Camera Sensor Dust Spots - How to find and fix them!

  • Dust spots on your camera sensor is one of the most frustrating aspects of photography. It’s when little specs of dirt or dust appear as tiny black dots on your images when you’re editing them later on. Don’t stress though, finding them and dealing with them is easy when you know how.

    Great video Ralph! Love the thumbnail, the best I've seen in a while! So much useful info in this video. Basically exactly what my sensor looks like. I've cleaned it myself and it is literally one of the scariest things you can do. But to your point, just be careful, and if you do, you come away with a nice clean sensor again! Thanks for the great information. Hope you are well. Have a great week and stay safe mate!

    Hello Ralph, amazing video! I have a question, I got a new phone very recently and today as i woke up a dark spot appeared on my front facing camera. It's nothing too serious but very annoying. Is it possible that it is a dust spot? I tried wiping it, restarting it but nothing worked. Btw, yesterday I went out with some friends so i don't really remember what could have happened to it lol.

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much. That’s really interesting. Have you shined a bright torch into the lens to help you see where the spot might be? If it’s internal then I think you’d need to take it to a pro repairer. Sometimes external spots are really hesitant to move and you need to really scrub at them with a lens cleaning cloth. It could also be an external mark on your screen. So make sure you clean that too. Good luck.

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      hmmmm not sure. The air blowers filter the air, and most other options would just blow dirty air on the sensor, which you don't want. You could probably pick one up on your travels. Most camera shops would have them.

    I changed my new A7IV from electronic to mechanical. Would that cause something like this to happen so soon. It’s literally like a day old and the first day I was just setting up menus.
    Also, what if my censors has the barn doors over it to protect it. Do you just shoot the air at that? I’ll have to switch back to electronic shooting mode to see if it exposes the censor vs having it on mechanical.

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s interesting. I wouldn’t have thought so. But perhaps.
      You have to put it in cleaning mode to do it, which keeps the sensor exposed so you can access it.

    Hello Ralph , any idea how to handle these Sony dust spots while travelling on long trips without a laptop. Its very hard to see the spots on the LCD of the A7IV which as terrible resolution. I bought a brand new A7IV and it already has dust after 1 weeks use. I swap lenses facing down with the shutter curtain closed. I also when I remember try and remove the battery and turn it on to drain the voltage from the sensor. I also try and use the antishake mechanism as often as I remember but still getting dust. I also shoot Canon and my R6 has 1 medium dust spot after 14 months of use. I moved away from Sony when I had the A7III because of the dust spots after a 3 week European trip. I got home and most small aperture videos had dust spots which I could not see on the LCD during playback. I hate cleaning the sensor because of the risk involved and this camera is brand new. Why does Sony have more dust issues compared to Canon ? I can say this because I have been shooting both system for many years.

    • @RalphMayhewPhotography
      @RalphMayhewPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      G’day Steve. That’s a fascinating discovery. I’m pretty sure the sensors in Canon are made by Sony. Maybe they’re a less quality which results in less dust spots? Maybe it’s the shape of the mount that makes it easier? 🤷🏼‍♂️ I use a Loupe which helps see the dust on the sensor and then face it down and blast it with a air blower. You should use an air blower when ever you change lenses. You probably know all this though :s

Take photo but as you press and shutter opens ... move the camera around blurring background. What you then see is a grey to white photo with all the crap on your sensor showing.
