    It is a great achievement to make something from a wreck and requires more dedication than most people realise "one track mind" indeed!. I like the mods to the rear wings which are nicely done (I'm less keen on the 1990s VW colour or the interior, but each to his own).

    Good job to save it, though it would have been nice to repair the metal to a higher standard for a lot less filler. Replacement panels are pretty cheap, though it is a lot of work, so I understand the constraints of a budget and time, even though that means all the paint will have to be redone eventually. Those wheels though...brutal.

    • @OneTrackMind71
      @OneTrackMind71  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @plus790 thanks to the exchange rate & dutiesn South Africa, the cost of panels is quite prohibitive on a restricted budget.
      I’ve learned a lot about saving cars since doing this car and absolutely agree, less body filler should have been the order of the day. I know now that I will redo this car again one day to the standard it deserves. About those rims. Is that a compliment or complaint? I believe rims are easy to swap out, in fact the little guy is already on his third set since the ones in the video.

    • @plus790
      @plus790 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @OneTrackMind71 not a fan of the modern wheels, I'm afraid. They make retro styled alloy wheels and you can get them in 15" for good tire choices.

    Nice job, lots of work! Would be nice to get some new bits for the details like headlamps & the shabbier chrome bits but you've got to draw the line somewhere! I do like the look of flocking but always wonder how practical it is longer term & what the options are to redo parts once they have been flocked? The grille wouldn't be my first choice either but each to thier own - its a nice bit of kit!

    • @OneTrackMind71
      @OneTrackMind71  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I learned so much through this process, never crossed my mind that some of the shabbier parts would stand out as they do. Pleased to have the car on the road and to be able to drive it. This allows me to slowly upgrade the parts I don’t like over time.
      I wasn’t sold on the flocking for the same reasons, but suitably impressed with its longevity so far. That said, probably one of the things that will be upgraded in future, once I start on the interior.

    Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
    In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
    on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!!!!

    Why put such a heavy item like the battery up high? Depending on the rules its better in the spare wheel well, Mine on the 1750 GTV is just infront of the passenger seat on the floor to keep the cables shorter. I know Alfaholics and others like to put the fuel tank where you ran the battery because its between the rear wheel mass, I don't necessarily agree with it. I don't like having any of that weight up high, needs to be as low as possible. If you run the Battery in the spare wheel well what you lose in weight for extra length cable, you make up more in stability, counteracting the weight from the fuel on the left side of the car

    • @OneTrackMind71

      Great feedback, thanks, I’ve learned so much during this build, I ignorantly like the idea of using the dead space for the battery, but already dislike the location. Amongst many other things, battery location will definitely change.

      I’m new to this video making thing. I made the video for posterity. At one point, too close to the end of the project, I almost canned the entire thing. Nothing was working out the way I planned, project was taking far too long and becoming expensive.
      Thankfully I pushed through and love the end result. Yes, there is a lot that could have been done better, but that’s the beauty of the project, I can drive and upgrade as I can afford it.
      The music was chosen as a reflection of my mood at the time.
      It never occurred to me to add commentary, but it turns out I have a story to tell, so making an updated version which will be released soon.
      Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder. As is the music. Thanks for the feedback.

      @@OneTrackMind71 Perhaps it is due to individual conviction.
      For me, there is actually only one correct way of preservation.
      The beautiful thing about Venice is the visible history. For me, preserving the history of a car does not mean returning it to its original condition. It is preserving as much history as possible, any dent in the sheet metal that will not limit function should be preserved in my opinion. The same goes for corrosion - stop it and preserve it.
      What you have done there does not meet with my understanding. Sorry.
