    It'd be neat for one of these videos to go over how to do a quick, clean, snappy (sound-wise) sticks in. 6 years of drumline and we've always just done it as fast as we can without hurting ourselves, and it's always quiet and lame.

    • @Christian-pr6ft
      @Christian-pr6ft 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ABananaPeel you have to move your fingers out of the way. The sound comes from the sticks hitting eachother as they come together.

    I never realized how important it is to get the sticks back up to the original height. I think this is why I keep hitting my sticks/wrists together when I try to do crossovers!

    I happen to be totally blind, so the scrapes from 1-3 are with the right hand doing both strokes, and the 2-4 scrape is a left hand double correct? Correct me if I am wrong.

      With all things music, play it slow and work your way up to it. It will never happen overnight.

  • @francis8104

    So when you take the speed up on your scrapes should you diddle the scrape or keep it all wristed out? (I’m a new tenor player if you couldn’t tell)

    • @TheQuadMethod
      @TheQuadMethod  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should be very similar to how you play diddles on one drum at that particular speed. Typically, people oversqueeze and over work on scrapes. There should always be a wrist element to your rolls but its contribution will decrease as the tempo increases.

    What about when it gets too fast and you have to use the fulcrum rebound

    • @TheQuadMethod
      @TheQuadMethod  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rebound is rebound. Speed is facilitated and built by utilizing the rebound you have. If you want to play faster, you have to let the stick bounce. Many people tend to over squeeze and choke the rebound which is why they have a hard time moving faster

    These are great videos! And for everyone watching these to learn more about quad playing, I would highly recommend buying the book "Quad Logic" by Bill Bachman. It is a great book that starts with the basics such as holding the sticks, playing positions, tuning, reading quad music, etc. From there is goes into every thing you would need to know all the way up to and advanced level with some of Bills quad solos at the end. The book in combination with these videos would be a great way to learn and become a skilled quad player. The book teaches the things shown in the videos and gives some exercises related to topic, and these videos are a good way to see the visual demonstration and explanation of it. Great videos! keep it up!

    What is considered a good double stroke ?

    • @TheQuadMethod

      - Two notes that have the same open/relaxed sound quality, same volume, and are evenly spaced (based on the rhythm)
