While you gave it your best, it is hard to believe a knife manufacture would use regular steel for the internal parts. They had to know it would rust in short order. But good effort refurbishing it...

first of all, it will only rust if it's neglected. second, how can you tell what type of steel it is? even stainless steels will rust.

Nope, back then most knife are made form carbon steel which is easy to rust.
