Did another Macan. Started with 220 and it took a little over each headlight. First came out mint. Second came out very slightly foggy. Probably wouldn’t notice if the other one wasn’t mint. What brand of 220 do you use? I use 3M wet/dry. Wears out fast and seems to remove quicker dry sanding but then the grit clogs quickly.
Factory protective layer will always be very tough to get through. I restored a relatively new M4 headlight for a customer of mine that was accident damaged. Took me around 9 hours to fully complete the job. Spraying clear coat over a non clear headlight. I.e one that's still heavily grooved from course sanding - will never last. The clear coat and plastic will eventually conflict and repel leaving you with crazing. The plastic should be crystal clear before any top coat is applied 👌🏼
As someone who has restored thousands these past 10 years, I’ve never spent more than 3 hours sanding even the toughest headlights. You need to incorporate 220 grit in your arsenal lol. Also 2K bonds best right over a sanded surface of 800-1000 grit. It lasts up to 6 years, good enough for me to give a lifetime warranty with it
