It feels like the moment someone wants to help, they’re just entirely unequipped or the system prevents them from helping.
It’s a miracle (grounded, but still incredibly fortunate) that Wee Bey was around to give Colvin consent to give Namond a better chance in life

Just think. If Randy and Dukie were in a different environment where their talents could be nurtured, Randy could have been an MBA and Dukie could have gone to MIT.

Absolutely, Dukie had skills but no one to help him cultivate them

Randy reminds me of myself. I was sent to a group boys home when I was 13 years old after my mother died from kidney disease. I eventually ran away from that group home & then I got kicked out when I tried to return after a few days couch surfing. I ended up on the streets for about three days. I ended up back home with my five half brothers & their father. For some reason, I don't recall how or why that happened. My father came to get me & my younger brother, who was still in the same group home that I was kicked out off/ran away from, after a few days (might've been a lot longer but I only remember a few days). I lived with his two sisters/my aunts for the next five, not horrible, but not happy, years. My father, who I think was a great guy, was always around, so it was like he lived with us. I just felt very unliked by my entire family, (including my father. After I was an adult & on my own, we were great friends, as a father & son could be), except my younger brother. I left home as soon as I graduated high school (which i was told would never happen. I had to repeat the 9th grade because i stopped going to school to live with a beautiful 21 year old woman who corrupted me for a full year before i told myself, "you gotta get your shit together before you end up like people say you're gonna end up). I actually graduated with honors & got one academic & one basketball scholarship offer, but I turned both of them down because i hated school, even though i loved learning & i loved playing basketball (i didn't play on my high school team. I got the scholarship from word of mouth from people & maybe one coach who saw me play). I joined the Army & was recruited to join military intelligence because of my high test scores. (I still got my bachelors & masters degrees while i was in the army. They cost me about $500 total). I did that until I retired after 20 years & then I got hired to work at MIT Lincoln Laboratory as a Lead Scientist of intelligence & Technology for the next five years before I retired for good at age 42 from the science & intelligence business. Today, I'm a business owner, millionaire & have been married for over 20 years. Lucky for me, I never did what Dukie did, like take drugs or start drinking or listening to the family members & other people who told me I was going to be nothing. Somehow, I always knew things would turn around once I was allowed to make my own decisions, even though my childhood was shaky at best.

he drew the line to connect easily. marlo was ruthless and no fam. randy got his innocence and connections to friend severed and killed off the ramaining heart he had.
then all he had was his name in the end and zero emotion. add that to his calculated mind and grind and determination. you have MARLO 2.0

Prez and Carver tried to adopt/foster both these kids out of realization the situation they were in (and to various degrees, their own responsibility), and were actively dissuaded from doing so. Imagine if someone like Omar/Micheal was aware of those conversations, I wonder how they may react.
