    I can't imagine your fuel costs. We did a cross country with my wife's 4runner and a 20 ft camper last summer, was paying over $4 a gallon for 87 most states. Currently in CT we are at $6 a gallon for diesel

    I drove a m35a3 towbar pulling a m820 5 ton
    Expando Van approx 250 miles. Not the smartest thing we ever did… The 3116 cat did not like it but I was really surprised the trans never got warm. I wish whoever designed the repower options for the m35a3 program would have picked a trans other than the 1545 Allison with only a 1:1 for top gear as the approx 50 mph top speed empty is brutal when coming from an m35a2 that will run 59mph at 2600rpm even with the smaller 9:00x20 tires or approx 18% faster.

      Woah that must have gotten a lot of attention!! Yes I really wish the transmission had a 5 speed automatic. They had the technology…but military contracting goes to the lowest bidder

    I have Deuce. Not quite back to "mint" condition. I still have 3 more pinion seals to replace, one rusted spot on the cab to cut-and-but, and the cab to paint.
    Strangely enough...I like driving it. It's slow speed bothers me. And in hot, humid NC weather it is horrible to be stuck in traffic with the engine heating the air around you.
    But as long as you can keep moving, and don't need to go faster than about 45 mph, it is a very capable and easily handled vehicle.
    I hope your trip was successful.
    Before the Ukraine thin blew up, I considered driving my Deuce around the world for peace... Naive. Yes. But as retired military, you have to put away your gins sometime...

      Thanks for sharing! Good luck on your Deuce build. Yeah the 55mph max really made the road trip a lot longer than it needed to be

      The Hitch comes with eight, massive Grade-8 bolts, took me I think 3 drills bits and a lot of drilling to get through the 1/4” steel

    You got an A3? Not as fun as an A2 with shifting and no power steering ;)

    • @Elliott_Ray
      @Elliott_Ray  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wanted the automatic for Convenience purposes with driving it a lot, but yes the 5-speed would have been nice to hit 60mph on this long journey. But I made do

    • @hummerguy
      @hummerguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The no power steering on the A2 is annoying but I can live with it. I just wish overdrive kits were still made. I keep my A2 around 45-53 mph, I'm pretty sure if I changed the tires out to the super singles, I'll be able to do 55-60 which would be much more practical for me, and if I had the overdrive kit plus the super singles, it'll probably do 75. I know tactical repair has an overdrive kit plus the G177 tires and he done 75

      @@hummerguyI thought they were already overdrive? I heard 4th was a 1:1 and 5th was an overdrive. They definitely have the torque to pull 70 though, just can't get there with stock gearing because it runs out of the powerband so early.

    When you steal a tiedown chain from the Navy, but you don't know how to use it. ABHs everywhere were dying watching that.

      How so? He got the chain as tight as possible by hand, locked it in place, then took the tension out by tightening it.
