iirc the game was actually made by KID, who I don't think were ever part of Taito and I'm sure that this is one of the games where they hid their logo in it. This game is alright, but I did find it to be quite frustrating in places (some areas have tight spaces which often make it hard to avoid shots) and KID did go on to make a way better shooter a couple of years later which I'm looking forward to seeing here 😉
I haven't played it yet myself, but it definitely feels like like a KID title, judging by the constant use of purple in their palettes (Isolated Warrior, G.I. Joe, Low-G-Man).
The different weapon toggles, only losing current weapon power on death, and that top-down stage makes me think of Thunderforce II. I wonder if that was an inspiration for this.
A while ago I set up a few playlists for your channel: famidaily kusoge, famidaily baseball, and famidaily the ¥10,000 club. I would link them here, if not for youtube marks links as spam (except when they are spam).
Taxan had the same parental company as Naxat Soft who developed games for the Pc-engine including some of Technōs games like Double Dragon 2 and Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (river City Ransom). And I’m not sure but maybe they were behind the x68k ports of the Kunio games too. Despise the obvious name reference, I ignore if they were the same team as Taxan or not.
I agree, this is a hidden gem that shooter fans should check out.

I've seen development of this game credited to KID on GDRI.

Thank you. To celebrate your 10,000 yen club list. I posted a group photo of some upcoming members.
Love this one too
It's interesting and unusual how the US got this game before Japan. Have definitely heard this game is good.
speaking of your channel name, how'd you land on RndStranger?
I know I'd heard of this one back in the day but never got around to it... seems like a decent shootemup! one to be sure I'll be on the lookout for.

Why was it ported to the Gameboy *several times* ? That seems a bit odd.
