So this movie came out months after Pierce Brosnan starred in a film of a similar genre, The Thomas Crown Affair. And while Brosnan's production company references his Irish heritage ("Irish Dreamtime,") Entrapment spends a lot of time in Scotland, which was clearly written into the script for Connery. It makes me wonder if Connery himself felt a kind of rivalry with Brosnan--who was at the time James Bond 007.
The most annoying think about Y2K is that a lot of us put in a lot of hard work making sure that nothing terrible happened, and then had to put up with big mouths (especially the captains of industry who'd delayed remediation until the last possible minute because it wasn't a business priority) claiming the whole thing was a hoax because nothing terrible happened. That and the "head for the hills" loonies of course.
her whole body actually. Back at that time, one of the most beautiful and sexy women in hollywood. Up until recently with the plastic work, she was still amazingly beautiful into her mid years.
"Soup to Nuts" is a reference to Roman banquets, which always started with a soup course and ended with fruits and nuts. That's why it means "the whole thing."
I watched this in the theaters back in 1999. In 2001, I actually lived in Malaysia for a little while. I even got to see the Petronas Towers near the end of my trip, which was a nice treat. I wish I could show photos/videos, but digital cameras weren't readily available to me back then.
I only just noticed "ft. Catherine Zeta-Jones' butt" in the video title. 🤣 Like it was a guest star. Maybe it should've won Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards that year.
"Soup to Nuts" is a reference to a multi-course dinner...soup being the first course, and nuts being the last, so something that is "soups to nuts" is complete and thorough.
Yup, Zeta Jones slinking through those lasers was the shot in the trailer that got everyone's attention. That fact that it also had Connery told me this would be a fun watch, and indeed it was.
Thanks for reacting to this Jen! One of my favourite heist movies! This and Thomas Crown came out around the same time and I remember watching them both in the cinema.
There’s a really cute and sweet movie with Catherine Zeta Jones and Tom Hanks called “The Terminal “! Toms character lands at the airport just as his country is over thrown and he’s stuck in the airport and he runs into Catherine who’s a stewardess and a bunch of cute side characters including Stanley Tucci!!!!
Great reaction, Jen. Heist films which I recommend: "The Thomas Crown Affair" both the 1968 original and the 1999 remake both are excellent, "The Anderson Tapes" 1971 Sean Connery, "Confidence" 2003, "Taking of Pelham 123" 1974, "Now You See Me" 2013, "Out of Sight" 1998, "Jackie Brown" 1997 Tarantino, "Thief" 1981. There are many more but these are good ones to continue with, Jen.
I'd like to add the original "The Italian Job". Way more fun than the remake. And the song "The Self-Preservation Society" is an almost uncureable ear-worm.
I remember the hype surrounding the movie here in Malaysia back when it was coming out. Everyone was excited to see the movie set in Kuala Lumpur. Though there was abit of controversy when they show the establishing shot with them on the boat because that water village is from another State altogether and is not representative of KL at all.
The phrase "soup to nuts" means "the whole thing", referring to a seven course dinner, from the first course (soup) to the last (nuts) Thibadeaux was played by Ving Rhames, who played Marcellus in Pulp Fiction. A couple other heist films worth checking out are The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) and Tower Heist (2011) Another movie I'd love to see a reaction to is Out of Sight (1998), with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. Not a heist movie, just a great film.
Can always count on you to give a fun reaction. A couple of favorite heist movies you could check out are The Thomas Crowne affair which also stars a former Bond actor. And the Italian Job remake.
Thank you. Mr. Connery was in another heist movie earlier in his career, "The First Great Train Robbery" (1978), also known as "The Great Train Robbery" in the U.S..
Lasers are invisible (this movie got that right), anything that makes them visible will set off the alarm. The worst offender is one of the Ocean's movies where the lasers are both visible and moving; not how security lasers work :p
The first brainstorm session of this movie was basically "Catherine Zeta-Jones in a tight bodysuit" on a whiteboard. Then they had to craft an entire story around that.
37:42 "If there are more movies like this, please do let me know." For that, your best bet is probably another heist film from the very same year that also stars a James Bond actor: The Thomas Crown Affair (1999).
Entrapment and The Thomas Crown Affair with Pierce Brosnan & Rene Russo were both released in 1999. Similar premise, suave art thief & seductive female investigator.
Hi Jenn I loved this film. I’ve been to the two towers in Malaysia. It’s really nice. If u want another really really good heist film watch. The score (directed by Frank Oz (Yoda) & stars Robert Denero & Edward Norton.
Add THIEF to your heist list, James Caan, Jim Balushi. Michael Mann's directorial debut. Cool old school tech. Also, The Score with Edward Norton, Robert Deniro & Marlon Brando, and of course The Italian Job...HUGE ensemble cast!!
"Yesss ! Diagrams !" Please never change Jen :). (fun one this, Big Tam still convinces as a leading man at nearly 70, both leads are great, the chemistry manages to stay on the right side of weird and heists are very much heisted, what's not to like :)
Seeing this movie in a theater was a fantastic experienced. I am afraid of heights just as you, a pretty smart girl. I was having physical reactions to the movie, I was having pain in bottom of my feet and it shot up through my whole legs and I actually flinched hard! Didn't smoke but I should have. Better not, I would really trip out on the high wire scene .
I'm pretty sure that guy with the glasses and goatee at the Kuala Lumpur tower is the same guy who worked inside the Langley vault in Mission Impossible.
The laser scene is one of those moments where you know everyone involved realized they (1) had the trailer locked in and (2) the movie was going to make a TON of $$$. I figure everyone just went home that day early, to relax and enjoy the moment of security.
Jen! You must do a reaction for Thomas Crown Affair (99). No youtuber has done it yet? AND it's your type of flick! DOUBLE-AND the soundtrack is AMAZING.
Sir Sean Connery at this point of his near 'half a century' career. This was the first of his last 4 movies and also as producer. Catherine Zeta-Jones aka Miss Michael Douglas in one of 2 films for 1999. I think it's only fair that when we see Connery in a movie like this, he's gonna be a kinda 'Bond'. It's still part of his shine as an actor and paired up with someone like CZJ, you know it's gonna be some kinda hot. Definitely a 'new age' take on heist films with the tactics, tools, techniques, people (partner/enemy) and knowing what's to be taken for the right price. Very stylish for the genre. Like a well-tuned Swiss watch changing time zones on the tick. The plot at times leads and misleads which is good too. These action sequences are extreme fun without being violent. I saw this near the end of my senior year in high school after my final exams on opening weekend. It was just like watching Sean in 007 mode again and like i said, unavoidable. CZJ has got it all going on in this. You really can't keep your eyes off her. The song by Seal, "Lost My Faith" is a good ballad and Connery & CZJ appeared in the music video.
Jen you were locked in for This heist movie! Luv the CZJ outfit! 🐯Grrrr... Wow, you know it's going to be a good movie when you have Sean Connery, CZ Jones, Ving Rames and a heist! That Laser scene had me sweating, so Intense and... Anyway they stole the $$$💰lol 😂 great heist movie Jen I loved it! When's "Thomas Crown Affair" or " Tequila Sunrise" getting watched? More old heist movies! Thanks for sharing Jen ❤️💛
Such a fun heist movie. Especially for the boys...and the ladies of a certain persuasion. Also Ving Rhames, "I think she's a 6 but would mighty fine in a 4" (Or something to that effect)
A very similar movie you may like is "the Thomas Crown Affair" with Peirce Brosnan. He did a few really good spy action movies after bond and you can just say "that is bond, he just is using a fake name" and several of the movies work as sequels for Bond. Thomas crown has a very strong female co-lead and is one of the most captivating thrillers with little to no violence you will ever find. ( I LOVE violent movies, the worse the better, but it is refreshing to be thrilled without that being a crutch--that's skill. Any movie is tense when people are being cut to ribbons and smashed to bits, but a phycological conflict is difficult and impressive to turn into something like Thomas Crown Affair. )
21:45 - FINAL 'HEIST' WILL NOT BE THE THIRD, THERE HAS BEEN SIX ROBBERIES UP TO THIS MOMENT IN THE MOVIE. This movie cleverly links a chain of thefts, each successive theft dependent on the preceding one.. (1) PAINTING stolen and mailed by Connery. This was shown at the beginning. (2) PAINTING re-stolen by Connery. (3) COMPUTER CHIPS stolen (off screen) by Connery to frame Jones. (4) LUGGAGE stolen (off screen) by Connery to plant computer chip in luggage. (5) VASE/MUSEUM PLANS stolen by Jones as a test set by Connery. (6), MASK stolen by Jones/Connery. At this point in the movie, Jones reveals that retinal details will be 'stolen' thus becoming the seventh. And there's probably going to be more necessary little thefts before the final heist is completed. Each a chain reaction.
In the end, MacDougall even fooled Thibadeau. He gave him four proto-type super-chips, which he said were $5,000,000 apiece. Remember, he stole five, valued at $4,000,000 apiece.
Soup to Nuts references a Full Course Meal from Soup/Salad on down the list eventually to coffee or aperitif, often served with nuts - ergo, it means 'the whole thing with all the trimmings'. Mac is distracted by her, well - Assets. I'll recommend the remake of THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (1999), which is so much better than the original. - starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo (cameos of Faye Dunaway).
More heist movies to add to your playlist can be To Catch A Thief, The Great Train Robbery, the Wild Bunch, both Thomas Crown Affair (I prefer the 90s version), Sneakers and Tower Heist.
Hudson Hawk with Bruce Willis is a heist comedy or well not a straight comedy but it's very very light hearted and doesn't take itself seriously at all.
20:20 - BANK HEIST DETAILS REVEALED FOR THE FIRST TIME - The first person we see during CZJ's voiceover regarding the bank computer security procedure is a bearded man with spectacles crossing his arms. This man is the same person Tom Cruise needed to avoid during his attempt to steal the 'NOC list' in the first 'Mission Impossible' movie..
6:34 Yes people on December 31st 1999 didn't know if Y2K was really going to happen because they were too stupid to realize Toyko is 22 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. In the context of the film is actually does make sense because they're in Kuala Lumpur at the climax.
----- @jenmurrayxo ----- - Thanks for the heads up... I've watched a lot of your reactions thus far, but somehow missed that one. Can't blame you for crushing they're quite handsome. -----
Curious to see this reaction, i've not watched the film since it came out but i remember two things about it, one that it was a bit naff and the second was that they got the definition or the details of what entraptment is/how it works wrong. Not sure if i'm remembering that correctly though.
The meaning of soup to nuts. The first course is soup traditionally. Then appetizers, mains, then desert, then after desert people would have nuts. Thus full service is soup to nuts.
I’m with you on the acrophobia, Jen. I didn’t find out that I was incredibly afraid of heights until high school. My school typically went to Kings Island amusement park at the beginning of the summer for the day. They have a 1/3 replica of The Eiffel Tower, and my friend and I were going to go up the stairs to the 50-foot high platform. I made it to about 1/4 of the way up when I totally froze, and couldn’t make my legs move another centimeter higher. My friend was about 3 flights above me before he noticed that I wasn’t next to him. He came back to me, and saw that I was seriously pale and sweating profusely, so we decided to go back down. I practically ran down the stairs, and almost kissed the ground when I finally got there.
I live and am stationed in New York, but in 2005 I worked for a Company that had their Asian headquarters in those towers in Kuala Lumpur. My business trip there was very nice. But I would have given my left ... to have met CZJ when I was there. I said a 'clean' version of that statement to the Company receptionist there (who was half Malaysian and half Indian). Too bad I'm married, because she reached out to me more than once asking when I would be back.
The German title translates to tempting/alluring/enticing trap. I remember being inthe US around that time and trying to translate that movie title because I had no idea what it was calle in English. The reply I gotwas "sounds like a woman"... yep. Zeta-Jones was a great cast there. Love the movie for the twists.

Try Blackhat. Not a heist movie but has some of the same vibes as this.
Also Swordfish, Sneakers, ...
@jennmurrayxo. I love your commentary to this and every movie u watch. U r so down to earth and so sweet
Catherine’s butt should have won an Oscar for best supporting actor.
her whole body actually. Back at that time, one of the most beautiful and sexy women in hollywood. Up until recently with the plastic work, she was still amazingly beautiful into her mid years.
Are you assuming her butt's gender?????
it was definitely supporting her well
Jen seems to appreciate it in the thumbnail..
It's pretty much the only thing I remember about the movie.
"Soup to Nuts" is a reference to Roman banquets, which always started with a soup course and ended with fruits and nuts. That's why it means "the whole thing."
Rest in peace to the late iconic actor Sean Connery. One of the most beloved actors of all time
The Saint and the Itallian job are some good heist movies
Yes. But the original, not the remake
If you ask a cop what their favorite movie is and they refuse to tell you, it's Entrapment.
I watched this in the theaters back in 1999. In 2001, I actually lived in Malaysia for a little while. I even got to see the Petronas Towers near the end of my trip, which was a nice treat. I wish I could show photos/videos, but digital cameras weren't readily available to me back then.

I never knew, thanks!
Was also a Marx Brothers short/film.
@@danielhoehne801 Three Stooges

I haven't watched this yet, I just clicked to congratulate Jen for the hilarious thumbnail 🤣 She's such a charmer!!!
About time someone reacted to this film!
Yes, we need more heist movies reacted to it's a great genre.
I have a couple heist movies to recommend.
1. The Italian Job
And
2. Money Train.
Both very enjoyable heisting.
Thanks for reacting to this Jen! One of my favourite heist movies! This and Thomas Crown came out around the same time and I remember watching them both in the cinema.
There was also an earlier Thomas Crown Affair, with Steve McQueen, from the late-60s.
There’s a really cute and sweet movie with

Heist films which I recommend:

"The Anderson Tapes" 1971 Sean Connery,

"Now You See Me" 2013,
"Out of Sight" 1998,

But don't forget about the movie 'The Sting(1973)', it's even loosely based on real events.

- Thanks for the heads up...
I've watched a lot of your reactions thus far, but somehow missed that one.
Can't blame you for crushing they're quite handsome.

Honestly, the thumbnail for this video is the only thing I remember about this movie 😂
Catherine Zeta Jones. She ducks beneath lazers. Whoahhhhhhhhhhh
HEIST! HEIST! HEIST!
Jen and her HEISTS!
Ten out of ten thumbnail 👍
This reminds me a lot of Thomas Crown Affair. You would love it!
