I'll never forget the first time I botched the shot. After multiple grueling attempts, I had found the building that contained the sniper rifle out of pure luck ( I didn't look at the photo's or really listen to Diana, I was like 10 at the time ). My tv was especially dark for whatever reason so my sight wasn't 100% clean, but I wasn't about to let that stop me. I aim through the window and I spot the men wearing general uniform, but one of them just stands out especially to me. He isn't moving, yet his posture is perfect. As if he was begging me to take him down. I instantly get suspicious of him. I look at his hand and notice the pen in his right hand, further adding to my suspicion. Next I check to see if he has any cigars or ash-trays around him, which he doesn't. By this point in time I was barely paying any attention to the other people, my sights were locked onto this guy. Finally I look to see if he has any hair and I find that he is in-fact bald. I'm 100% positive that this has to be my target. I wait until my aim gets steadier and go for a shot right between the eyes. Before I fire, I start getting excited and thinking to myself "Finally, after replaying this stage for so long! I'll finally move on! I can't wait to kill this bastard!" I'm practically sweating with anticipation when I finally pull the trigger. I watch the glass shatter and everyone immediately jump up. Everyone except my target. Yet, he isn't dead. He hasn't even budged from his spot and I am 100% positive I made a headshot. It wasn't until closer examination that I realized I did hit my target. A fatal headshot indeed. Unfortunately, you cannot take the life of an inanimate object. I shot the fucking painting.

At first, the map of this mission seemed to me as a stereotypical vision of Russia by a foreigner. But, in fact, the atmosphere of winter St. Petersburg of the late 90s is very well conveyed in it. Collapsing facades of historic buildings, dirty snow and anxiety. Of course, in reality the city was less dull, there were shops, stalls, bars. The police and the FSB did not wear earflaps and AKS-74U, at that troubled time it was difficult to meet them on the streets of this crime-ridden city. Well, the Pushkin building very poorly fits into the thematic landscape of St. Petersburg. It is too Soviet, brutal and dark. It could be built in Moscow during the Soviet regime, but not in the center of St. Petersburg) In general, the developers have done an excellent job with the available technologies and knowledge of the cultural capital of Russia. Greetings from St. Petersburg!
Laughed so hard when that guy entered when you took the shot! A room with an unfamiliar bald dude and a gun on the ground right after you hear a shot, the response:hmmmm XD
10:15 Sudden shot fired and General Dead - Couldn't have been the suspicious bald person standing beside the open window, as his SVD Sniper Rifle is lying on the floor.
I don't think anybody knows this but there is a 5.45mm Pistol in Level 2 which people think is only available in Mission 5 (Invitation to a party with that Russian dude). There is a road block at the far left end of the map (the one near the apartment building) with 3 soilders and then an additional 1 soilder. The 5.45mm Pistol is with one of those 3 soilders. I found out about this when I played this level with Mass Murderer Ranking 😁😈
this game is amazing and this mission is my favorite. really does make u feel like a true assassin infiltrated deep behind enemy lines in russia during a cold snowy winter. too bad i cannot find that feeling in any of the newer games these days
My all time favorite hitman ever I’ll never forget playing this on my OG Xbox on a Friday night during the winter and it caused me to immerse myself so deep in this game.
Smooth operator. I love the thunderous orchestra in the soundtrack. It elevated the game a lot for me. The complete lack of music made absolution a weaker experience, in my opinion.
Why do I find these videos so soothing? Is it the music? My childhood Nostalgia? Knowing that he won't die or get caught? Idk, but either way, thanks for sharing
Nor is firing a sniper rifle one room over from a guard, only to drop the rifle and turn the other way like nothing happened when he bursts in the door, apparently. lol
Man I remember I had SO much trouble with this mission. So attempt#1, i get to the building and i realize i dont have a sniper rifle. Then i attempt to eliminate the target with a silenced pistol. I manage to break the glass, but no kill. Now guards are swarming me and i am killed. Next attempt, I bring a sniper with me after much hassle, (killing the guards in the square where the meeting takes place) and then I wait for Diana’s Info, and take the shot. Im giddy right up until that moment when Diana told me that I had eliminated the wrong target.
The music cues are so awesome. Another thing largely missing from Absolution. My fav part of Hitman is calmly walking away from a hit when the music kicks in.

I was able to fire just one round with the 9mm and take down the general right by the window.
