I commend this interviewer. She let Ms. Klein tell her story with few questions or interruptions. This is the 112th interview I have watched and I have observed that many of these survivors just need to let their story come out.

@Lisa Herrling - I completely agree with you!! I have watched close to 50 of them so far and some interviewers sound like they are reading their script, BUT are not listening to the answers at all! They ask a question right after the Survivor answers it. I find this disrespectful.

I completely agree! I also have watched over 100 of them and always read the comments before I start one, because I cannot stand interviewers that are rude and don’t let the poor survivor tell his or her story!!!

I always read the comments now before I start the interviews. The people who interview often ruin the survivors stories by being obnoxious! Because you said that Miss Klein could tell her story, I am getting ready to listen. Thank you for your comment. I may come in again after I have listened.

I just hate it when the interviewer speaks over their interviewee, I have also noticed several who do not listen to these folks. They ask the same questions the elder just answered. It’s so disrespectful to listen with the intent to respond rather than actually hearing. I wonder how many stories would have been enriched by an interviewer who had some people skills.

You can see the pain, & can tell that Mrs. Klein is reliving the horrors, as she speaks. Thankful for her painful testimony. This history must never be forgotten. It is just as important today.

Twice now, watching this testimony with awe, from such a deep and rare individual, and her impact grows rather than lessens. Amazing it is, to hear and to see her, talking from Brooklyn at the start of 1998. Fresh like a wondrous wildflower. Amazing even moreso since Mrs Birnbaum decided to be interviewed as a rare decision for her, a deliberative one. Well, she gives her whole world, vividly, intensely.
The very second when, initially, she said that she would prefer not to offer up her birthdate, she had me right with her, fluffing up the pillows, loving her way of contending, feeling an immediate alliance with her. The spirit unbroken, just as her mother and father assured her that she was always whole, always. Incredible.

She doesn't remember a lot of things probably as a self-defense mechanism, my heart is breaking for her and all the hardship that she had to endure

trauma can have that effect, esp. when there are decades in between. and it does matter, if one had spoken about these things earlier with a confidant. and when remembered things had be re-assured by fact findings somewhere else. then the memory gets strengthen. e.g. people who went back, right after the war, to see the house or spoke to other returning survivors, have a better memory about things, before the war and right after. and another difference is, that people who had told their story in schools for some time. several times, they are much more fluent and oftem more without too much emotional outburst or sometimes non at all before the camera. the traume part I know from trauma therapy theory. the other hints, I got from observing what I had seen till now either on this USC page, or from German speaking survivers (and perpetrator). I live in Vienna. so that was my first source. This USC page I looked up only a few month ago. I didn't know, they uploaded everything on youtube as well. very grateful they did

She talks about a beautiful girl in the interview and the the SS guard in the interview and it’s so interesting that there is a documentary about them called Love it was not. Do check it, it’s so very interesting.
