@@TheNatashaDebbieShow i wonder if you can see curly wurlys being made 🍫
It's been around 20-21 years since I went. Awesome.
Has anyone informed Debbie that Cadbury do a whole range of ice creams??
3:36 In the old Cadbury's TV ads, the sexy rabbit character was voiced by Miriam Margolyes.
Also voted sexiest female on tv by men in ireland lmao
Cadbury`s Caramel . Hey Mr Beaver why you Beavering around ?
th-cam.com/video/EjQ5Yw72xtA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iePo7hGnNlyftvya
@ the first ad was the hey mr bee why are you buzzing around, they were made to tone down the sexy in later ads lmao
@@jessgunn6639 poor woman! lol
They built a model village called Bournville for the workers to live, and the Cadbury family are Quakers so all sales of alcohol were banned in the village, to this day it's still a dry village.
And Hershey Pen is a copy
@@smallsmalls3889 as with every great British idea, the Americans copy it, just look at the US Marines…….
(Runs and hides in a dark corner giggling and waiting for the comments to start….. 😂)
When it was first imported into Europe it was a gritty and not at all sweet drink. It was quite a while before we had chocolate like we know now.
@ I drink South American style hot chocolate, it's lovely, but I don't know when the 100% Cacao chocolate it's made with was first invented, maybe it was after it came to Europe? But that makes a very thick but smooth hot chocolate which is made with water not milk, first time I ever had it was in a coffee shop in Brighton and they had a disclaimer saying it was nothing like normal hot chocolate
A very long time ago, pre second world war my grandfather wrote off to Cadburys asking if they could make a visit to the factory. Cadbury's agreed and my grandfather got together family and friends (mostly from church) and a visit was arranged for a Sunday.
They were shown all round the factory and afterwards Cadbury had laid on a tea for them and there was plenty of it, it was all Cadbury products. Cadbury also make cakes biscuits and drinks. All this was free, they only had to get there.
My mum told me all this and that Cadbury had a plan to stop pilfering by telling the staff on the production line that they could eat as much chocolate as they liked. After 2 - 3 days of stuffing yourself with chocolate you went off the idea a bit. Heath and safety put all that to a stop, no eating on the shop floor anymore.
Along with Rowntree's and Fry's, Cadbury's were companies founded by Quakers.
Chocolate was seen as an innocent pleasure.
Chocolate was originally a drink and not eaten as a solid. I think it was Frys Chocolate that produced the first Chocolate bar. ❤❤
2:35 - There is a "chocolate river" that runs past the factory. It's more commonly known as a muddy canal though. 😂
Lol love this
Just to say that the Gorilla on the drums wasn’t random, in one of the advertisements , they played Phil Collins ‘ I can feel it in the air tonight’ but instead of Phil on the drums they had a Gorilla, Well done Cadbury! , ( great advert if you’re old enough to remember it ! ), love Sean. ( The guy who lives on a Narrowboat in Bradford on Avon ).
See the Ad with the Cadbury's Gorilla, you'll love it. Its on TH-cam
This is the one with Phil Collins drumbeat on it , well worth a watch .
th-cam.com/video/NHtEyDrD4oA/w-d-xo.html
@@davidtemple5934 I thought it was actually Phil Collins and the gorilla was cgi'd in.
Years ago I took my children from Scotland to South Wales on holiday. I left in the early hours and when we got to Birmingham I pretended to get lost. They had no idea they were going to Cadbury World until we rolled up in the car park. It was the best way to break up a journey ever. They are grown up now and it still comes up as a highlight of their childhood. It seems to have got even better since then, except we got way more free chocolateback then!
13:35 - the gorilla tv ad for Cadbury had him play the drums to Phil Collins, probably one of their most memorable ads 😂
I didn't think Debbie would love anywhere more than the Pooh Museum, but then she saw cadbury's world 😂
The Cabury's Caramel rabbit was awesome lol
What was good about many of the big sweet and chocolate manufacturers in Britain was many were set up by Quakers who were decades ahead of other employers on how they treated their employees
First of all: don't worry about parking. I visited when I lived in Birmingham for a short while a few years ago. The Bournville train station is right next to the factory and only ~13 minutes ride from central Birmingham. The moment you get off the train, you can smell the chocolate - it is everywhere! I didn't visit Cadbury's World, but had access to the factory shop anyway.
The story of Cadbury's and Bournville (the village they built for their workers) is really worth researching. Cadbury's was one of a number of Quaker owned companies who treated their workers much better than most ordinary employers and showed that it was possible to run a large company and look after your workers well.
Fun fact: The sexy rabbit was the Cadbury Caramel Bunny, and in the 1980s we got adverts (and this is a few years before Jessica in 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit', by the way... and who was also animated in the UK for the film) where the character enticed various anthropomorphised animals, who were otherwise busy going about their daily routines, by suggesting that they 'relax' with a Caramel bar and 'take things easy'.
She was voiced by the now National Treasure that is Miriam Margoyles, but she did it, rather interestingly, with (an albeit mild) west country accent. I only really remember the 'Mr Beaver' one, personally, although I think that was actually the first one. #GettingOld
I think they would Love Miriam Margolyes and her sense of humour!! She is a howl! 🤣🙌🏼
@@mzundastud07 - Agreed. And I think it's inevitable that a video of hers will pop up on their channel one day. All reactors tend to find her eventually!
To say I only live a few miles away I haven’t been in a few years, looks like it’s been updated since I went so that’s good. I especially like the historical side of how Cadburys was born and how Cadbury world is still near/part of the village (Bourneville) where Mr Cadbury built the town for his workers, apparently a great place to live and work back then. Not sure if the place is still a working factory, I doubt it. The place is owned by Mondelez now which broke away from its original buyer Craft foods. They used to sell all sorts of things in the gift shop, t shirts, hoodies, caps, key chains etc.. as well as chocolate products. You could get exclusive stuff as well as yesteryear no longer made stuff. Cadburys as a group swallowed up a lot of other brands over the years including Fry’s, Bassett, Rowntrees, Schweppes, Green & Blacks, some of the products they made are still made under cadburys others still under the original brand. The Rabbit is significant, she was a character used in advertising to market Cadburys Caramel bar, she was a bit saucy but it was the 80’s no woke bullshit back then. The gorilla is also from advertising from the 80’s he advertised Dairy milk and was a bit abstract, both adverts can be found on TH-cam if you look them up. If you visit here you can do the Black Country Museum and Ironbridge too they’re not far away. If you like shopping there’s Merry Hill or Birminghams Bullring & Grand Central malls but they don’t really stack up to places in the US or at least those in the big cities.
It looks like it's changed since I went there as a kid in the early 90s. I have 3 abiding memories of it:
1) You got to take some unsweetened chocolate - it's awful!
2) A lot more social history about Bournville, as the whole town was built for the workers by the Quaker owners
3) There were lots of really cool small bubble cars around.
I have a picture of my eldest son with the bubble car ( Cadbury cream egg one)
Yes!!! The bubble cars!!! 😮
It wasn't too short. It was 'leave them wanting more'. That's a good thing.
The big three chocolate makers Cadbury, Rowntree and fry were all Quakers.
I agree. Debbie cornered the adorable vibe here. Too cute.
One thing to be aware of, as not sure what month they were in here on the video, and also to bear in mind for most attractions. When they say go through the week and not at a weekend. Here in the UK we have Six week summer holidays for schools, not sure if that is a thing in America, but something to bear in mind. Starting in late July and ending in early September kids are off school for six weeks and obviously attractions fill up in the week too, not just the weekend. It doesn't tend to be as busy as a weekend as parents still need to work, but does get busier than usual.
I believe the school summer holiday in the US is much longer. The government actually gives our kids one of the shortest breaks of all the Western countries. In the Republic of Ireland and most countries across Europe, for instance, kids get around 12 weeks off in the summer. Kids in private or public schools here usually get 12 weeks too, but obviously not the poor blighters in state schools.
Live the other side of the hill, in south Birmingham, have done all my life, can if the wind is blowing the right way smell the chocolate being made!!
Bournville is, as well as the factory well worth a walk around its self!
No two houses, built by the Cadbury family for there workers, are a like!
Yonks ago, my London school took a trip to what was then called Cadbury's Bournville. For we 30+ 8-12 yr old boys in 1960, still accustomed to fairly meagre rations at school, it was a real experience. We sampled everything, were each sent back to school with a tin full of various chocs, and were all sick on the five-hour charabanc trip back to Westminster. The smell of chocolate lingered on our uniforms for days. We even groaned when offered steamed chocolate pudding at dinner the next evening.🤢😂
You are so right. That video length was great and just right.
I took my Wife and her Mother there many years ago....one thing we noticed when stepping out of the car, was that the actual air smelt of Chocolate....also, the bars of choc' you buy in the shop will be the freshest you've ever tasted....Bournville village is also worth a visit
My first job, years ago, once a week we had to go and pick up an old, reel to reel data tape. When we parked up, I'd get out of the car and just smell the chocolate for about 5 minutes,
My personal favourite Cadbury product is probably Cadbury caramel, it's hard go wrong with that. Cadbury Oreo has become a close second for me though. They do a Cadbury Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations bar with jelly beans and popping candy. That's delicious too, as I like the different textures
My wife and I went to Cadbury World almost 40 years ago and it was a well presented straightforward factory type tour. There was a Mayan section and we could taste some pure liquid Cacao (unsweetened as well). We got free samples and learned a lot. There were no rides or interactive cinemas then, but we had a fantastic day out. We have also been fotunate enough to visit Cadbury World in Dunedin in New Zealand (sadly not there anymore). They had a huge silo that you entered near the top and as you walked down you spiralled round a chocolate waterfall. It was amazing.
I think it's:
Senior citizens 60+
Adults 16-59
and then children 4-15 and children under 4 as it says
my hubby worked at cadburys for a spell in his younger yrs, cadbury world was an extension of cadburys, he took great pride when taking me there & again with our son when he younger, was a really nice day out, they seem to have built it out a bit more from when we last went several yrs ago, even back then you got free chocolate, im glad they still do that 😍
I lived in Bourneville for a year in 1974-5, very near the Cadbury factory, and on Tuesdays, the whole place smelt of strawberry flavouring as they were making `Pink Panther bars....Bourneville is about a 20 minute bus ride into the centre of Birmingham. While I was there, the IRA bombed the pub in the city centre, it was a huge incident and it went off as I was on my way home from work.
Hiya girls Richard the london cabbie here. Your videos are fantastic and very addictive. All the best girls from sunny England x
Hi. Birmingham UK here. This is my home turf. Cadbury World is a good day out. If you make it over here be sure to visit there. Stay calm and drink chocolate.
Went here yearly as a child with my grandparents. I still have a set of chucklebean mugs, about 39 years old 😂. The park outside used to be like big chocolate bar wrappers but looks like that’s changed. It’s definitely worth a visit in my opinion, even just for history behind Cadbury 😊
I've still got a mug with a Victorian advert on it from when my parents visited thirty+ years ago.
Was born in the Midlands so as a 90'd kid we went there alot. Every Mother's Day or Easter there were extra treats. As you step off the train at Bournville, it smelt like chocolate. Magical!
I agree with Debbie you can never have too much chocolate!
I see old "Bertie Bassett" doing his dance, the advert used to be a street scene and everyone had gone Bertie through eating too many Liquorice Allsorts and the little ditty was "Good Old Bertie Bassett Britain's Favourite Asset" they dont do adds like that anymore.😂
We live within sniffing distance of the Bournville factory & Cadbury World. My daughter worked there for a long time & the staff try hard to make visitors really welcome. It’s being refurbished to improve the visitor experience but I always liked the history (like the Victorian shopping street) and yes, you get plenty of samples including warm melted dairy milk chocolate. It’s a good 3-4 hours visit
Cadbury world is close to where I live, have been there love it. My mom worked at Cadburys for many years x
Visited the Cadbury factory in Tasmania....! They gave us samples of Cadbury Elves, a great combination of chocolate and Pop Rocks. Wish I had some now!
I´m german and i love Cadbury, it remembers me on my grandfather, cause every friday i got a half bar of Cadbury and loved it ( no i wasn`t fat ,cause we played outside the whole day, cause there was no computer, no gameboy, only a garden and the neighbor kids ) in the end of the 60`s, early 70`s.
Kraft now own Cadbury, first thing they did was change the recipe too make it cheaper ,so now our Cadbury is nearer too yours ,galaxy anybody
In my humbleopinion i've always thought galaxy chocolate to be far superior to Cadbury chocolate.
Been a long time since I took the tour, lots has changed, awesome experience
Also look at Bournville Village, an idyllic village built by the Cadbury family.
Bournville, the area in which cadbury World is situated, was built for the employees of the original cadbury factory in believe they were quakers
The same happened with a few British companies. Rowntrees and Sunlight Soap spring to mind. And to a degree, Tiptree, who's farm helped expand the village
They were quakers and the sale of alcohol is restricted in the area. I think this might have been recently lifted though. Beautiful area
I went on the tour with my school back in the 90s, it was fantastic going through the actual factory floor where all the magic is made
When I was in primary school(aged 8 or 9? - in 1966?) Cadbury came to the school and presented a film on the story of Chocolate, its history and the journey from the cacao fruit to a bar of Dairy Milk. They then had a competition where we had to write an essay about the film. I came second and got a week's worth of chocolate bars(ie 7 different bars). The winner got a month's supply plus their entry went into a national contest with a visit to Birmingham for the final judging and the ultimate prize winner got a trip to Africa. I've no idea who eventually won but I was quite happy with my 7 bars! 🙂
This is a women's delight. This is why you both are so good.
Last time I went there with my daughter and we each bought “A Yard of Chocolate” - it takes a while to eat a three-foot long bar of chocolate!
I’ve been to Cadbury world. It’s 100% we’ll worth a visit. They give you free chocolate bars and samples as you go round too!
Also, the gorilla on the drums was from a very iconic tv advert Cadbury’s had.
The Gorilla was part of a Cadburys advertisement and it plays the drums intro to the Phil Collins song in the air tonight.
Roald Dahl’s book Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, was actually inspired by Cadbury, when Roald and all his fellow pupils received samples of Cadbury’s new chocolates sent to their school to see how much of a success they’d be with other children.
I live in the West Midlands area of the UK and easy travelling distance to Cadbury World and always wanted to take my children to visit when they were younger but didn’t. Firstly as mentioned in the video, the queues, they are massive and at peek times you really have to book or risk not getting in. Secondly, compared to other attractions within the West Midlands it’s not as good value for money and as said in the video, it’s an afternoon trip rather than a day out. I can see the appeal of it, but as someone who has lived in the area for over 50 years, this is why I’ve never been 😊
As a local to the area I can tell you that I have only once visited Cadbury World. This is a chocolate theme park. Cadbury's used to do factory tours but that got so much that they set up Cadbury World to avoid blocking up the factory. Even the Bournville railway station is painted in Cadbury purple. No river of chocolate but there is a canal running past the factory. Everyone was upset by the hostile takeover by Kraft. Over the years I have met 4 members of the Cadbury factory.
Please can you do some more comedy reactions ? I LOVED it when you watched would I lie to you ❤😂
My mother inlaw worked for cadburys for a long time until she retired. Before Cadbury world existed they used to do open days for families of workers to visit the factory. We got to tour the factory and there was so much free chocolate to eat as we walked round it was amazing and delicious. Of course I tried it all and I left feeling very very sick. That was over 35 years ago and I haven’t really wanted to eat chocolate since. I have been to Cadbury world it self but it’s just not the same. There is a discount shop there too if you visit where you can get some bargains.
My kids and I loved going to Cadbury World every summer holiday. The train station is painted in Cadbury purple and it is parallel to the canal (chocolate used to be transported on canal narrowboats) and is in very easy walking distance, and you can smell the chocolate before you get there! Well worth the visit.
I think i can see you lovely ladies upping sticks and moving over to the UK 😊
Chocolate.. Debbie must be in heaven..lol Debbies ramble at the end reminded me of the sequence i Forest Gump when Bubba talks about the different types of shrimp.. beautiful to witness
The gorilla is because its one of the UK Cadburys iconic commercials, The gorilla is used for the drum part of Phil Collins Song (in the air tonight) in the commercial
th-cam.com/video/TnzFRV1LwIo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LiNUQQQwF55Xw31k
Cadbury was owned for many years by the Cadbury family. They were ahead of their time in social reforms and welfare of the workers. They provided excellent housing and recreational facilities.
Went to cadbury world in 1996 with my eldest son who was a toddler at the time. You got free chocolate
The canal is near the factory, at the time I lived on a narrow boat and always had ooooodles of chocolate!
Love you both !! Genuine and lovely people
I went to Cadburys World last summer. A bit expensive but it was good and my son particularly liked the ride and 4D cinema thing.
Well now you need to watch the Vicar of Dibley… I think you might enjoy that
The drumming gorilla 13:33 was such an iconic advert
Best time to visit is November/ December. Go to Cadbury world early afternoon and then go to Birmingham city centre to visit the biggest German Christmas Market in the UK.
I'd love to see a video of the your decision making process when you FINALLY have to choose where you are (and aren't) going to visit on your first UK trip. I would love to see you trying to narrow it down! : )
Cool video! It’s a while since I’ve been I think Cadbury owned it when I went. You could see the machines through glass working, you could make your own chocolate pot with different toppings and they had the ride. But I don’t remember getting free chocolate. 😡 They had the chocolate shop at the end and they did serve Cadbury ice cream outside! It’s worth a visit!
I used to live in Birmingham and a lot of my family used to work at Cadbury, the gorilla on the drums was an advertisement for Cadbury, imitating Phil Colin's in air tonight.... brilliant 🤣
I’m heading up to Cadbury just before Easter, members of my family used to work in the factory in various departments. I went a few times as a child but this will be my first time back as an adult. I believe ticket price is £24 ish now but that could be because it’s school holidays and close to Easter, if you didn’t want to drive you can get the train from the city centre (Birmingham New Street) to Bournville and then walking across about 10-15 mins from train station to factory.
I would love to go and visit there, Buttons are my favourite from Cadbury's 😋😋😋
Giant Buttons kept in the fridge! 🤤
I went to Cadbury world once in 1992. I really enjoyed it, but then I was 8 years old! Suffice to say, it's changed quite a lot since then.
If you want to find out about Bournville, one of the first examples of a "Model Garden Village" for the workers, check out the video : "Who lives in a place like this? The Village built on Chocolate | Bournville" from "Through Lucy's Lens". (It's about 14 minutes long).
...and thanks for your videos, I love 'em!
great video ladies,loved debbies reactions!!
Cool! This new subscriber - who now now lives in Oregon - is originally from Birmingham, and Cadbury is close to our hearts. Everyone was upset when they sold out and it's sad the US doesn't get the same Cadbury chocolate that Britain does, even though the original is no longer what it was. If you knew someone who worked at the factory you could get huge bags of broken biscuits (cookies) for an extreme discount. Most were intact really and just a bit ragged - but still delicious. All these years though, I never did visit Cadbury World itself. Bournville (or Bournville Green specifically) is like a little quaint village in the middle of the city that was built by the Cadbury family (Quakers) for its workers. If you ever saw Peaky Blinders, the episode/s featuring the Quaker guy who befriended one of the brother's wives, was set in Bournville. Thanks for checking this out and enjoying it.
I love it, Natasha, when you said I didn’t know what to expect, maybe you walked in and saw a bunch of chocolate bars. Basically, you expected a shop 😂
We've been 4 times and loved it every time. Highly recommend a visit xx
Chocolate you say? Hold my beer. -- Belgium
A senior citizen or pensioner used to be anyone over 60 years old.
But since retirement age has changed most places it is now anyone over 66 years old.
But having said that it can be whatever age a place decides to set it at
You do get free chocolate when arrive. It’s now owned by Merlin attractions so can use a Merlin card if you’ve got one😊
I live a few miles from here, The shop is open to the public so great for limited edition things.
The term "senior citizen" seems to be somewhat flexible 😉 In some places it might refer to anyone (M or F) over 60. In others it would refer to the original retirement ages of 60 (F) and 65 (M) when people would start receiving their state pension. In more recent years those ages have changed, depending on when you were born.
Suffice to say you're both too young for it to apply 🥰
I've been there twice. First was 30 years ago and then again about 18 years ago (both before the company was bought). There were quite a few differences between the visits and it's obvious things have changed a LOT since I went.
If ever you get to go, check out Bournville Village nearby, which was founded by the Cadbury family to house the workers at the factory, and listen out for the carillon 😀
It might be worthwhile you guys getting the Merlin annual pass on your trip. It gets you into Merlin attractions free. Things like Cadbury world, London Dungeons so many things included. Merlin recently took over running of Cadbury World and have started making a lot of Improvements
I went to school 2003. They give you lots of chocolate bars. I hope they still do. It's in Bournville, a model village.
When we were kids, the jingle for Cadbury's Fruit and Nuts went :
" Nuts oh hazel nuts 🎶, umpf !
Cadbury makes them and then cover them in chocolate. 🎶 "
Nothng compares to Fruit and Nuts.
We live 50 mins away its a fab day but it advised to book in advance the bunny i remember was bought in with cadburys caramel ,it altered a lot since we were small but so much fun
Great video, never been there but definitely want to try it but very high risk of buying half the gift shop and come away with a LOT of chocolate 😂
A manager at my old work used to live near there and used to bring loads of chocolate in every time he came into the office
Friend of mine worked at Cadburys for a while - as a chocolate scientist! Then he went to work at a dairy as a milk scientist.
You are both adorable, but Debbie was particularly adorable in this video.
Even the Bourneville train station is painted Cadbury purple.
Loved Cadbury world.. You should definitely go ladies 😘🇬🇧✌️
Recenly moved and now live less than 2 miles from Cadbury World Deffo on the to do list for this summer.
i used to work at the mars factory in slough, they had a big pilfering(stealing) problem. then one bright spark from managment said "you can take what you like with in reason", after a few months of stuffing our faces with chocolate, the pilfering levels dropped significantly, because we where sick of the sight of chocolate.
looks like a lot has changed since i went there on a school trip back in the late 90s. i remember they had some creme egg shaped cars parked out the front as well.
65 + for senior citizens but lots of places regard 60 + as acceptable as senior citizens. Here in Wales asbsoon as you are 60 you get free bus pass for life ,catching buses all over Wales and some areas into England as the bus /road routes to places cross the border and wind back in so you can get off in some English towns, all for free over 60
Charlie and the chocolate factory is based upon the Cadbury factory and their creative department.
