This is a great video! Your tutorial showed features I didn’t know were possible with the Mini 4 Pro. Very helpful. So much power in such a small drone.
Thanks very much for this excellent and TECHNICAL video which I truly appreciate. I love the amount of detail you cover...and how the Mini 4 Pro can be used to its fullest extent. Nicely done!!!
the capabilities of this drone are mind numbing. It would probably help if I had a lot of experience with DSLR Cameras before, but I am learning as i go. Thank you for a very informative but not overly complicated tutorial!
It is amazing how capable these drones are, but it's almost overwhelming with all the different settings. I think it does help to understand the theory behind all the settings, but just experimenting with different settings can be very helpful. It is also time consuming, and that why I like to share my experience and what I've learned. Thanks for your comment😊
I've never use the course lock because I've always wanted to control where the camera was looking, not just looking one direction. But with using the point of interest and course lock, I'll be able to capture much longer hyperlapses! This is because I won't have to pre-fly the course to map it! With DJI Mavic Air 2S, I only get about 20 minutes of useable flight time with my batteries. So getting another 3-4 minutes on Hyperlapse time will really help increase over the 10 second mark! I would like them to be 20 second plus Ideally! Thanks for the great video
I'm glad this was helpful, I too find, trying to figure out how to use the least amount of battery for setup is important when it comes to hyperlapses.
@@CreateandKaptivate I am a professional photographer, own a phantom 4 and now recently got the M4P. I was experimenting with the Hyperlapse/Waypoints feature, I find I could reverse the order of the points really interesting. With this function, we could save some battery juice. We could: 1-First of all, fly to the last waypoint and set it to as point 1. 2-Then fly to the second waypoint, which is closer to Home as point 2. 3-Reverse the waypoints, where the second waypoint became the first. That way, when we are setting the path, we don't have to fly to the first waypoint set it, then fly to the second, set it, and then fly back again to the first point to start the mission. That could save some battery juice. I hope DJI can implement this in the main Waypoint feature.
Yeah, i wonder why we don't have the reverse option in the regular waypoints. I've used it for hyperlapses on my mini 3 pro, but on the regular waypoints you can select what waypoint to start from, but not the order, at least as far as I know.
That's cool! I bought the Freewell mega pack shortly after the M4P came out and at that time they didn't have the ND2000. I'm definitely getting one. On a sunny day I couldn't even get a one second shutter speed using an ND1000 without the shot being overexposed.
@@CreateandKaptivate yeah I got the all day one I think. Same. Only has an ND1000 and no 2000’s on Amazon either. It’s $20.00 for one but oh well 😆 the ND1000 isn’t cut it for a sunny day.
Here I thought I was ready to have fun with my in a few day's delivered Mini 4 Pro, seen lots of video's to get me ready moving up from my Mini 2 SE. Then Hyperlapse showed up in my feed. And this right here from @CreateandKaptivate is GREAT, thank you, I'm sure to gonna "try" to use your technics. Another sub at ya!
@@CreateandKaptivate Currently loving the 4 Pro, wishing I had more time to fly but at my free day's off work the weather is working against me. Still have so much more to learn as my hyperlapse's are very basic settings but tried some with waypoint settings but it was very windy today. th-cam.com/video/Px6IRzuiVp8/w-d-xo.html Also wondering if you use any filter? I'm using the ND64. Hope one day i'll be able to create such smooth hyperlapse video's as @CreateandKaptivate does.
Haha sounds a lot like my situation. Either I have no time to go fly or the weather sucks. Anyway, I checked out your video and those are good hyperlapses, the one thing I would suggest is going much higher with your ND filter so you can really slow down the shutter speed. Often in the daytime I will use an ND1000 so I can get my shutter speed down to around 1 second. Even around 1/2 a second you'll notice a huge difference, it'll make everything much smoother. One thing to note is you have to use an interval of 3 seconds or greater otherwise your shutter speed is limited to about 1/3 of a second.
For the hyperlapse, the interval setting is how long between photos and the length is how long the final hyperlapse will be. And it takes 25 photos for each second or 25 frames per second. So a 10 second hyperlapse would be 250 photos and if the interval was set to say 3 seconds it would take 750 seconds to compete the hyperlapse. Now you will set the speed using circle and course lock mode and in waypoint mode the speed is determined by the total time to complete the hyperlase (so 750 seconds in my example) and the total distance covered by the waypoints. Hopefully that helps a bit.
I'm glad to hear you found it helpful, the reason the camera seems to jump is because I didn't properly match the frame rate of the hyperlapse with my timeline in editing. So it's not the hyperlapse itself it's just a mistake in editting.
Is there a jump in the hyperlapse every few seconds? Is this a feature of the drone moving forward too quickly or something to do with post processing?
I made a mistake in editing and didn't match the frame rate of the clip to my timeline, so essentially the clip is losing a frame every second which is what you are seeing. Something I didn't realize until after I had uploaded the video. Oops!
@@CreateandKaptivateI was searching desperately for this in the comments. I’m relieved to hear that because I was afraid it was a software issue with the mini 4
The actual hyperlapse doesn't have that stutter. It was caused in editing, because I didn't properly match the frame rate of my timeline to the framerate of the hyperlapse. My timeline was 24fps and the hyperlaspes are 25fps, so they're losing a frame every second.
Great tutorial, thanks! I have a few questions regarding motion blur - do you get any blurred photos with those long shutter speeds? Does the drone stop each time it takes a picture? What's the longest shutter speed suitable for hyperlapses?
I believe the drone does stop when taking the photo. But there are other factors like wind that can cause blurred photos. Personally I've found 1 second to work quite well, but sometimes even with an ND1000 I have to go to 1/1.25" or higher to get correct exposure. Night Hyperlapses are a whole new set of challenges but one thing I found is bright lights will get overexposed and blurry using longer shutters speeds of 1second or higher.
So what would be the ideal, a short interval, a long duration and a fixed target or objective (avoiding moving the camera)? Using mostly a 1 second shutter speed.
The 1 second looks smoother but I think it will depend on the movement in the frame what is better. Cars move fast so 1 is enough. But things that are slower Imagine could handle lower
Yeah I would agree. The one issue I run into in the daytime, is trying to get lower shutter speeds without overexposing the shot. Even with an ND1000. Also for things that move slower a longer interval can help.
So what would be the ideal, a short interval, a long duration and a fixed target or objective (avoiding moving the camera)? Using mostly a 1 second shutter speed.
To be able to select a 1 second shutter speed you need to use a minimum interval of 3 seconds. Now the idea is to be capturing some movement between shots so the slower the movement the longer you want the interval but also the higher you make the interval the less images you'll be able to capture before running out of battery.
I think it depends on where you are. Where I'm at the rules for sub 250g drones are pretty relaxed. You can fly in the city as long as it's not in a restricted area and you're exercising proper cautions.
As far as I know you don't have the option to choose your resolution in hyperlapse mode. If you go into your camera settings when you have hyperlapse mode selected, the resolution seems to default to 4k.
The hyperlapses that are automatically generated are at 25 fps. I had my timeline set to 24 fps in the editor, so it was dropping a frame every second which was the cause of the skipping. I didn't realize that until later.
@@CreateandKaptivate OK, thank You. Thats what I'm thought. I keep all my works to 30fps. But with any fps its good to remember and use in editing only values divisible to used fps...
To be honest, I'm not exactly sure why it does that. There is a possibility I miss matched frame rates. Also in some situations using and editing with the raw files produces better results.
Yes, I know you can, I haven't used Lr yet, but I have used the raw files in Davinci Resolve, they do require some color grading, but I can often get better stabilization and much less cropping than the hyperlapse created by the app.
Haha, that's a good question. Off the top of my head, I don't know if or how you could pull that off. But something to think about 🤔 if there is a way, it would certainly be worth making a video about.
Very useful information, thanks for that. I’ll be using your advice to make my travel videos look better….. Until I wrap my Mini 4 Pro around a tree, anyway!!
One thing I notice is that the recordings are having hiccups. I have no idea how to explain this better. It seems like the video runs at 30fps everywhere and then goes to 28fps and back to 30fps. If you look closely you will notice this. How come?? I was recently recording and at home the image turned out to be irregular and gray and then 3x in 6 minutes after formatting the SD, I hope it has been solved!
I do believe you are correct, and that it has to do with the frame rate of the actual video and the playback framerate. The hyperlapses are actually created at 25fps, but my computer seems to play them back fine. Where I've noticed the hiccups you're talking about is after I put the videos into my editor and set the frame rate incorrectly. For instance in this video I had my timeline set to 24fps (by mistake) so I do notice the clips in this video seem to have that hiccup effect, which I think is cause by the mismatched fps. So if the video is 25fps and my timeline is 24fps there is a frame dropped every second. I don't know if any of this helps but that's my experience with this issue you mentioned.
As for (mattiaburling) receiving feedback is a normal part of growth and development, and that it's an opportunity to learn and improve. So maybe some care.

Even though the intro music is…questionable, being kind. I hit mute asap but stuck with it glad I did because video was good. But, as I stayed with it the dramatic Musak played so I gave up. So play on mute and read transcript when available.
It stinks. I have the Mini 3 Pro so I don't have waypoints unless I'm doing hyperlapse I really wish I could do waypoints with regular video like the mini 4 I wish they would just update the Mini 3 Pro to do so
Yeah, I hear you man. That's one of the main reasons I ended up buying the mini 4 pro. But you'd think if you have waypoints for hyperlapses, why not make it available for regular video too.
Please I don't mean any disrespect...& I don't mean to burst your bubble...but the constant movement of your hands is so distracting pls halt the movement of your hands it's so hard to concentrate. Other wise a great video.

Great tutorial, can someone explain the exact meaning of the setting tho, interval, speed, etc i cant find anything and its what i need to understand
To be able to select a 1 second shutter speed you need to use a minimum interval of 3 seconds. Now the idea is to be capturing some movement between shots so the slower the movement the longer you want the interval but also the higher you make the interval the less images you'll be able to capture before running out of battery.

Even though the intro music is…questionable, being kind. I hit mute asap but stuck with it glad I did because video was good. But, as I stayed with it the dramatic Musak played so I gave up. So play on mute and read transcript when available.
Sorry the music wasn't to your liking, but I'm glad you thought the video was good. Thanks for the feedback👍
lol, thanks ) I so stupid )) my max shutter speed was 1/3 s and i confused why )) in 2s interval mode =D
Haha I ran into the same thing at first, but then I increased the interval and realized that was why.
Hate the loud head pounding music. Made me RUN to turn it down but baby still woke up and started crying.
Sorry for the music, I know it's not for everyone. Thanks for the feedback.
I really like your videos, but calm down with the hands. They mirror each other, which is distracting.
Noted! You're not the first person to comment on that, and I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!
👌🤏🤏🤏👌🤏👌👌🤏🤏
Thanks👍
@@CreateandKaptivate my point exactly
Can you tie your hands together next time? Really distracting and even annoying after some time
Not the first time I heard that comment, thanks for the feedback.
Great video but shitty song. ROCK DOESNT fit at all
Noted...thanks for the feedback!
Maybe easy for you but I find the tutorial to be completely incomprehensible. 😢
Sorry to hear that, thanks for the feedback.
@@CreateandKaptivateI found it very clear and very helpful. Thanks for the video!
Please I don't mean any disrespect...& I don't mean to burst your bubble...but the constant movement of your hands is so distracting pls halt the movement of your hands it's so hard to concentrate. Other wise a great video.
I disagree, move your hands any way you want. No one cares.
Hey, no offense taken. Thanks for the feedback.
@mattiasburling thanks👍
Great vid. May I ask if you need to apply for any permission to fly in downtown Calgary?
I'm not 100% sure, but I fly just outside of downtown not actually in downtown, there are too many tall buildings to either crash into or cause a loss of signal.
@CreateandKaptivate I thought you cannot fly there without a permit.
Dope yo @freshtasteatl link up wit him
After long time you are the first that I funded whit great explanation! I’m one more follower from now.. keep bringing this great tutorials!! BRAVO
