@@nathanrock9269 It's super energetic and definitely the more engaging performance to watch. However, SCV's is for sure the more accurate rendition, much more focused and clean.
I listened to this piece back in the 1970s on an album that had this on one side and Pablo Casals playing Bach's cello suites on the other side. I loved both of them and listened to that record more times than I can count. The LP is now buried somewhere in a trunk, probably with a few scratches. I am now hearing this piece again after 35 years. So nice to find it online! Great piece of music.
One of the most powerful things i've heard in my life. Kind of blows a hole in my chest from where my soul can just drop and fall into the ground with a smile on its face. The cup of beauty overflowing. Obrigado, Antena 2.
I had no intentions of listening to the three movements, but got engrossed and the 3 movements past. Bravo!!! Beautiful rich sound, impeccable intonation and very clear musical direction - the performance of a master.
Qué maravilla. Felicitaciones Santiago Cañón. Yo no conocía esta obra, hasta hoy la descubro; y eso gracias a que le he venido siguiendo la pista a Ud. desde el reciente premio Tchaikovsky.
"Kodaly? Yes cool folk tune, look it's easy and fun, nice for warm up, check this out" Proceeds playing one of the best versions I ever heard of this legendary and hellishly difficult piece😂
I know this sonata, it one of most difficult technically for performing... However You have a great relationship with technic for years yet. But! It's nice to hear that you have more and more beutiful sound! Bravo! Keep up!
when the "Cello-Suites" from JS Bach are the "Old Testament", the Cello Solo Sonatas by Kodály are teh "New Testament" ;-) Wonderful interpretation by the way!
Wow, brilliant as always. How do you deal with getting rosin on your fingertips when left hand plays so close to the bridge? I find when that happens my fingers stick on the string and it’s hard to slide.
Don Newmeyer, when sliding after being so high, use less pressure when moving between positions until your finger become less sticky. This was one of the most challenging things that comes with this sonata for me.
Una interpretación magistral y un gran legado. Nadie toca esta obra maestra como este gran cellista. Lamentablemente la edición con fotos es muy mediocre y arruina todo.
Santiago has the best doublestops I've ever heard. His chords are so determined and accurate. That's strength and practice!
i love his double stops
Man I was thinking the same thing!!! His initiation is superb!!!! Those double stops………..👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Muy hermosa obra!,no la conocía! Y su interpretación es maravillosa!
Breathtaking performance.
I never thought I'd hear a better Kodaly than that of Janos Starker, but I now stand corrected. Well done Santiago - this is phenomenal!
What are your thoughts on Sebastian Bäverstams rendition of the 3rd movement of the Kodaly cello sonata?

Have not heard this absolutely astonishing piece in decades... played here with impeccable perfection - and with the necessary abandon. THANK YOU!
This is a monumental performance and interpretation.

Literally the best version I've ever heard. Bravo!
Love how you played the opening. It's very different from your previous recordings, more intense with closer space between the notes.
