Previously thought to be extinct, a massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific. With time running out, a visionary oceanographer recruits rescue diver Jonas Taylor to save the crew and the sea itself from an unimaginable threat -- a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.

I was legit crying, Toshi was my favourite character, if the "hero" and his ex-wife didnt have a chat and a long eye contact, Toshi would survive. He is the real hero

not just a hero, but a total badass, knowing he was gonna die he did not quietly close his eyes and accepted his fate, he switched on the lights to attract the beast directly at him and went out with a warcry

True, but she was injured so Toshi sacrificed himself to get them to safety. There is something that people can or have to do. Also, they were uncomfortable to see each other.
I thought the exact same thing, but Toshi also reactivated all of the lights, distracting the shark for them to escape safely. Could have been another disaster if the shark attacked them.

People seem to really be missing that he didnt only die because they wasted 5 seconds talking. He realized they wouldnt all make it to the surface without something luring the shark away. That's why he dosent just close the hatch he then switches the lights on. It's really amazing how people can watch a scene and miss half of it.

If they all climbed onto that rescue ship, they still would've died as the Meg came after them, a sacrifice was the only option
Actually, Toshi might’ve been able to see it since if she was brought into Jonas’s ship immediately they would’ve got the meg returning warning as Toshi would’ve started climbing, so he could’ve rapidly turned the lights on and blast away just in time for the meg to obliterate the sub, however, this isn’t a complaint, this is a very clear case of character flaws costing a man his life, i.e. Jonas’s ego demanding him lightly mock her for being in that situation in the first place.
I think it's because Suyin would not blow her tanks, he could have gotten some more time.

To everyone that says their talk doomed Toshi, it's been 5-10 seconds so, even if they didn't talk, it would have changed anyything. Instead the fat one, Wall, climbed up only when the Meg was coming instead of climbing up immediately behind her, not to mention he was that slow and sluggish: that's what got Toshi killed.
Moreover, hadn't Toshi turned on the lights, the Meg would have still attacked, and likely killed, them while they were rising to safety: a sacrifice was necessary to distract the giant shark and save them all.
Exactly. Even if Jason Statham and his ex-wife didn't have the stupid conversation, the 2 subs probably still would have been attached while Wall or Toshi were climbing up, which would have killed them all anyway.
toshi is the one that closed the latch and he is the one that disconnected each sub so basically it isn't really Jonas's fault cause nobody made Toshi do it he chose to. That was very brave of him to do
And if he didn't make that choice they would all be dead.

I read the other day that implosions under water are very quick practically instantaneous. When the submersible Titan imploded, it was said that the air in the submersible reach the temperature of the sun’s surface. This is less than a full second.
