It can be explained as, since Petrol engines are spark ignition based engine hence “S” in API SN signifies that the oil is for Petrol engine and A, B, C …..F…..M,N signifies the genaration of Oil (A being the oldest and N being the latest).
The new category of oil is introduced when there are improvements in performance parameters of Oil or engines .For Petrol Engine oils latest generation of Engine oil is SN (introduced in year 2010).
In case of Petrol engines usually the latest category of engine oils includes the performance parameters of the earlier oils also. And hence a latest generation engine oil can be used in old engines also.

Latest standard as per API now is SP launched in 2020, which is only available for fully synthetic oils used in cars.....API SN is old and was launched way back in 2010...even API SN+ was launched after that in 2018. But API SP is not available for bikes in India as of now. But these oils are backwards compatible , so we can use API SN in SM/SL engines too without any problem.However, the reverse is not true and must be avoided strictly.

The latest grade of engine oil for bike is SNplus. In india only castrol provide it but fact is no bike manufacture has recomended it in their owner manual. All BS6 bike has been recomended SN and it available as semi synthetic or fully synthetic.

Use Amsoil 10W30 engine oil with liqui moly mos shooter 20ml tube...after 100km ur bike will super smooth 👌 😎 don't use fully synthetic oil below 300cc paise waste, synthetic oil is used for high comparison engine like 11.
