful things besides 'git gud')
    1. Coherency toughness regen is a meme and you should spend your talent points on just about anything else. It gets disabled if you go into melee (as in, the moment any enemy is considered 'in melee' with you) and is slow as shit even with the entire team bunched up and a bunch of buffs to it. Same goes for toughness regen speed on curios, since it only buffs coherency regen. Spending a perk point to make your aura bigger is fine, but you could probably still spend that point better elsewhere.
    2. 99% of the time, Mobility, Collateral and Defense are acceptable dump stats for weapons. 60% on those will still get you good enough stuff from them, and getting 80% in everything else will better help you meet breakpoints. Remember to inspect your weapons and hover over their stats to get a breakdown of what they mean. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS, and you can build around them fine if you want, but generally speaking, those three stats can safely be dumped in favor of the rest of the weapon stats. As an addendum to weapon stats; +25% to Flak Armor and Maniacs is, generally, fine for most weapon perks. Most armor in the game is Flak, and Maniacs (Ragers) are crazy dangerous especially at higher levels where they can and will show up in huge packs.
    3. Experiment for yourself. Between the talent tree and itemization reworks, it's never been easier to buildcraft, tweak, and get good gear. I don't recommend looking up other people's builds. Not that you can't, just that you shouldn't. Discover your playstyle, fiddle around with different talents, abilities, blessings. Try out weird shit, try out support builds or specialize in countering a specific threat like enemy ranged or Monstrosities (minibosses), try out gimmicky bullshit. You're playing a video game to HAVE FUN. So long as you aren't doing memelord crap in Auric Damnation, most other players won't care too much what you do, so try stuff out!
    BONUS: Some quality-of-life mods are not a bad idea if you're willing to deal with all that. Nexus/Vortex works well with Darktide and there are guides on how to mod the game out there. Fatshark absolutely sanctions mods so long as they aren't cheats. I recommend Enhanced Descriptions (which can help clear up any vagueness in things like talent descriptions and breakdown how they really work and what they interact with), and Inventory Stats (displays a bunch of your current total stats in the inventory screen), just as generally very helpful information to have.

If you want to play a guy who mainly shoots everything this is the build for you. The Recon Lasgun when speced out has 180 Laser rounds in the mag with over 1k in reserves. With a proper build you will have an AR for hoards that never has to reload due to getting ammo back in the mag from any Crits and can kill any boss in the game in less than 10 seconds with the Combat Blade Speced out with Bleed Blessings.

    Some notes on your gameplay.
    Blocking protects from all directions, it is just more effeicent to be facing your enemy.
    Toughness is not a sheild. The precentage missing of your toughness goes right to your health, so, if you're at 90/100 toughness, that's 90% damage to your toughness, and 10% damage to your health, Ditto if you're at 180/200 toughness.
    Some tidbits on weapons.
    The Bolter is a Bolter (Duh), but unlike the Tyranids of Space Marine 2, whom have evolved to be more resistant to bolter ammunition. The cultists of this hive are not as durable. This weapon will rip through bossess and hordes alike. Do keep in mind that it's reload and equipping animation is rather sluggish.
    The Plasmagun can turn enemies of the Imperium into Soup. Do note that its Plasmagun is NOT like the new Pirmaris models, and will kill you if you overheat it. It's reload and equip is also sluggish.

    Also, fish sauce isn't purely an eastern phenomenon. The ancient romans did it with Garum, and the British did it with Worcheshtire sauce. Heck, even cheese is the same principal. The purpose to age food is to draw out "umami" or savoriness of food, but it unfortunately also adds to the scent.

    Maybe because it’s “Costal” Asia? And I think Roman also do that with their own version of fish sauce. I guess it because it adds different kind of flavor you can’t get from something like salt or whatever

      The reasoning is umami flavor, but it can be provided without the aftertaste of old salmon. Mongolian food does that very well.

    Honestly when I played Space Marine 2, one nagging thought kept coming back: this is good, but Darktide's combat and rpg mechanics are deeper. And that really hindered me from enjoying that game fully. Even though intellectually I understood all of SM2's strengths, emotionally it didnt land for me. When the recent Darktide update went live, i tried it and it was just as good as i left it. Not enough for me to go back to it fully. But enough to remember why i loved it to begin with.

    I've been playing a long while, though not all the way since launch. I not only think it's a better *video game* than Space Marine 2, at current time, but also a better introduction and representation of the Warhammer universe. SM2 has the advantage that it's an advertisement goldmine, but beyond that, I don't think it holds up well enough on either front, compared to Darktide.
    It really is a shame, as I think there are many quality games in the Warhammer universe that showcase exactly what the setting is *far* more effectively, but suffer from the fact that they will inevitably receive less funding in the development, advertisements, or (most likely) both. This is purely down to the fact that the majority of the universe is simply less ad-friendly than "blue space man kills bugs", because that is visually iconic, and pea-brain simple to explain to someone. The poster children are given to the large companies, while more niche elements are pawned off to different studios.
    Something like Darktide or Rogue Trader get pushed out before they're ready, with little ad space outside of the community, and they ultimately take several months, to even a couple years, to really solidify and find their footing. There some edge breakout cases -- like how the Mechanicus intro was popularized to hell and back -- as well as the cult classics from ye olden days (like the DoW series). However, the former really doesn't lend itself to any massive boost in longevity or retention (just look at how community-centric the reception to Mechanicus 2 was), and the latter really did peter off over time -- with the games' *titles* being somewhat known in wider spaces (Dawn of War, Battlefleet Gothic, etc), but the actual games and their connection to the wider setting being very much obscured to an outsider, due to the relatively more niche genres, and the time that has passed.
    It's a sad, self fulfilling prophecy that Space Marines are the only real marketable portion of the franchise that GW keeps hammering home, resulting in anything not directly related to them getting shafted on the necessary funding and attention. It flattens out the setting, purely for the sake of fitting into a neat little ad space.

    It may be good now, but i think its important to never stop giving FS shit about that release. Whether or not the game is good now, it is completely unacceptable to release a half baked over monetized mess, and just forget and forgive because they delivered after 2 years of post release work. Comebacks like cyberpunk, fallout 76, and no mans sky are good to see, but they shouldn't be a justification for normalizing the release of unfinished games.
    Doom and gloom aside, i share a lot of your thoughts, and since release, the game has been a mainstay in my library. I'll probably keep playing for several years so long as updates remain somewhat consistent

    Let me preface by saying I’m a fan of your channel, but I gotta roast you a bit on your food takes.
    The best fried rice you’ve ever eaten had fish sauce, sambal, or shrimp paste, in it. I guarantee it because those are sources of umami flavor, which is what people like about a lot of Asian cuisine. You just didn’t know it because nobody told you. That’s what every good Asian restaurant does to get people with dainty sensibilities to come back. They’ll just say it has msg in it, which is true.
    Without thousand island dressing, you don’t have a Reuben, full stop. That’s like ordering an old fashioned and telling the bartender to hold the bitters. That’s just whisky and sugar. Next, you’re going to say you ask them to remove the sauerkraut, put it on white bread, and make sure they cut the crust off, too.
    My suggestion is to stick with Kraft mac & cheese and chicken nuggets. Then you won’t have to worry about your food having too much flavor.

    • @JebblesJunior
      @JebblesJunior  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Having lived somewhere with a very high Hmong population for the better portion of my life, no. If you have functioning taste buds that can define flavors, you get hammered by it.
      As for the Reuben, it was just the most familiar example I could recall. Yes, the correct answer is avoid it because it's mid anyway.

      Its possible to play this singleplayer if you want to. its a mod sure but you CAN do it if you want. kind of a strange thing to count as a negative though imo like no one ever seems to complain that other multiplayer games are multiplayer games but hey maybe I'm missing something. Much like Left 4 dead is a 4 player co op game this is a 4 player co op game so single player with 3 bots is fine if you really don't like other people. Try it I bet you work out why its a co op game by the time you've managed even 1 mission on Damnation

    “You’re not a space marine…” ironically I feel like the Darktide Rejects would wipe the Space Marine 2 co-op space marines using the individual game’s balance. SM2 I feel so weak and defenseless. Darktide I doubly feel strong and capable. The difficulty and player expression of SM2 feels terrible and uninteresting imo
    The reloading issue I get, they tried to balance guns so that they’re not your constant default for every scenario even if you’re playing a ranged focused build like veteran excels at. Fatshark’s focus since Vermintide and Vermintide 2, and apparently their older titles too, is the melee combat. And that’s what makes the -Tide games so unique and appealing. If you can get over the jump and enjoy the melee there’s a lot here. For the reload issue - the plasma gun (albeit is OP) is good to solve this if you can manage the overheat. A general tip is making sure you’re reloading during lul time, and if you really *need* to shoot make sure you are using your defensive tools to give yourself space to reload mid horde. Pushing, grenades, abilities that stun, dodging while reloading are all important. Learning to play around reload speeds and weapon draw-out time is a very important skill at higher difficulties. Vet specifically has a lot of reload speed options. Weapon specialist in particular has a modifier that loads ammo into your weapon from your reserve when you swap from melee to ranged (after melee kill). This is very useful on weapons like revolvers and shotguns that reload individual rounds but has its uses elsewhere too. Tbh shotguns are lacking in relevance lately but that’s just as far as I’ve seen. You can certainly make them work if you like them, and they are cool. Same with anything in the game. You can make anything work and feel good.
    Glad to see Darktide getting some revisitation and recognition. It had a really rough start and slow going couple years of updates but its core is amazing. Imo it’s the best to do the pve coop horde genre so far. Can’t wait for more content for this one
