@@Bro-cx2jc I think in the Swedish version they also follow that trope, which I honestly did not really understand or like from a story telling perspective. The remake ignores it and somewhat hints at it when she says “she’s not a girl” in the movie but that could also be interpreted as her telling him that she’s a vampire.
The older couple were going to seek them out in Barcelona to ask for the infection, because they were in love but one of them was fatally ill. The woman may have chased Oskar and Eli for years as an unsolved case but she seemed ready to let that go, hence the phrase "Let the old dreams die, we're dreaming new ones." I thought that if they found the younger pair then they could act as new guardians and form a kind of surrogate family. And to those saying that Hakan met Eli when he was a child, that simply did not happen. In the book it is described in detail how Eli recruited him as an adult and what led up to it.

Kronie no worries. merely an inconsequential detail. You should read the book. Its a beautiful story. George Rodriguez Just finished the book! It was great. Wondering if I should buy "Let The Old Dreams Die" next. I definitely believe that this movie ended with Eli having bitten and transformed Oskar, that is the happiest kind of ending for them. It's just what I personally believe. Heck the emotion and everything else this movie did to me, inspired me to write a ghost story (finished it in a few days :P) and I think of one of the characters as Eli. In my story, a ghost comes back to find someone she committed a terrible injustice upon, and she wants to apologize and make things right with her victim. Just read LTODD last night, and wow. What a follow up, from such a different and unexpected angle. I sat up for an hour after thinking about it, and have thought about the story for the better part of today as well. So beautiful, so haunting. ***SPOILERS BELOW*** If JAL were ever to continue this story, a fanfic I had would be a series of killings being investigated by a Spanish policewoman. She tracks the killings to Stefan who is now a vampire. because it came out later, at least the english translation. Also, its not part of LTROI- let the old dreams die is a short story about different people ( the guy on the train who meets oscar and his wife). Only on the last couple of bits of the story it´s revealed that there is a photo taken of oscar and a " black-haried girl" staing behind a crowd of people " looking like predators". they are still children, yet the photo is dated september 2008. If there was one thing I didn't like about the film, it was the fact that they played down Eli's affection for Oskar and implied that she was just using him the whole time. The real horror in the original book isn't the vampire. It's the humanity. The society they lived in took away Oskar and Eli's childhood (and in Eli's case, their gender), abused them and turned them into monsters. Oskar through his bullies and Eli through the great "vampire". That's why it's so powerful when they connect with each other. For the first time, they're allowed to behave like children again. That's what it was about in the end. It wasn't about Oskar becoming Eli's new helper because the vampire in a way doesn't exist. It was about two children turning their backs on a society that has let them down. And the film adaptations have taken that and turned their relationship into something it wasn't.

I saw the film in 2009. I believed that Oskar would become what Håkan had been, a human helper who would age over time. Several elements led us to believe that Håkan had met Eli as a child and remained with her for 40 years or more. Years later, reading the book, I discovered that Håkan was a pedophile teacher, paid by Eli for his help. As a reward for her last mission she would let him touch her. In the literary sequel it turns out that Oskar was transformed into a vampire already in 1981 and that in 2008 the two are together

+Dalia Arredondo Too late for it now :( they're grown up and it wouldn't work. I wish they could have done that, they would've had to make it right after the first movie though and they never did
Its been a while since I saw this movie but what I remember from it is Eli's been through several helpers to support him/her need to feed off of human blood. That old man was not its father, it was it lover. I think Eli just wanted a replacement because he can't go around killing people on the streets it would be too obvious. Needs someone to not make it look bait.
In the book, the old man is just a creepy paedophile who been with Eli for a few months at best and often takes advantage of him. The only relationship they have is in his own twisted delusions.
Watched the monie let me in on Netflix and loved it. Then watched the original movie loved it even more. Then read the book and loved it the best. Then I got let the old dreams die. Loved the closure, but hated that it was all from another groups perspective and that it was only a short story. Didn't bother with the rest of the book.
If I'm not mistaken "Let the Old Dreams Die" is just an epilogue that only takes up a few pages, like five if I remember right. I'm pretty sure the rest of the book contains other short stories including one that follows up on the families in "Handling the Undead." I'm thoroughly excited for this book!
+Daniela Gomes It was a higher-pitched version of the movie's soundtrack Eli's Theme, the song that plays when she kisses Oskar and tells him she must leave.
Raining Insanity That is The End. Oskar never became a vampire in the movie. She needed a helper. That's what she groomed Oskar for. Just like the last guy.
From my reading, I assumed--though it's never stated-- that Karin and Stefan are going to try to get Eli and Oskar to turn them into vampires, as Stefan is dying of cancer and Karin is getting quite old and has had heart trouble.
I haven't read the book but I read that its a lot darker then the films. I heard that Eli was manipulative and although she acted like a child she had an adult mind and used her caretakers. But it would seem that if they were both vampires they must have decided to stay the same age together.
Not really. It's darker in a sense that the events in the book are more unpleasant, and perhaps there is more ambiguity as to whether Eli is manipulative or not, although the film does portray this to an extent. However, the overall sentiment is the same: although Eli is 200 years old she is still mentally and emotionally a child, and is lonely and craves company, in Oskar, who gives her humanity back
i am almost done with the book and i can tell you it is darker. the movies do not go into detail about hakan's pedophilia whereas the book goes into great detail and it takes the story to a pretty disgusting place toward the end. if you are not bothered by pedophilia then i guess it is not darker. the movies also do not go into any detail about the events of eli's castration
but if he was pedophile why would he be so devoted to her?? she has no sex organs and isnt even human...in the movie at least he seems to truly love her, which is why he pours acid on his face and sacrifices himself and, most tellingly, why he's jealous when she starts hanging out with oskar
and now that i think of it wouldnt oskar be REALLY disappointed to learn his girlfriend is actually a castrated boy?!?!? that's some fucked up shit! vampire or not i assume he was hoping to eventually have sex with her...
Authors can change the 'rules' regarding vampires as they like and often do. Like how in Anne Rice's cannon vampires cannot have sexual intercourse, and in Charlaine Harris' vampire novels they are highly sexual. And in this mythology, you'll notice that Eli conforms to vampire lore in that she will burn in the sunlight and can't cross a thresh hold without invitation, but she doesn't have fangs, nor does she regard herself as dead or seem to have evolved that much emotionally from the age at which she died. "I am 12...but I've been twelve for a long time." She is a forever preteen rather than an adult in a child's body.
They were not "vampire lovers". She needed a helper and she groomed him to be her helper, just like the old man she killed. The good ending was knowing that the boy would have a dedicated and supernatural girlfriend (until he became an old man at which point she would kill him too, but you needn't think about that). The old man was her helper. The reason he stuck around is because they were lovers.
Ok, I can rest at ease and not spend 23$ just to not read about Osker and Eli. Although, I am a little confused as to why Osker isn't choose to age till 17; his body would be stronger.
***** 17-12 is only a five year age gap. But like in public the hand holding would look like a (half) brother and sister, nothing more lol But a 30 year old would raise some questions. Their love could be sexual, but it would be Eli suggesting it. But at the end of the book and movie (and probably a lil while after) no sexual wants lol And since he changed before the majority of his hormones kicked in he won't have the urges (well, as strong of urges) that so many men do.
Eli bit and changed him soon after (or maybe even before) the scene with them on the train. She felt guilty for ruining Hakan's life and wanted a different outcome with Oskar -- especially one that lets them stay boyfriend/girlfriend forever because she loves him. It would be really romantic if it was implied that she bit him during the pool scene :) that would be sweet in my opinion. I don't know why.
Perukinho I disagree. I think you could reasonably make a case that the American movie was not as good as the Swedish one. And I think you could make a case that it was unneccessary remake. But, if you judge it on its own merits, without comparing it to the Swedish film, IMO, Let Me In is a great film.

***** personally I hate it when there's no ending, in books and movies, in my opinion it needs to finalise, something more substantial than a photo appearing or them on a train. Maybe just a movie where they are on their last legs or something.
+whambam jamsandwich I like those endings... It lets the reader/viewer interpret it in their own way. Sometimes an answer doesn't live up to the image you have in your head.

They could've made a second movie with that ending fr
OMG THEY SHOULD MAKE A LET THE RIGHT ONE IN PART 2!!!!!!!
I REALLY REALYY WISH THEY WOULD!!
This. Is. Perfect.
Thank you for sharing!
I love how it went they should make a movie :-)
+Dalia Arredondo Too late for it now :( they're grown up and it wouldn't work. I wish they could have done that, they would've had to make it right after the first movie though and they never did
"Chased by Stefan and Karin" is a bit inaccurate.
They might also be JOINED by Stefan and Karin, but that, of course, depends on Eli &Oskar.
+drakkar No, they spend like 28 years hunting for Osker and Elias
+Ondraya Sure, it was what might have happened once they got to Barcelona, i meant.
Eli and Oskar became vampire companions. It wasn't the writers intent for Eli to be just looking for another human caretaker
In the book, the old man is just a creepy paedophile who been with Eli for a few months at best and often takes advantage of him. The only relationship they have is in his own twisted delusions.
I wish the producers will make let me in or let the right one in part 2..
I like these characteuresse...
I believe they should do a next movie 🎬 call COME IN! and show the police 🚔 trying to find them ! Europe 🇪🇺
I was dying to know what happen next. THANKS!!
Handling of the undead has nothing to do with let the right one in though
Cool ! good to know that they're together forever,,,,,beautiful love story.
Thank you for posting this! I've been thinking about it constantly, wondering if Oskar becomes a vampire for days!
I think that was perfect!could you please tell me the name of the song?
+Daniela Gomes It was a higher-pitched version of the movie's soundtrack Eli's Theme, the song that plays when she kisses Oskar and tells him she must leave.
Shouldn't Oskar be in the box with Eli if he's a vamp as well.
He isn't a vampire, she groomed him to be her helper.
@@tradebasedonnaturalresourc8777 no it's just cuz in that scene he's not a vampire yet
Raining Insanity
That is The End. Oskar never became a vampire in the movie. She needed a helper. That's what she groomed Oskar for. Just like the last guy.
@@tradebasedonnaturalresourc8777 not in the movie, but this vid talks about after the movie
@@tradebasedonnaturalresourc8777 Eli wasn't just grooming Oskar to become her helper, according to Let The Old Dreams Die
I hope not... the story is fine the way it is, a sequel would screw it up.
How is Oskar a vampire? I don't understand how you came to this idea. Was it said in the book or what?
+lily-liver can you explain? i haven't read the book but i always assumed the old man was basically the same as Oskar 50 years ago...
but if he was pedophile why would he be so devoted to her?? she has no sex organs and isnt even human...in the movie at least he seems to truly love her, which is why he pours acid on his face and sacrifices himself and, most tellingly, why he's jealous when she starts hanging out with oskar
and now that i think of it wouldnt oskar be REALLY disappointed to learn his girlfriend is actually a castrated boy?!?!? that's some fucked up shit! vampire or not i assume he was hoping to eventually have sex with her...
BUT THAT BOOK HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED YET
But why Eli didn't transform to a vampire her last partner?
If Oskar is a vampire how does he get to ride on the train? Shouldn't he be in the coffin like Eli?
Carson Ross He becomes a vampire after the train ride.
I love it :)
Thank you thank you thank you!!
the Epilogue itself is only around 30 pages...but their are other stories making up the book ..the Epilogue is good though...very good :)
Beautiful Lina has a face of an angel
😄 because she was an angel in this movie
please tell me where you got the book.....is there one translated in english? i've been trying to find one.....thank you so much for uploading.
Thank you!
Could someone give me a summary of the sequel?
Anyone know what happened to Abby and Owen? Guys what happened to them? Please answer
Abby and Owen traveled the world for at least 27 years, happily doing whatever vampire kids do
@@jumpboy29 thanks pal, wanna be friends?
It's the same as Let The Right Ones In. Eli/Abby made Oskar/Owen into a vampire. They just traveling around the world 🌎.
@@mikee6571 thanks for the reply :)
This movie is so beautiful💘💘💘💘
Vampires don t appare in photos
So how could Eli and Oskar by photographed
Authors can change the 'rules' regarding vampires as they like and often do. Like how in Anne Rice's cannon vampires cannot have sexual intercourse, and in Charlaine Harris' vampire novels they are highly sexual. And in this mythology, you'll notice that Eli conforms to vampire lore in that she will burn in the sunlight and can't cross a thresh hold without invitation, but she doesn't have fangs, nor does she regard herself as dead or seem to have evolved that much emotionally from the age at which she died. "I am 12...but I've been twelve for a long time." She is a forever preteen rather than an adult in a child's body.
happy ending
This film can not have a good ending.
Bad / sad ending is the only possible.
And yet if did get a good ending or at the very least a bittersweet one, where Oskar and Eli became vampire lovers.
Masa sih ending nya kek gitu?
Kalo mreka brdua jd vmpire, lalu nanti siapa yg mlindungi n mncarikan drh??
Atau mreka berburu bareng di mlm hari?
Doesn't need comments for people that doesen't understand movies.
Thanks
Ok, I can rest at ease and not spend 23$ just to not read about Osker and Eli. Although, I am a little confused as to why Osker isn't choose to age till 17; his body would be stronger.
+Ondraya i thought about that myself, like why not wait til age 30 even? but i guess he wants to be the same age as Eli for all eternity
***** I can understand not wanting to be 30 and in love with someone that looks 12 o.o That would be a bit awkward in public.
i think it would be weird if he was 17 and she was 12! do you think their love is sexual or just platonic?
***** 17-12 is only a five year age gap. But like in public the hand holding would look like a (half) brother and sister, nothing more lol But a 30 year old would raise some questions. Their love could be sexual, but it would be Eli suggesting it. But at the end of the book and movie (and probably a lil while after) no sexual wants lol And since he changed before the majority of his hormones kicked in he won't have the urges (well, as strong of urges) that so many men do.
17 and 12 is a pretty big difference! especially at that age...
I wish they would make Fortnite skins of Oscar and Eli!
It pleases me

Why bother to 'chase' vampires? You find them, and then what? Prosecute them?
Stefan and Karin are too old to chase them.
Yall are some weirdos. No wonder I don't watch movies anymore.
Their both boys though.........
Horay. Eli power
Lindo
So osker is a vanpire but how (sorry of about my spaling)
Eli bit and changed him soon after (or maybe even before) the scene with them on the train. She felt guilty for ruining Hakan's life and wanted a different outcome with Oskar -- especially one that lets them stay boyfriend/girlfriend forever because she loves him.
It would be really romantic if it was implied that she bit him during the pool scene :) that would be sweet in my opinion. I don't know why.
Radish Farm
Yeah, after being transformed into an undead monster.
Wait, isn't Eli supposed to be a boy who was castrated? Eli is a guy (a nobody she refers to herself). Sorry, I have only watch the films.
Kenneth Liang Eli was castrated as a boy by a wealthy vampire lord
Ok then why do people keep referring Eli as a girl? He's a 600 year old dude.
The USA Remake is a really Bad Movie.
Perukinho I disagree. I think you could reasonably make a case that the American movie was not as good as the Swedish one. And I think you could make a case that it was unneccessary remake. But, if you judge it on its own merits, without comparing it to the Swedish film, IMO, Let Me In is a great film.
The book's author loved both films.
Its hilariously terrible. I wouldnt even rent it from red box. Or on demand, for that matter. Even torrenting... lol
+Casper Jean Rimbaud O.o Did we watch the same horrible remake? It's not the same movie
