Regarding sanctioned athletes, Nigeria does have a notable amount of positives over the years. Potentially related. To the first part of this video, trust me it's not just Reddit. When ever any lifting video get's shared on Instagram pages like HOH or Bleacher Report the comments are always super ignorant.

The Werksan video Natalie Burgener (nee Wolfolk) was a 2008 Olympian, I would hope she had a pretty good overhead position. Lance Frye (multiple junior and senior team member) is one of the guys "struggling" to get the barbell in the truck.
Bro, you are so right about the first part of the video. Places like Facebook, users leave ignorant comments without reading the article either trying to be funny, or look smart. That’s exactly what your Slalom video point reminds me of.
Told my house mate to join my beginner weightlifting classes (we focus on proper breathing and bracing and fundemental movements with pvc pipes and some easy circuits at the end). She said it sounds awesome but she doesnt want to ''get too muscular or have her legs blow up''. Made me sad and I have heard this SO many times. "that would be called." - That only proves how much bullshit is in weightlifting judging. I say if a guy is standing there with the bar locked out overhead, it's a good lift.
About the comments on the slalom thing, I will never understand why people make those assumptions, like if I'm watching a sport or something I know nothing about, and then they do something unexpected or that doesn't make sense to me, my first assumption isn't "Why are they doing that, wow they must suck." it's "Huh that must be the best way if a professional is doing that, I wonder why that's better."
There was a weightlifter from Africa that trained under Tim Swords about 20 years ago that was even more jacked. He lifted in a few US Nationals... maybe someone else will remember his name. Unbelievable physique.

The skiing example is more about the abnormal rulset. “Fans”/supporters of an event/sport tend to accept what their interest has morphed into; regardless of if it defies the rules original intent. You’d probably agree with the equivalent “casual’s” reaction to the lockout in weightlifting.
