  • In part 2 of this new full-length episode, we get the old Chev home and start seeing if, in fact, it will run. Is it even possible that we might get it to move under its own power for the first time in 45 years? Do we have some sweet rims for this one? Tune in for more thoughtful, insightful contemplation on these important issues.

    My dad brought a 2-door version of this car back to UK from USA and it was the car of my childhood. After he died my mum traded it in for a Morris Oxford without telling me and I never recovered from the shock. Brought tears to my eyes seeing what you did getting this one going again. Brilliant! Thanks.

    You know you're a true car lover when your mouth waters and your heart beats faster at the sight of that old '50 just the way she is. Priceless patina, vintage wheels for the hot rod look, and suddenly a car with four doors and a straight six is everybody's wet dream.

    Yes, people used to work on their own cars! I learned by watching my dad; he wouldn't pay anyone to work on his cars, so he did all his own maintenance and repair.

    Guys, I was 1 when this automobile was made. Here in the UK we don't have the quantity of old cars, they rusted away or there wasn't room so were scrapped.
    Look at this fabulous shape, so old, but nothing new comes anywhere near it. It's fantastic.It's Outa sight, Man!

    After nearly 60 years, I can finally enjoy this car. I was born in '55, and by the time I was 4 years old and able to pay attention, the NEW, late fifties cars were FAR superior! We had a '57 Chevy 210 wagon, I still love its style out of all fifties cars. Well, I was a little boy snob! 8-) We inherited one of these from an elderly relative in about '59. I now like its "fastback" shape, but not then! Fastbacks would only return 7 to 8 years later, an eon for a small kid! The colors of all those cars are dull, you can't even imagine them shiny! The paint faded fast and was replaced with a far better formulation by '55 or so. Get an unfaded color picture of this age car when it was new. Huge difference! Lastly, I love those mags! Makes me think that it could have been a cool hot rod! They say "I'm not what you think I am Sonny, I'm one HOT older Chevy!"

  • @coldwarmotors
    @coldwarmotors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks! This engine was pretty easy to get going because it wasn't seized. Most of the work was getting a complete ignition system together and getting a good spark. Carb was cleaned and seemed ok. We bypassed the wiring harness so that the 12v battery wouldn't harm the original wiring or instruments. Obviously, it would need a lot more work to be roadworthy, but it wouldn't be too difficult. Good luck with your Chevy!

    That's a good question. It would probably run for 15 minutes or so before it did real, serious damage. We only ran the car for a minute or so at a time, and let it cool right off between shots. With fresh oil, and just idling past, the engine suffered no ill effects. I certainly wouldn't risk doing damage; it is, after all, my own car and I'd like to restore it some day. Thanks for watching, and for your question.

    We changed the oil and only ran the engine for short periods at low revs so no damage was done. I started this Chev again a few weeks ago and it is running fine. It looks crazy, but I am pretty careful to not damage these old engines. Thanks for checking it out!

    Couldn't wait to see this 2nd video where you get her running. You did it the same way I started my '49 Olds for the first time, except mine has the correct starter. I did have to run a new wire from the push button, though. Even though mine is a 257 flathead six, it sounded pretty much like your Chevy does. Started mine up without a fan, too. I have one off a '50 Olds, but it doesn't fit. My water pump shaft is larger. By the way, no turn signals on my Olds either. They were still an option in '49. Thanks guys. Another great video!
