As a Singaporean, I wish Malaysia all the best. But seriously, it is not about Malaysia winning Singapore. That is the perspective or lens that Dr Mahathir uses to see Singapore - why he wanted to focus on the price of water. As if that would enriched Malaysia, or impoverish Singapore.
What Malaysia needs to do to is focus on the basic. Good jobs for the people. Attract investments that can provide good jobs. Education that prepares young Malaysians for better jobs when they graduate. Or else you will read stories of graduates who sell Nasi Lemak for a living. Not about "winning" Singapore. Singapore is not concerned with being better than Malaysia. Singapore is simply interested in giving Singaporeans the best opportunities, and making Singapore a good place to live and raise our families. Basic things. That we "beat" Malaysia was never our intent or concern. Malaysia beat itself. With its lack of focus. Lack of integrity. And self-sabotaging policies. Singaporeans have a phrase for Malaysian politicians: "Prata". Or as Malaysians know it, "Roti Canai". Because, what a Malaysia politicians says on Monday is EXACTLY the same as what he says on Friday.... after flipping his views on Tue, Wed, and Thursday.
BUT... hopefully, that is all in the past.
I am hopeful with PM Anwar. He seems serious, focused, and a man of Integrity. Malaysia has a lot of potential. I hope Anwar is able to unlock it.

Singapore sells back the water at 50sen, a mere fraction of what it costs to purify. back then when Dr M was PM, he also dont want to re-nego as johor was benefitting so much from this agreement. Real estate investors losing money is music to my ears. They are a major reason why the real estate market is the way that it is now.
Actually, you can blame the Fed for manipulating the market by keeping interest rates artificially low for the last decade. They created this mess and now there's no way to fix it without completely crashing the market. And I'm OK with that.
You can also blame the Fed but most of it goes to those investors that have made life difficult for the 61% of people that are living paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to buy a home because of these investors that gobble up the properties and jacking up the rent and buying price for a home. That’s BS.
He's mainly talking about CA real estate in the Bay Area for this video. Many real estate investors in other parts of CA, and even other states, are still doing well. In CA, I'm sure the lack of supply to meet demand, rising construction costs, extremely long process to approve housing projects, and high property taxes are just a few things causing high housing prices in the state. It's bias to just use real estate investors as the scapegoat to "a major reason why the real estate market is the way that it is now".
The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Winning not so important but closing the gap is. Singapore and Malaysia is similar in many respect except politics. So Singapore is the potential what Malaysia can be.
Singapore is used as a benchmark because they are successful not because we want to beat them. That is how you improve yourself.

Is this a good time to buy stocks/crypto in the Europe? I know everyone is saying stocks are at a discount and all, but just how long will It take for us to recover, obviously there are strategies to manoeuver in this present market but these strategies doesn't come common to the average folk, or am I better off putting my money elsewhere.
I'll suggest you find an investment coach or someone with market experience before the 08' crash to guide you amidst this inflation.
@@JanMuench467 I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an inv-coach, seeing that their entire skillset is built around short & long term holdings for profit realisation, coupled with the exclusive analysis they possess, it's near impossible to not out-perform. I've been investing with a coach literally for 4years, and have accrued approx. $1.4m in net-profits thus far.

Many times Malaysia has grand ideas. But many times the failure is the execution, to push thru such projects the new government needs to first revamp the civil service and remove inefficiencies.
Malaysia has big problems ~ any contracts n investments are so uncertain. A government shift/change can bankrupt you ~ Eg HSR cancelled, even signed as country-country basis and cancellation of MM2H status of Forest City impeding the sales to Foreign Chinese investors.
This Unity Government is walking the tightrope and there are dark clouds glooming over a SG4 and Singapore all time nemesis = TM as consultant. Anything that hinders this Melayu cohort ~ be sure HE will light a fire under your feet.

New times with new opportunities, but Malaysia is just unable to grasp these. The Unity Government cannot adhere to strict economic manoeuvres with the elements of Bumiputra poking at its throat; especially those oppositions that played the racial, religious cards. Many times, Malaysia economic reforms are like 2 steps forward and 1 step back, waltzing to the racial n religious waves of the Melayu.
Malaysia has milked their “cash cows” of Petronas dried and killed the Golden Goose of MM2H ~ it is a barren trade field that the Unity Government is proposing for investments.
Erm, for those old enough, Malaysia's economic growth has always been private sector driven, not much rely on government. Hence, as long as the government is fairly competent, progressive, laser focus on economy, be more plugged in the international business/supply chains and total halt on race/religion, Malaysia will already can grow very fast and become very rich.
To grow faster for a RM 1.7trillion economy is not easy due to the diminishing return effect. During the 60s the external environment is not exactly very conducive for Malaysia but we start off at a lower base that makes growth easier and there are lots of low hanging fruits. The faster Malaysia transition to EV the lesser the fuel subsidy will be. That will mean additional development funds.
In order for Rm to strengthen first we need to fix the demand for rm. BNM can measure the flow of the sgd to rm ie Malaysia and Singapore is like two babies connected to the same umbilical cord. The blood that flows is the FX. At the end of the day consumption plays a very big role for both economy so how does Malaysia make it easy for the capital to come into its economy that can boost spending will determine the strength of the ringgit. Higher wage will improve domestic spending.

Singapore is an outlier, it is a city state with a very unique set of circumstances resulting in a type of government and economies that is hard to replicate for a bigger country. What Malaysia should try to compare would be neighbouring countries like Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia for a comparison of its development and growth, rather than constantly fixated with comparing with Singapore
Singapore and Malaysia should work together so that both countries can benefit from each other

Actually, as an ASEAN nation, Malaysia is doing quite well with GDP per capita of US$13,000 and inching towards high income of US$15,000 in 2-3 years. What needs to be done is eliminate brain drain and have brain gain instead, also need to empower the remaining states out of Klang Valley to become more economically powerful, im looking at quick wins states like Penang, Johor and Sarawak in particular.

I sincerely hope our edu will let the students choose what they really want to learn instead of forcing them to learn useless knowledge that is totally unrelated to the job in their future. What we really need is practical experience, not 100 marks in exams. None of my friends speak the ways that school taught us. NONE, ZERO.
The following needs to be addressed:
1. Many Malaysians are well-educated but these pool is generally working in Singapore. Will they go back to work in Malaysia? Unlikely unless they are paid 2/3 of what they earned in Singapore after conversion to RM.
2) High income? Penang has many high-value industries like semi-conductor. But how much the engineers or technicians are being paid? Won’t this pay be a prelude to what a high-income Malaysian will earn once Malaysia becomes a high-income country? Penang’s GDP per capital is RM70k vs Malaysia’s RM55k.

One of the fundamental problem is the people. Different races move in different directions on the same boat. The leaders are the same. That's why it's impossible to be successful and over time, the boat will be stagnant or even drift backward if it didn't sink. Sad.

Malaysia and Singapore are both linked by history. There is no need to win Singapore, but she should focus on competitions from countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam. Malaysia should also have a vision and shared goal that all her citizens believe in, aspire towards and lots of hard work to achieve it. Having a grand plan and framework is a start, but the ability to execute the actions that are essential to implement those plans is critical for success. All the best.

The main problem we young face now is the tax. We pay more then sg and get less then sg. So what is the point of we stay at malaysia
many Singaporean based company now moving/hiring in KL/Malaysia. I can see the surge of these companies moving their R&D/Tech team to KL/Remote Malaysia
Factories from Tuas Benoi Sector, Jurong, Pioneer and even Tai Seng are moving out to Pasir Gudang, Shah Alam, Seberang Prai and Kulim
It's happening, SG is not sustainable. I have been preaching Klang Valley/KL to be the new and enhanced epicentre of technology, business and retail even in South East Asia 10 years ago. But, unfortunately, Malaysia become a political mess the past 10 years so it didn't happen so fast, now, I think it will at a much rapid pace.

This guy is totally off. Malaysia is an economy with US$420bn and GDP per capita of US$13,000, that alone already exceeded all ASEAN nations except Brunei and SG, in part due to its small size. Klang Valley has hit high income even 10-15 years ago, with GDP of US$180bn with approx. GDP per capita of US$19,000 - US$20,000 today!

If all goes well, Malaysia will hit US$20,000 GDP per capita and probably close to $60,000 GDP per capita (PPP) by 2030. Assuming Malaysia's growth is significantly faster than most, Malaysia will be top 40 wealthiest by GDP per capita (PPP) globally then it's pretty good and happy for Malaysians already.

Whereas Malaysia, always 2 goals which conflicts with each other. First, must save Malay first, this is the no1 goal, then comes the 2nd goal, grow country economy... and the first goal is actually slowing down the 2nd goal, thats y i said each goal conflicts with each other
when you hv 2 conflicting goals, you re wasting much energy, certainly it is expected to lose to Sg in long run.
The biggest problem lies, they are rather big with lands, one can ignore or isolate the other. Sg is notably bloody cram, and with National Service, we have to blend or gel together.

This might be off topic a bit.. My friend was one of the government scholarship that should've gone to UK for his PHD study. Not just him. All batch for that year.. That time, we heard a lot about swindles of money when Najib was a PM. and it was under international news too. Just imagine a lot of money under people's name got robbed away. That surely made our development went down and we as Malaysians cant lift our face... Malu tau x!!!! And now i really hope PMX can do his best. With anti corruption theme.. As a fan of your channel (I genuinely mean that, love your content) - I think you should take a break with obsessing over Singapore, it seems like every other video you create is about how Malaysia can be "as good" as Singapore. Take the reserves for example, Mahathir squandered it defending a currency peg. Singapore kept her reserves, today it's subsidizing around SGD20 Billion in expenditure per annum, meanwhile Malaysia is servicing debt.

You guys expecting too much from a new government. IMO, Malaysia need at least 10 years to recover from all the corruptions and bad decision making from the last 50 years. The 1st 5 years will be the crucial phase in order to put things accordingly and in the same time fighting corruption that is so deep among the public servant. The 2nd 5 years is going to be about focusing on improving life quality, enhancing youth talent and bringing more investors in.

It's happening, SG is not sustainable that's the #1 fact. I have been preaching Klang Valley/KL to be the new and enhanced epicentre of technology, business and retail even in South East Asia 10 years ago. But, unfortunately, Malaysia become a political mess the past 10 years so it didn't happen so fast, now, I think it will at a much rapid pace.

Currency value is not an indicator the the health of the economy. South Korea and Japan both have lower currency values than RM and they're at least 10x wealthier than Malaysia. I get pissed off when people complain about falling currency and blame the government and politicians feeding into this ignorance to win votes. If demand for RM increases globally, RM will go up. Singapore currency is so high because it is literally home to the busiest port in the world. The demand SGD has cannot even compare to MYR even if Malaysia becomes a high income economy. However, the biggest problem remains our deplorable education system, and this is something that requires tremendous political will and over 20+ years to fix. Do any of our politicians have this in mind? Highly doubtful.

Sorry but for last 20 years, I seen many investment in innovation, education, infrastructure and etc, by most standards Malaysia is quite good compare with the region (ASEAN) with similar economic & social approach. So do not think this new policy would do much impact if compare with Singapore with has vastly different approach through meritocracy and leveraging on foreign talents. This is also why USA is able to over take Old Europe in 100 years, from cowboy land to superpower.

I think the point he raises about moving malaysia to high value misses the key point. To go to high value economy, u need a high value workforce and this means a high value education. But (and Malaysians should know this better) the education system is actually trending in the opposite direction. I have been going to Malaysia since young, but Go to Malaysia today, and u will find younger Malaysian barely able to communicate in English (across all races). In fact I generally find older Malaysians better able to speak English. The quality of younger Malaysians I have worked with in singapore are really not impressive (come late, leave early. Or I had cases where they could not understand the content of an email in English and I had to explain to them) and if these are the ‘brain drain’ then I shudder to think what’s left behind in Malaysia.
Now, I am talking about Malaysians educated in their national school system and go on to their local universities. The ones attending international schools then go on to overseas unis, they are as competitive as any other international talent. But that represents only those well off enough to afford or genuinely smart ones able to secure scholarships. Ultimately, the vast majority of Malaysians will have to go thru their local education system and my personal experience, they are not equip for a high value economy. So perhaps to fix the Malaysian economy , first start with the education system and start with improving attitudes towards hard work, striving for excellence in everything they do.

Blame the old man for the wrong policies post the Asian crisis. Singapore, South Korea & Taiwan reinvented their economies while while Malaysia just went on as cheap labour, low cost manufacturing. Also he did not change the education system to meet new challenges. Now we have lagged behind & will be a challenge to move up but nonetheless we need to.
Actually, Malaysians already won. Most of my managers working in the MNC the last time are Malaysian but educated either at Singapore or overseas university. Malaysia suffer brain drain because of it unmeritocratic education policy.
This dream will remain a dream hahahaha. But learn from the mistakes, to try again nex time.

Remove race quotas for Tertiary/ University admissions based on meritocracy. Abolish the label classification of Bumiputera and non Bumiputera. The current fed govt social welfare assistance should be for all Malaysians regardless of race and based on income bracket.
Race quota is not just a Malaysian thing. Australia, United States and China (to name a few countries) have this system too. The sole purpose of it is to help bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. We should strive for equity not equality because equality does not exist.
