Thank you for the review. I’m waiting for this documentary to release. I found two external things interesting other than your review. Which was helpful to me. First your shirt, Genesis, Phil is also a drummer who sings which is rare in the male world and even rarer in the female music world. Now think of the late sixties and Karen wants to drum. Then figures out she can sing and do both simultaneously.
Next is you mention of Rush and the late Neil Peart. He had an interview that is famous in the Carpenters lore. He was asked in the mid 70’s “what does it feel like to be the greatest drummer alive?” Neil answered; “I wouldn’t know you’d have to ask Karen Carpenter.” At that point in time there weren’t a lot of non-Carpenters fans that would know. If you search on TH-cam you will find numerous examples of Karen’s drumming chops.
    Thanks again.
    Joe

that's a great quote. Reminds of the same thing they asked Clapton about being the worlld's greatest guitarist, and he said "I wouldn't know, you'd have to ask Prince."
Doesn't surprise me Neil would be a Carpenters fan. Neil also loved The Monkees in fact.

@@AllMediaReviewsPodcast maybe meaning he loved Hal Blaine? The Monkees were a Wrecking Crew band. I always took Neil’s quote as a bit of modesty, with some truth. It’s a searchable quote. Karen was only one of 4 people to ever have a Hal Blaine “Monster Kit” made for her.

that was pretty cool. eddie van halen was asked the same question and he said: you better ask alex lifeson that question. in all seriousness, all the drumming greats, buddy rich and others said karen was one on the best of all time. she would have drummed more in the carpenters if she didnt have the greatest voice that ever lived

Imo Karen Carpenter would have been a superb jazz singer; that is so obvious in a youtube video that is out there of her duetting with Ella Fitzgerald. With the right guidance -- which she tragically didn't have when she made her solo album -- her gift would have taken her far beyond the synthesized Carpenters sound.

The Carpenters had their roots in jazz, AND there was a lot of jazz on their albums. A lot of people don’t know that, because they only know of their hits.

It's meant to grab your attention. It's not a candy floss docu. It's serious covering serious subjects.
