  • We’ve got a lot of exciting new Trending Globally episodes coming up in the next few weeks and months, but this week we’re sharing an episode of another podcast from the Watson Institute: Mark and Carrie.
The show is hosted by political economist Mark Blyth and political scientist Carrie Nordlund. On each episode, they discuss, debate and, occasionally, make fun of the biggest headlines of the day. The conversations are always thought-provoking and informative, and while the topics are sometimes somber, the show is not.
On this episode, they discuss some of the factors shaping the 2024 U.S. elections, the state of the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, and what’s next for the U.K.’s Labour Party. They also ponder: is Mark too old for VR headsets?
Listen to more of Mark and Carrie and subscribe. (mark-and-carrie.captivate.fm/)

You 2 stopped posting on soundcloud back in 2021and I was so sad, I loved your show, ow I just stumbled across it here on YT by accident. I am so glad that you 2 are still doing the show! You've got one listener in Ukraine at least! 🙃

It's not lack of focus as much outrage fatigue. People have so many issues they deem important that they also grudgingly recognize that they have NO possibility of influencing resolution that they bounce from depressing concern to concern hoping for a glimmer of hope. This, of course, plays right into the hands of captive GOP and DEM media peddling fear and anger, as well as AI algorithms underpinning social media platforms designed to bombard people with their interests.

I haven’t heard this podcast for maybe 2 years now? I continue to be amazed about Carrie’s ignorance of news and facts that are widely circulating (e.g. uncommitted vote comparison with Obama). I would expect an academic, who claims to be an expert of politics to have a much more firm grip of teh events.

Is she playing dumb for Socratic purposes, or does Poly Sci really just not require "knowing things"?
