It is really neat. All I can figure out is 1. It was taking to much of the Gerber MP 400 share in profit. 2. Maybe it was cheaper or seen as more competitive to make a butterfly opening plier as in the Crucial, and NXT.

I hope they were honest in the description and showed you a photo of the misaligned knife blade before purchasing this. I recently purchased a stainless first generation Surge from a guy in Nevada, I won it in a bid on ebay. The pictures were decent. I opened up the package and the outside implements were caked in red mud. I messaged him three times, no response. Two days later I sent it back and got a refund. I expect to clean used tools that's fine with me. I get the alcohol, q- tips, toothpicks out and oil it later. I didn't spend $90 to have him use it on a camping trip and send it to me from the bush. If I'm going to dirty it, its going to be cleaned at the end of the day. I found another one out in California. No problem there.

I think they did. To bad about the first Surge. eBay can be hit or miss. I've only had about one or two really bad experiences compared to my hundreds of good experiences so I keep chancing it LOL!

Glad you finally got one! :) There are two Gerber bit drivers, one for Phillips screwdrivers (except Octane!), the other for the medium flathead screwdriver (works on Octane) but the latter has become untraceable.
Even though I really like the Octane, I still have to say that its wire cutter is bad (non-jointed jaws).

@@diezelle57I buy them ten at time on Amazon they fit Leatherman’s without the bit exchanger, Gerber’s, Nextool’s, Mossy Oak’s, all the better Chinese multi tool brands and even one that I bought from Germany. I buy a set of bits, 2 1/2” extension
and a small steel 1/4” ratchet and make a kit for less then Leatherman’s bits & adapter, the same for Gerber’s, SOG’s, Nextool’s and every multi tool I have in my collection. At first I tried the Craftsman’s socket but it didn’t fit as well. I also tried a off brand the same thing so now I have bag full of sockets.😂 The bits any brand the small set of Horsey is what I started using because of price difference and selection I bought them from eBay they two different types.

Gerber always seems to discontinue their good models. The Octane isn’t a bad tool. Maybe it didn’t sell very well for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @hvacbudget8600

It might not have. I wonder if it was to close in design to the Mp 400.

Well, I just can’t agree that this such a great Multitool. Picked one up after Diezelle was so enthusiastic about it (and I respect his many critical reviews), but I consider it to be cheaply made. Doesn’t feel encouraging strong, like a Spirit or a Crunch. I‘ll never become a Gerber fan, I‘m afraid.

No problem. Obviously as I detailed in the video mine was damaged so they aren't perfect. Sometimes there's things about tools that some of us like and others don't. For the size class would you prefer the Leatherman juice?

Gerber do make great affordable & sometimes with less thought of design but enjoyed by blue collar workers. If it breaks usually after decades of usage (wirth the investment) just get another one or upgrade model. Solution found.!
