    Ah that sucks man. This is an absolute beast of an amplifier. 1400W bridged. 700W per channel stereo.

    The trick with repairing solid-state electronics is to be able to deduce what is NOT wrong from measurements at points which are accessible without dismantling the thing. In this case the possibility of there still being 'swarf' hidden under the output Q boards means it is desirable to see under them, but preliminary tests should determine whether or not you need to at all. This is electronics; not fixing cars. Measure power rails to ground first, assume nothing.

      I know. You can't measure power rails when there is a short. First thing to do is to remove the shorted device. As a number of devices had failed short, that was easier said than done.

    It seems funny how, Crown, decided to use so many components ( which just adds points of failure) in a product that would mostly be used as a "sound reinforcement" amplifier. There's usually a price point balance in design, balancing between the amount, and quality of components chosen, the complexity of the design, and the sale price, of course. I can't remember seeing so many points of failure in most other amps. Thank you for sharing your efforts and the info on this one, it seems a good one to "steer clear" of if someone has that chance.

      That's a really good point - thanks for that. It's almost as if Crown wants to sell more amps...

      Another brand goes down the drain in compare with their 70s, 80s amps. Can't see this amp going On The Road as way to complicated to service

      My father used to service crown amps through the 80's and 90's and around the late 90's early 2000's the original engineering department pretty much retired and the new engineering department had a completely different philosophy. The earlier crown amps are exceptionally low noise and well matched components percievably zero harmonic distoration. Harman who owns AKG, AMX, Arcam, Bang & Olufsen Automotive, Becker, BSS Audio, Crown, dbx, DOD Electronics, DigiTech, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, Lexicon, Mark Levinson, Martin, Revel, Soundcraft and Studer may have had a hand in the design philisophy change.

      @@disorderindminor you are correct about the changes around the time Harman took over. I believe they one wanted to make Crown accessable to everyone and two may well have outsourced the CE series to a lesser division or to another entity all together. The upper models were definitely not of this poor quality. As I said before so bad the dealers told customers to steer clear.

    I was thinking about half way through is this amplifier going to make it or become a donor, you did your best. The PCB must be of poor quality as I've seen more dirty and abused than this.

    The CE series was the worst amp Crown ever made. In this part of the world Crowns own dealers told customers to steer clear. They often sent them to brands such as Sunn. Does that pretty well sum up the CE situation ?

    This particular amp is a low end amp. It’s cheaper to buy another one. There dirt cheap on eBay.

      @@audionautica6843 I had a tough time looking for two components on those websites, the transistors from my amp show these numbers: N747 A42 AND MR83 P2D. The resistor has 0R4. When I enter those numbers on the searching part of the website they give me tons of options, How can I figure out which one is the one?

    • @audionautica6843
      @audionautica6843  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need to get the full part numbers from the service manual. I'm not sure how much experience you have with electronics, but this amp is not easy to work on, and unless you do have good electronics experience my recommendation would be not to.

    OOOOO-m-g!!!! These crown ce-1000/ce-2000 amps are some of THEE WORST amps to work on. I've seen a service manual and it's at LEAST an inch thick!!!! Pretty sure crown outsourced the design to china or japan. WAY to much smt in them! If you have a working model enjoy it while it lasts. If it breaks, sell it cheep to someone that can use it for parts and just buy a new amp, cuz none of them are worth even the most gifted techs time!!!!
