+CGrascal This is actually closer to the original. If you read the Japanese version, Abel's name is written differently than how it was in the original FE. It's a misspelling. Treehouse is actually closer to the Japanese meaning.
+CGrascal Michalis was also misspelled as Michel in the JP version. Treehouse might have thought this meant Michelle, which made no sense for a male dragon, and overhauled his name accordingly.
in this case tho the horse's name was abel. there's no way that could be misconstrued feel me?

Yes, all children inherited their mother's hair color since it's the males who obtain children in this game. The only exception is Male Kana who inherited his father's hair color instead
