    After a full season of testing (and then some), the best shore fluke rods we've ever used are the Shimano Dialuna and the Daiwa Labrax AGS. These are 9' and 9'6 "surf" rods, rated to around 1.5oz, and weigh a hair over 5oz. Paired to a Daiwa Ballistic 4000 LT, the entire setup is in the neighborhood of 13oz total.

    Greetings from Chile. I am thinking in acquiring the 96m, but the B version (either the dialuna of the lunamis). It would be nice to know your thoughts on baitcasting the same type of lures/technique. We are flounder seekers here on Chilean coasts, and once a season you might catch a 4 or 5 kilos. With light equipment is a joy. Your channel is very interesting and full of respect for the specie.

      High there! I am more comfortable using spinning reels from the surf, since it is a little more water/sand proof than baitcasters. But in the back bays I use a lot of baitcasters, mainly freshwater bass setups. I think you'll be very happy with the new Dialuna, I would buy that over the Lunamis personally. If you want spinning definitely check out my 21 Labrax video too - th-cam.com/video/beG9Z4pQgYg/w-d-xo.html

      @@CookingandFishing Thanks for your reply. I understand your point on baitcasters in sea shore. What took me by surprise was your recommendation of the Dialuna over the Lunamis. I was leaning for the later thinking that it is higher in Shimano's own scale (and price). Is there any particular reason why you prefer the new Dialuna? Or is it just that you don't see much of a difference between the two to actually pay more for the Lunamis? It would be of great help to know your opinion on this. Thanks in advance!

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pablotenkara3057 I have much more experience with the corresponding rods in freshwater. The Dialuna shares the same blank/tech as the Exprides, and the Lunamis is the equivalent of the Poison Adrena. IMO the Exprides were a better buy than the Poison Adrena, if you can find the actions you want, and likewise the Dialuna (esp the new B version) is going to be a better buy than the Lunamis. Also, the Lunamis/Adrena lines are due for a refresh next year, while the new Dialuna came out this year...I always like having brand new models to fish with :)

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1oz + plastic? Definitely the MH. It will be tip heavy. However...I can't imagine needing that much weight from shore. Aren't the cali beaches very gradual sloping for the most part? People use SP Minnows for halibut out there!

    for shore jigging with metal spoons and lures from jetties would you recommend the dialuna or the labrax? its important to me that the rod will be stiff and not flexible.. i mainly target small seabass, bluefish and spanish macks... (all not more then 8 lb)

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it depends on what type of shore jigging. If you're doing Japanese style "slow" jigging, I would say the Dialuna is an excellent choice as long as you stay within its lure ratings. I would want a rod with a lively yet fast-recovering tip for that style of lift and fall jigging. Palms Republic has a bunch of videos on that slow jigging, along with several series of dedicated rod models for it. But to answer your question: the Labrax is definitely faster tapered than the Dialuna, and if you want a "stiffer" tip section that's what you should get. The other option is to take a chance on the MH power Dialuna, which imo is a fair gamble since it's still 100+ dollars cheaper than the Labrax.

    • @smoothddd
      @smoothddd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks man! im doing japnese style shore jigging mainly for spanish macks, little tunnies and blue fish... i find it hard to create a decent action when the rod isnt stiff... for macks and tunnies you usualy go for fast shore jigging... would you say the dialuna will be disturbingly flexible for fast shore jigging?

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smoothddd lol I dunno about disturbingly flexible...if you look closely at this video, you'll get a sense of how far the rod loads on a typical jigging motion. That's a 3/8oz jighead to 5" easy shiner...so approx 0.70oz total weight package. What I envision if you get the Dialuna MH is a rod that will handle slow-moderate jigging like a champ, and do well with slightly lighter jigs on fast jigging. That's obviously all conjecture, since I don't do that sort of jigging from shore. You can check out this video and their others, the technique intrigues me since it's obviously so equipment-dependent...esp the recovery of the rod tip imparting action to the jig: th-cam.com/video/it5Nbwxen-0/w-d-xo.html

      Anyone who has experienced the Dialuna 96ML, either spinning or baitcast model? Want to use it for spoons 18-25 gram. Does it have a fairly deep action (bending curve) or how would you describe it, moderate moderate/fast? It doesn't have to have a stiff tip for jerking, jigging because I usually fish (sea trout) with a steady retrieve, speed depening on water temperature with frequent spinn-stops and small twitches here and there. I guess the Labrax has a bit different action maybe with less bending curve, less parabolic action or?

    hi have you fished the dark mater ob from j and h tackle .tackle adviser 5/29/20 thinks its a great rod. i can't make up my mind between the dialuna and the dark mater ob have you had a chance to fish one? it's a mega bass shadow pangea suzuki clone.

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never fished the dark matter, but my opinion is there are no such things as true "clones," unless JandH can prove they sourced the blank that Megabass used in the Pangea. Further, between the Pangea and the Dialuna...I choose the Dialuna. I'm a fan of Shimano blanks. Their tech is pretty easy to follow. For roughly the same cost...I wouldn't even consider an OEM rod like the JandH over a Dialuna. Now, if I were buying a similar rod today, I would look at the Lunamis. The Dialuna is in the same realm as the Exprides, while the Lunamis is in the Poison Adrena category. But like the Expride...the Dialuna is just incredible value for what you get.

    Hi, i'm very interested to shimano dialuna, but i don't know what's the perfect cast action for me. I fish sea bass in a river with a strong current, with soft baits that usually range from 6 to 15 grams. I need a very sensitive but also very powerful rod because I have to pull the fish away from the rocks located on the bottom. The rod leght could be from 7 to 8 ft. What weight do you recommend? Is the cast stated truthful? I had seen dialuna ML 6-28 in the web markets but i don't know if it's perfect to me. Thank u

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      6g total weight (jig/hook + plastic) is very light, and if you are never going over 20g then I would look at the S86L. I cannot speak to power, but I would not hesitate to use 15lb leader on that setup.

      Neither of us have used the 106MH, I would go check it out in person and make a decision. I will say that the 96M is as heavy as I would use for the fishing I do, heavier and it stops being a one-handed jigging rod imo.

    which you will recommend? (i dont care about price)

    • @CookingandFishing
      @CookingandFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are very different blanks, and I'm not sure how much the AGS guides play into the feel of the rod. The Labrax is much faster action than the Dialuna. Not to say that the Dialuna is slow, but the Labrax has a similar feel as freshwater bass jig rods...just on a larger scale. The Dialuna is more versatile in terms of lures you can use...small plugs with treble hooks etc, along with single hook jigs. If you're only jigging fluke, either will work well...just depends on what you're after in terms of rod action.

    • @smoothddd
      @smoothddd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i hope we are on the same understanding
      action = where the rod bends (fast action means that only the tip of the rod bents etc..)

    Those rods might be awesome but I can't afford them. I have a bunch of Ugly Stiks with different lengths and actions. They're cheap enough to be affordable but they're tough. And to me they're plenty sensitive. I especially like the Lite Pro series. I use Penn reels for the same reason, tough and affordable. The more expensive stuff might be lighter or more sensitive but not enough to justify buying them for myself. I'm going to see if Ugly Stik has any long but light rods. My 8' surf rod is too heavy for light jigs.
    My biggest problem is that the flounder don't seem to be around my area at the moment.

    • @CookingandFishing

      The problem with ugly stiks is not just the lack of sensitivity - it's the glass content making for a slow and sloppy tip, that along with the heavy weight of the rod prevents you from imparting the right action to your 1/4oz jighead. I think the Dialuna 96M will work very well, but today if I were to purchase a new seabass rod from Japan it will be the Lunamis 90M, especially if you are going to do a lot jigging as opposed to just winding with minnow plugs. The 96M Dialuna is very nice, but the balance is a little tip heavy for light jigging - also the Lunamis technology (Monocoque, spiral core x etc) is VERY sensitive - I fish with the Poison Adrena with same technology and they are amazing rods.

What previous rods did you own that had the right action? You might like the various steelhead rods, which to me are way too soft, but you might find perfect. No!!! I brake last Sunday my 3 months young Dialuna S96M lunching a 27gr duel minnow!! (8/45gr CW)!
      And 6 weeks ago my nephew brake he’s Brand new Dialuna (10/56 gr CW) Dialuna at he’s 3th lunch with same style 27 gr minnow. !!!
      I see brake 2 Dialunas with a little minnow. This is crazy!! He become a new rod and I’m waiting what dealers says next week when he become my rod. We bought both at same dealer and vi the brake at similar points with just 2 or 3” difference. (Top rod part, around 1 foot from connection away). Seems a broken Dialuna is really common. I have find this videos looking for reviews for the next rod I want buy (Daiwa Labrax ags) but think at the 10/60 CW version.

    Hello great content! Im a boat bay fisherman focused on fluking. Check my channel... Have great rods/combos for boat. Yea dark matter, and jig bounce twinn power 4000, and accurist....Now I do have a black hole challenger bank 701 rod with a vs 50. Is it possible to use this set up for your shore fluking methodology?

      All too heavy unfortunately - check the newer videos I'm using mostly freshwater M/ML spinning rods and the new Labrax 90ML which is 4oz flat, paired to 2500/3000 sized Shimano reels - th-cam.com/video/beG9Z4pQgYg/w-d-xo.html

    you could even get the 4-32 model for the weight you cast.. lighter..

      It's not just casting payload, but jigging action + hook wire gauge etc. This is about as light in power as I'll go, and I've tried the ML to diminishing returns. Gripping the reel seat ahead of the reel stem...it's a perfect tip-neutral balance while jigging. My friend just picked up the MH, which I'll get to play around with in a few weeks. I might like that even better, though it's approaching the dreaded 6oz mark lol.

      @@CookingandFishing Excellent video. Please let me know if you think the 10ft MH is better than the 96M. I have the Megabass Shadow Pangea 106. I hated it because it is tip heavy and the action is moderate fast. I'm looking for a longest, lightest, fast action and most balanced rod to replace my Megabass rod.

      @@audiomacaudiomac5019 Any 10ft rod is going to be tip heavy, unless you balance it with a very heavy reel. The Dialuna 96m has a med-fast tip imo, and a tip-neutral balance with a Ballistic LT 4k. Now, my cousin's Labrax 9m AGS is better balanced, has a crisper tip action, but it's also 6" shorter. I think the 96M or MH Dialuna will be an improvement over the Megabass in either case.

      @@CookingandFishing Thank you for your recommendation. I will pick up the Dialuna 96M. I already bought the Ballistic LT 4k based on your recommendation here. Buttery smooth and light reel. Returned my VR50 with the line lay problem and saved me $300. Thanks again.
