Thanks for the video Nick. I recently bought the same model outboard (year 2000) in similar condition for my Farr 5000. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet other than in the tank. Outboard the came with the boat was a Johnson 4hp in great condition but I was worried about pushing in to strong winds. Thanks for showing the carby pull down. Kev

Thanks for the comment, these are a really good outboards, same as the Mercury 6 and 8 hp just a different badge and they were and still are the back bone of a lot of hire boat fleets.
Just bad luck for me which I have hopefully fixed.
I have just updated the description to include a link to another sailing channel that does a really great explanation on stripping one of these carbs, its off a Yamaha 8hp but it is the exact same carb. All the best with your purchase.
When I do a followup once out of COVID I will also include a review on a little Hour Meter / Tacho that I have just bought ( for bit of a lark) and my new water ear muffs for running the motor out of a tank. My old ones were unless but these work really well, they were delivered today and I have just tried them out.

@@wilsnich02 There is also a little hose attachment that fits in the "Wash" socket on the leg. Apologies if I'm telling you something you already know. Most people lose them.. I don't have one :(

Enjoyed the video. Just a thought…… if you are needing to do that sort of repair job, always start downstream. Flush the tank and replace everything between the tank and motor first. Otherwise you have possibly just introduced more contamination into your newly rebuild carburettor.

You are spot on, I initially didn’t realise that my relatively new fuel line was dissolving causing the crud in my fuel but there was also crud in the also relatively new fuel tank. Should have started at the source first. I will be doing another video very soon, just received my cheapie Chinesey $45 carb, going to fit up this weekend and test

With the current lockdown issues it may be worth treating the fuel with fuel stabiliser. It’s sold at Bunnings or any mower shop. Keeps the fuel fresh for up to 3 years. Fuel starts to deteriorate after about 30 days in storage which results in the engine getting harder to start / some running issues. I am a small engine technician by trade and have just purchased a Cole 23, so loving your videos!
