- Apparently it's time for my annual internet failure and according to my ISP, the earliest they can get an engineer over to check it out is Saturday. Despite not having a working connection, I did manage to get around to my friend Eddies' house with a USB stick so I could use his connection to upload the video I had planned for today. Here it is, a little later than expected.

Thargoids interdict a ship behaving oddly. Ship flails about on exiting hyperspace and runs into them and they recognize it as piloted by The Mighty Jingles.
With ship's behavior explained, Thargoids then decide its safer to let Jingles leave first .
"No, he's just going to sit there." Well yeah Jingles, you just flew into him. He's waiting for you to exchange insurance information with him.

In this episode we observe Jingles committing a Jingles Landing into/onto a Thargoid ship among a staring contest afterwards. 10/10 content haha

Ramming speed
Actually, Jingles, you got the relationship between the guardians and the thargoid wrong.
The guardians were a sort of precourser and they were found by the thargoids, but the guardians beat them back with a swarm of AI controlled weapons. But not long after, the guardians started infighting using the AI weapons. the AI’s controlling the weapons became sentient and slipped their bounds at one point and, sick of fighting the guardians wars enacted a very thorough and brutal purge on the guardians, driving the guardians to extinction.
The reason the thargoids hate guardian tech with a passion is probably because the thargoids suffered their first and only unconditional defeat to the guardians as a race.
As a side note, no one knows what happened to those AI constructs after the guardian’s extinction.
Thargoids are the oldest race known. The guardians basically found themselves in the same situation as humanity, that is they discovered fire, moved to the stars and found all these barnacles full of useful meta alloys and the thargoids got annoyed at what they saw as expansion into their own territory by these young upstarts. The real difference is that the thargoid got their chitinous butts kicked and humanity has at most managed to keep them at bay. Also, there seems to to be a different level of aggression from the thargoids vs humanity. They seem much nicer now.
Thargoids predate the guardians by millions of years
@@MNewton I do not know if the original games are considered canon, but in elite 1 Thargoids were completely driven off from human space, to the point where in Frontier FE they were on the verge of extinction. The player had the choice of saving their race, or wiping them out, and after that they left human space for good.

@@Schugger1 Ahh, for the good ol' days, when a person's word was considered good until they were exposed as a liar, then never believed/trusted again. Thus everyone had a MIGHTY reason to protect their reputation by always speaking the truth. Especially since everyone with a minimal education knows 1's and 0's can be changed leaving no evidence of such in this electronic age.

When I had seen that the Old Gnome Overlord has not posted anything 9 hours ago I was wondering a couple of things
1- He is suffering from Rita catching him with another lass.

Did anyone else notice that while jingles was playing one of the audio logs, his vehicle registered a frame shift drive charge?
Must've been one of the loitering ships he saw earlier. In my experience they are at almost every site you visit. They come and go really, Dav's Hope is crawling with them.
Elite ranked explorer here. It was most likely one of the two ships circling the site. Those sentries tend to randomly jump out from time to time.
Getting Dead Space vibes from this with the monolith and the dig site. Watch out for necromorphs!

I heard no D sound. I did hear a British accent with a hard G sound (as in go or ground).
Note to NASA, Roscosmos, ESA or anyone else that eventually sends explorers or mining teams out into the black: Your teams need to watch Lord of The Rings and Alien as part of their basic training. Every time something goes to shit it always starts with "we found (this) during excavation/exploration and am taking it back to the ship/station/outpost"

Last comment, I've played Dead Space and seen Aliens - nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure. Curiosity killed the cat and I prefer to be a live coward than a dead hero.
Apparently trying to scoop up bits of wreckage from a ship the Thargoids blew up makes them a bit upset. I learnt this the hard way.
You dont solve a murder mystery just by finding the crime scene, just saying.
Quickest way is to just jump to conclusions and blame the most defenseless ones.
I've never played Elite before, but Thargoids really tickles my fancy. They look and sounds so cool, but yet creepy at the same time. I want more of that in other games too, the sounds design in particular is so good and effective. I also really like sites like the one you found, with some mystery of something bad happening. Too bad it actually stopped there, because I would've like to followed mysteries like this a bit longer (kinda like with Subnautica)
Guardians weren't a precursor race, they were a separate race that fought a war with the thargoids and won. The guardians integrated their AI with their brains, the AI was then able to read their minds including guardian's fear of the ai and it taking over and the feeling to control it this led to a self fulfilling prophercy where the AI and guardians fought a civil war destroying the Guardians. A religious subgroup of the Guardians had refused to integrate with the ai and left disappearing into the galaxy before the civil war - nobody knows what happened to them or the AI that won the war (although guardian ruins are guarded by the odd AI bot)
Is a war between two different civilizations really a civil war ?

Im still fairly new to this game but man do I regret not getting in it sooner! My God this game is incredible....Theres just so much to do and explore....Not to mention the sound design, Im a sucker for a good background comms radio chatter and simulation already

That planet was giving me Dead Space Marker vibes. Mining crew unearth a ancient, alien monolith. The structure glows and pulsates. People start going missing and/or crazy. All of this happening in a far flung system well out of the way of any star chart or map.
Oh yeah, getting some major vibes.

Those 2 other ships in orbit, are probably in Solo mode and their ships are set to fly around while the player is farming stuff.

Jingles, the thargoid may look pretty, but they don't like getting kisses.
The Guardians were not destroyed by the Thargoids, they successfully defeated the Thargoids in a massive war. They were then destroyed by their own AI, which basically got fed up with their in-fighting and decided the only way to have a peaceful existence was to eradicate them. The Guardians themselves were physically not too dissimilar to humans - oxygen breathing etc - unlike the Thargoids which are Ammonia breathers - also the Thargoids were already a space faring species by the time the Guardians encountered them - so the Guardians were probably not precursors, most likely the Thargoids existed first.

Exploration at its finest
The Guardians were wiped out by machines they created to serve them i believe they are called the constructs, it isnt known if they are still around.
In this episode we see Jingles fly 800 light-years to because his ship lacked a SRV. All this while there was a special on Planetary Vehicle Bays in the next system over.
Perhaps he did not have the spare room to install a new Planetary Vehicle Bay in that particular ship build.
You would think the SRV would be driven in Telepresence like the fighters.
Thargoids won't care if you have any AX equipment on board (scanner, weapons) they also don't care about Guardian modules (Cannons, boosts). The Thargoids tend to take offence with you if you're carrying things like Thargoid hearts~
I hear having a point defense mounted on top of the ship is effective at beating back, say, guardian missiles.

Since Jingles is not sure that this was cause by Thargoids or Guardians, it is possible that the green fog he described last time using words such as "nurgle" is actually caused by Plague Marines. This would of course mean that the Death Guard could be involved, and begs the question: what happens when the forces of Grandpa Nurgle meets Thargoids? Will there be enough gift giving to attract Blood Ravens? And what if ork vehicles are the only things Jingles cannot perform a Jingles landing with?
Is this a Lord of the Rings reference? With the transmission about death, and the mysterious things?
Not at all long into the video - and we have Jingles misidentifying star systems like he misidentifies boats and tanks: "i can go to the HIP 1183 system" targets HR 1183 :P
Blast damage? Looks like seismic survey charges to me. All this video needs is a creaky sign saying "Hadley's Hope"
AI ships will only attack if provoked or if you are carrying anything that's valuable.

Gave me a start when you shot at that mining tool. I have come across a similar thing with a Xenoarchaeology site with a woman recounting the fate. Similar ending there too. It is creepy until you realise nothing is going to happen then I felt let down. Its a bit of a tease which I hope as the game progresses (Odyssey?) we can learn more.
