Lord is an awesome villain. But he was best as Sensei. Kind and caring, swore off fighting. I was very sad to see him return evil as it felt like they just wasted his development as a good guy. We’ll have to see where they take Garmadon in the future.

I'm not the only one who thought it's so stupidly hilarious that legit every character half the time only freaks out about Garmadon because he has four arms, right? Like when he was on the bounty to help save Lloyd after he got captured by the Serpentine in the first season and Kai just being overprotective and jealous yet only saying he doesn't trust Garmadon fully because he has four arms
Because jet black skin and glowing red eyes are natural traits of course
That was kind of a running gag throughout the show. Samukai was the first ever character to have four arms. General Kozu's entire character development boiled down to just him having four arms. Then they just forgot about it by the time of Skybound, literally not a single person addressed that Nadakhan had four arms (I was expecting Jay or Kai to drop some random joke about it, but nope).

(Possibly?) Hot take: I think it would've been more interesting if we'd kept Sensei Garmadon in the show than Wu. I've always found him to be a lot more caring for the team, even beyond Lloyd (especially in season 4, seriously, Wu, what were you doing?). He was always a lot more than just another evil overlord to celebrate the defeat of - he was a good father and a wise man in a way that contrasted with his own evil, and that made us really feel for him when he has to leave his son and ultimately feel much happier when he gets freed.
Aside from that, I also think he's a lot more funny than Wu? I love Wu as much as anybody but you have to admit that Garmadon's theatre kid shenanigans are absolutely iconic. He's also one of the few characters in the show that makes fun of the absolutely insane scenarios we have because this is Ninjago we're watching ("Why must everything have so many weapons?!" "Behold, the golden ninja").
Besides, most of the team already had stereotypically 'good' powers. Why not introduce a character that's been through a lot of dark things, both literally and metaphorically, and bounce the main cast off him in a way that challenges their assumptions about the world and forces their characters to keep developing past, what, season 4? I absolutely agree with the writers that the ninja didn't really need two Sensei, so why not keep the one who had more to teach? (Plus, I think it would've hit a lot harder and would've been a much ballsier move if Wu was the one to die).
I cannot understate how annoyed I am that the writers decided to bring him back in season 8 onward and tried to play the big bad evil overlord thing straight, and then threw him out of the main cast the second he looked like he was actually going to develop past that into some semblance of his old self. It feels like the writers completely missed that this video is what we enjoyed about Garmadon, and we never quite made it back to that level.
Most of the things you said are true, the reason they kept Wu and not Garmadon could be because of marketing, Wu is one of the faces of the franchise, Garmadon is too but only in his evil form, the good one unfortunately is not, season 4 was originally supposed to be the end of his story but the movie forced them to bring him back
@@vesha6274 Yeah, I guess that's the downside of being a show that relies heavily on marketing, though I'd argue even then the writers probably could've just kept Garmadon's evil form and have him be a good person (seriously that would've looked so cool). Or even if they stuck with bringing him back, II also think it's sort of a shame the post-movie evil Garmadon just wasn't as fun as, say, season 2, where he was at the height of his 'evil'? We get about 2 moments about him in this video versus like the other 20 from season 1.
I’ve actually began to wonder what it would’ve been like if Wu was the one who went evil and Garmadon was the ninja’s main sensei? Obviously, Lloyd would’ve never been an antagonist (or…I guess at least _try_ to be one) and Lloyd would be fighting his uncle instead of his dad. The story would be differ a lot and I wonder if it would be good or not.
@@firefly5934 Personally I like the idea of Garmi as a sensei because he dealt with evil on a personal level, which made for some really funny and touching moments with the team. There's not much that could really be said about what the actual writers would've done about it, though it's certainly a fun writing prompt (and we would've had a sensei with a much cooler name on the shoe's title card). One thing I think would have definitely happened is Lloyd getting a lot more development - some of his most emotional moments coming with his interactions with his dad in season 1 - rather than somewhat of an afterthought to the green ninja prophecy.

Let's take a moment to appreciate how much of a good father Garmadon is. Even though he's been completely corrupted by the Great Devourer's bite he still does everything in his power to avoid having to fight his own son. Sure he tries to sabotage his training and hurt the other ninja, his only friends, but that's better than the alternative which is literally child abuse
Garmadon’s sacrifice is so sad. He’s finally free of the Devourer’s venom and getting to bond with Lloyd, and then yeah nope he’s dead ;-;
Lloyd seeing him in the cursed realm also made me really emotional
And then _Harumi_ decided to do _that_
He was a good man in the Departed Realm and then, yeah, nope, every ounce of good, memories of bonding with his family, all of that? In the toilet, now go hurt your son
And then his moment in March of the Oni looking at a photo of his old self and contemplating life-

I like to believe sensei Garmadon (Dragon side) is still in the departed realm while his Oni side (Lord) was ressurected. Like Mistaké, he could understand emotion. I also believe that the devourers venom brought out his oni side which is now ressurected.
