    Like so many, I have repeatedly had problems with the right input level. Never before have I received such a precise answer to my question, even though I have already seen so many TH-cam videos on this topic. Thank you for your tireless commitment, you are an excellent teacher and for all Studio One users your videos are mandatory reading. Thanks so much

    Thank you Thank you Thank you. I own Studio One V6. I have had various DAW's like Reaper, Cakewalk, etc dating all the way back to when Fl Studio was known as "FruityLoops" in the early 2000's. . In all of the documentation, no one ever explores what to do when something does not work as expected. The 1st 3 minutes of this video is a perfect example of doing things correctly, where you show adding a track but you get no input options. Standard documentation just assumes your inputs are available. But nothing provides any guidance about what to do if you do not see any inputs.
    AND I can honestly tell you that I had no idea about the very existence of the INPUT meter until watching your video just now. I had no idea that the meters that do display in the mixer screen are OUTPUT and not the best choice to make sure your signal is neither too hot nor too low. Even Groove3 tutorial does not have this information as far as I can tell. I will check your links and try to throw a few dollars your way. This one video has been more helpful to me than literally hours of other videos at the Presonus site or on Groov3. Thanks again..

    Nice clear tips, thanks! You can access the I/O from I/O button on the left, above the inputs and outputs buttons you were using 👍 I also think you can change the channel monitoring to monitor the input if you right click on it too. But i agree its way easier to look at the actual input view

    thanks for the video, but it's called 'how to set recording levels'...so where exactly do you adjust the level of the signal coming in Studio One? thanks

  • @Drumbone71

    This was the one I needed. I have a Studiolive AR mixer. So I set the levels on the mixer then record then do the gain staging on the DAW?

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      setting recording levels and "gain staging are two different things.

    Great video with nice clear, understandable (especially to a newbie like me) information.
    My question:
    When I set up a midi track, and access the input feature (that you explained in your video) I do not see an input channel for my midi (either EZ-Drummer, or Keyboard VST). Is this normal? If not, what is the correct way to set these instruments up - what are the correct track/IO settings to fix this - so that when I open up the inputs, I can set the input volume level?

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You won't see the input meter for VST instruments, only when you actually plug in a cable to your interface and record audio. You may want to check this out

    What does it mean when the input channel has a “red box” above it with a numerical value? I can click on it to clear it, I assume it’s some kind of clipping indicator. I have my gain set below -12 when tracking

  • @larrytate1657

    Hi David I was watching one of your mixing made easy videos and you mentioned never to turn your master fader up ever in the daw simply for more volume but to do instead from your headphones. Does the opposite also apply? For a while I was keeping my master fader set to -9 db while playing live drums/guitar and recording. Would having that Master fader at -9 db to start off a mix cause any issues and maybe I should turn it up to zero db and lower our headphone mix volume? I also have been keeping all my tracks set to -6 db on all the faders saved that way in my template. Should I take everything to 0? Thanks again

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  ปีที่แล้ว

      correct. put the master fader a zereo

      It’s ok to keep track faders at -6 though right? That allows for my fader headroom.

    Why do I have my input L+R meter showing and my input L showing at the same time ?

      I am really not sure. I recommend that you go to the Presonus user forum and post your question there. I am sure someone there can help. Thanks!
