your films are like only fools and horses ,cant wait for the next one and when it comes, its over in a flash .thank you for the hours of entertainment guides and inspiration ,cheers mick
Richard, I am not a modeler of any kind, however YOUR attention to detail is most impressive. I've been watching for several years and your videos just keep getting better and better. Well done!
Hi Richard greetings from oz I have just watched your video on your building of the embankment and the car auction diorama must say it looks really believable keep up the great work looking forward to more of your work regards Alan
That was such a blast from the 80's i liked it even though i have to say i was only 4 in 89. Your layout out is amazing its coming on brilliantly. I didn't realise how the cars moved till i saw your video on it its a brilliant idea. I think the containers are so well detailed keep up the great work fella
I love container flats and if I was doing a modern image layout, I’d have a lot of them. Really enjoyed the history and the development. Some awesome images like 2:22. The models by bachmann really are the business and well overdue. They look really nice going around your layout. Great video to watch, Clint
Richard loved the Promo film and yes I was around in the 70’s. I was upset at the demise of the original Everard Junction I’d been a fan for a long time, Congratulations the Phoenix has risen, love it. ( I know it takes a lot of time and effort to film and produce these videos so thank you)
Particularly pleased that you said they don't derail. I've had great problems with modern Dapol freightliner wagons. The long distance between the pivot and the coupling means there is big movement on curves which often causes derailments. I resprayed my old Hornby stock, and cheap though they are, they hold the track.
Well what can i say the video was Brilliant thanks richard loved the br style video and music so realistic for the time, Your attention to detail is amazing nice to know where to get more containers from i would not of had a clue that company existed, the amazing detail to those containers and rolling stock is out of this world.from john from rugby.
Excellent video as always Richard - I've had the same issue with an excess of Maersk containers on other intermodals previously so i feel your pain. Thank heavens for C-Rail - they really do provide an excellent selection and as you've highlighted, very reasonably priced at that!
Brilliant mate Great informative vid as always, bachmann always miss that little money spinner- Do love the BR add ending 😂 Great viewing buddy 👍👍 Garry
Richard, really enjoyed this product showcase as a relative newbie to the hobby, great information.....you have given many ideas and inspiration to me for my new train room, thanks
Hello Richard, thanks for posting such a fantastic video. The historical information you have included was extremely interesting. I have to agree with you regarding the quality of the flat wagons and associated containers which is outstanding. Thanks Greg
I've also found container wagon livery research very difficult. There is not a lot of information, nor photographs of containers on their own, especially from days gone by, and, even if you do happen to find a clip of a container train, they invariably focused on the locomotive, and, as soon as it went past, bang, cut to the next scene. Milk products was something carried in containers in NSW, Australia where I'm from, (and where I model) and those types of containers, as well as photos of them at various depots being loaded are very thin on the ground. I have managed to stumble across a few now, and, a small company has made a kit of the container, as well as the wagon they commonly rode on, so I've got a few that are almost ready for construction. Really enjoyed the video, well done.
Thanks for sharing Richard! Again, Bachmann are showing that they create incredibly detailed models, they've become my manufacturer of choice these days... the attention to detail on their products isn't matched elsewhere!
Thank you Richard for you review of this very interesting wagon release from Bachmann. You mentioned C Rail Inter-modal in your review. This business is run by Scotsman Arran Aird and he produces a very interesting range of OO & N gauge containers. I have just invested in the FGA outer wagons and your review helped me make my mind up to get them. Love your new lay-out, thank for all the content you have produced so far.
Another excellent video Richard, very professional. These wagons look great on the layout, highly detailed, and I'm sure they will benefit from a bit of weathering. One thing I did notice ( at about 20:00 , was a bit of a wobble on a couple of them. Have you a wee lump on your track, or is this an issue with the wheels? Loved the "old" advert too - clever. All the Best, Dougie.
I'll have a look when I'm in Guernsey next, seen some of these model containers around, so I'll have a look and see what's about, usually promotional ones.
Hi Richard. Great introduction for the new Bachmann container flats 😄 Very much improved from those Hornby ones haha 😆 Looking forward to your next layout update 😁 Cheers Stevie 😎
I still can't get over how much better the layout looks with that signal gantry - I'm looking forward to the day the signals are working, too! I presume that you'll weather those containers at some point - even fairly new containers look faded after a few weeks in the sun and sea-air on the deck of a ship or on the back of a lorry.
hi Richard great vid as always, this vid revived memories from the 80's when i lived close to an inland container terminal near Liverpool i remember watching a class 40 split headcode full bore clagging like crazy trying to get its train away from the terminal with 3 sets '15' wagons fully loaded with a full rake of the white OCL contanks under dark storm clouds it was an awesome sight and i swear you must of been able to hear this 40 for miles 'actually i might try replicate that on my layout when the new 40s come out later this year !
Hi again just heard your comment regarding which way the fence posts should be I myself would have them the way you had them fist this would make it harder for the riff raff and all the dodgy type from getting in cheers Alan
I live a spit and a fart away from one of the biggest ports in Europe, and the out line from the docks is about 200 yds from me, so hear them regularly
Hi as a recent subscriber and engrossed by your excellent you tube clips i was especially impressed ( even.more than the usual impressed lol) with this freightliner container detail as like you was unimpressed by the great wagons only being let down by the abundance of grey inner wagons. Thanks to you im now scouring old photos and the C rail website for some excellent alternatives very much appreciated help on that matter! Being unable to sleep at 3 am in the morning with a sudden new fetish for nice containers i.hope ive not unleased a new demand for masses of containers otherwise my bank.account will be in big trouble! Anyway its your fault...😁😁😁😁..cheers again ,its good to see you get the much deserved praise and press for your quality work ,your very instilled professional approach is second to.none. Whilst i could never match that i do.indeed hope articles like this and your older fiddle yard creations are partucularly of great interest, inspiring informative and bang on the mark with the help.i.going to need in my future plans. Keep up the great work please dont stop and thanks again for the massive inspiration.,cheers Geoff in Suffolk🙂👍
We have these type of containers (with exact company names!) in territories of ex-USSR railways as well! And also, huge variety of rolling stock for their transportation. I'm an ex-USSR railways (bascially post soviet era, like epoch 5) collector, but come to your channel for modelling tips and to enjoy watching your trains rolling around haha
Cool addition to the layout ! I'm dying to see more of you building the layout ! Or at least see an overall view of thinks ? Your biggest fan over the water in Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
Weathering the containers will be interesting! They were badly scratched, dented, and battered about, not just dirty and rusty. There is a great book on the shipping container: "The Box: How the Shipping Container Made the World Smaller and the World Economy" by Marc Levinson available from all the usual places.
Hi Richard ! Maersk bought /fusioned whith both P&O and Sea Land in the 8ties I believe and Safmarine has also been their for years they even have the Maersk prefixes (the 4 letters in front of the number) so you can make a quite colourful train featuring only Maersk containers, they also joined up whith the Japanese Kawasaki Lines as far back as 1972, regards Claus
Great video as usual. you mention that you have an excess of containers. Think about using them as storage units somewhere as many having become time expired for shipping.
Richard you are so right about the photograph history being a bit sparce. I've been looking for the history on the liveries of the UK Freightliner wagons to try and see what was running in the early to late 70's.
The number under the container fleet number is disruption code, Also most boxes are loaded with doors to doors, to stop access into them when in transit! There was a spate RFD container trains been broken into around the Garston area, when waiting for a path in the mid 80's.
Brilliant video! Amazing how much information can be found with a lot of research. Really enjoyed that. I’m pretty sure that BR Freightliner had the FLA Lowliners come in around the late 80’s for the continental high cube containers. Realtrack Models do the Polish twin wagon ones but someone on RMweb has modified them to the original 1980’s spec which ran in sets of 3,4 and 5. They would be a great addition if planning on prototypically running with the high cube containers. All the best, Jordan
Very good! interesting models! Just to let you know some intermodaul wagons suffer from cyclic top issues (when train bounces) and IDA wagons have a rule that 10 ton minium boxes must be loaded on the two rear most waggons to prevent it from bouncing off the track! Very informative video! :D
Very nice models. Unless they've done, or doing it would be great to see bachmann sell packs of different containers. Not something that I'll be buying but nevertheless a great in sight and well put together video that's always good to see an insight into the history.
Hi Richard Great video and a stunning set of containers, some great background info too. I bought the Freightliner version and they are superb wagons and run like a dream on my helix, always a good start. As with yours some weathering is required but at the moment I'm loath to hit the containers with powders or airbrush but will have a go at some point. They look great with the raifreight 47 on your layout. Cheers Paul
These are equipped with AB Brake systems a standardized brake system by the FRA of the US the 1920s but modern breaking features have been added by the 1950s and have become standard in all America’s nation’s and also began to appear on UK rail network by this time the break system is well effective and modified versions are still used to this day.
For 2nd radius curves, I have added a piece of plasticard between the bogie and wagon to lift it ever so slightly as the flange was rubbing against the body on the sharp corners. Runs better with it now (2x 5 wagon sets).
A fantastic video and the I love the end music. Takes me back to the good old days. Have you thought about maybe painting over the names on one or two of the containers to look like those that have been sold on and unbranded ?
Really nice video and nice cars. But I really enjoyed the part where you quickly show how you use Kadee couplers. Perhaps you could provide us a video about couplers and kadee types used on British rolling stock? I would really enjoy. Thank you!
Great video as usual Richard, Bachmann made some container packs like Ferrymasters, Econ, Hamburg Sud and a few others I wonder if they would fit to the wagons, Regards Mick
For the US even during the 80's it was very possible to see a Maxi III wellcar with groups of containers from the same line it wasn't till the 90's that we started 53 foot containers and oh my lord, if you seen a domestic intermodal train you'd see blocks of the same livery for ten or even twenty cars. Lovely wagons but at around 9:55 in there does seem to be a little wheel wobble on the leading wagon in the frame. Thank you for a very informative & enjoyable video

Still dancing. Sound of the summer! Watched every video of the new layout being constructed and added to but I must have missed something - will there be a station? I seem to remember the branch line would/will pull into a bay platform as part of the new Everard Junction mainline station?
Fantastic review on containers and their wagons.
Please keep showing and making more great informative videos.

Brilliant Richard. So pleased you directed this to me! Another great video. Iain
Holy cow - late 80's musical background! Garish - Brilliant!!
I love a bit of cheesy 80's music too. lol
That was such a blast from the 80's i liked it even though i have to say i was only 4 in 89. Your layout out is amazing its coming on brilliantly. I didn't realise how the cars moved till i saw your video on it its a brilliant idea. I think the containers are so well detailed keep up the great work fella
Super once again, great review. Love the music at the end so fitting... reminded me of the old videos of RAILFREIGHT TODAY..!
I love container flats and if I was doing a modern image layout, I’d have a lot of them. Really enjoyed the history and the development. Some awesome images like 2:22. The models by bachmann really are the business and well overdue. They look really nice going around your layout. Great video to watch, Clint
Great history build up regarding the container wagons and well the music i feel is ok, nice professional presentation as always .....
Wow!! What an eye for detail yet again!! So impressed with the realism of this layout!!!!

Do love the BR add ending 😂
Great viewing buddy 👍👍

Awsome review great having the history of the wagons too much appreciated
Richard, really enjoyed this product showcase as a relative newbie to the hobby, great information.....you have given many ideas and inspiration to me for my new train room, thanks
Takes me back to my days in the shipping industry and being in and out of Tilbury Docks in the late 80s
Hello Richard, thanks for posting such a fantastic video. The historical information you have included was extremely interesting. I have to agree with you regarding the quality of the flat wagons and associated containers which is outstanding. Thanks Greg
Really liked the 'promo video' idea... You've actually got quite a good sense of humour...
A very informative video . Very well edited and produced. Nice one Robert.👍😊👍😊

I do love the promotional advert at the end!
Great info on a subject I have thought about modelling in N scale... thanks for the info etc, very good, cheers, Chris

I’m about to start an N gauge layout with my dad in the coming months, keep the videos coming so we know what we’re supposed to do 😂
Very detailed assessment Richard, they look really good.
Hi, A very in depth and interesting insight. Certainly looks like a cracking product. Love the montage of clips. Cheers. Dave
Very nice review love those wagons, the end presentation was great and the music spot on love it cheers.
Great video, the mock BTF video at the end was spot on.
Looking forward to the weathering video of the new rolling stock, really nice additions by the way, fans are almost as chuffed as you must be.
I live a spit and a fart away from one of the biggest ports in Europe, and the out line from the docks is about 200 yds from me, so hear them regularly

Magic mate great insight and information but more so great layout can’t wait for next instalment
Well done, but you knew that before uploading. 😎 I loved the background and subtle humor with the ads and more. Keep striving for perfection! Cheers.
Awesome video Richard. Thanks for the background information and great video work, keep them coming please!
yes very good ! a much needed model and hope fully more to come the tiphook wagon would make a 1980's addition to the rakes
This reminds me of standing on Ipswich Station. Great stuff

Yeah Like Mini Flats or Offices on Building sites
Please show us the weathering of the containers. I am starting up a Union Pacific Intermodal set of trains and I am very interested in weathering.
I have the freightliner version and they are superb as well. Nice review
Very interesting and informative video thanks Richard
freight advertisement at the end is a classic :)

Very interesting history, really enjoyed this vid, love the Saturday night game show music at the end too ! Lol
Nice shot of my local Driving Patch. Hove (well the junction facing Brighton) at 2.15 ;)

Not something that I'll be buying but nevertheless a great in sight and well put together video that's always good to see an insight into the history.
That's the first time I've ever seen containers in such pristine condition ... no doubt we'll see the weathering video, soon. ;-))
(first)
They are so nicely done it's almost a shame to weather them!
Excellent video, - thanks for sharing. Regards Robert
Hi Richard
Great video and a stunning set of containers, some great background info too.
I bought the Freightliner version and they are superb wagons and run like a dream on my helix, always a good start.
As with yours some weathering is required but at the moment I'm loath to hit the containers with powders or airbrush but will have a go at some point.
They look great with the raifreight 47 on your layout.
Cheers Paul
Hi Rich a very informative video good work. They look really good 👍
Great video, as always, I think BACHMANN owe you a couple of "freebies" for such a magnificent review & video of their new product :-)
Looks great - just need the blinky red tail light to complete the set... oh and maybe a bit of weathering :)
Great video and your soundtrack is spot on :)
Couldn't contain my excitement when I saw the new video........ I'll let myself out!
Nicely done as always, and the music may have been bad, but it was spot on.
Nice wagons there. I might have to get some of these myself.
I wanted to shout for joy at the 80s corporate music. Back when I believed what corporations said - before I became jaded and suspicious of authority.
Is that a quote?
These are equipped with AB Brake systems a standardized brake system by the FRA of the US the 1920s but modern breaking features have been added by the 1950s and have become standard in all America’s nation’s and also began to appear on UK rail network by this time the break system is well effective and modified versions are still used to this day.

Very enjoyable and informative video, well done.
Really nice video and nice cars. But I really enjoyed the part where you quickly show how you use Kadee couplers. Perhaps you could provide us a video about couplers and kadee types used on British rolling stock? I would really enjoy. Thank you!
The music is great! It really looks like an 80s promo video. It only need some kind of old VHS effect.
Great video as usual Richard,
Bachmann made some container packs like Ferrymasters, Econ, Hamburg Sud and a few others I wonder if they would fit to the wagons,
Regards Mick
For the US even during the 80's it was very possible to see a Maxi III wellcar with groups of containers from the same line it wasn't till the 90's that we started 53 foot containers and oh my lord, if you seen a domestic intermodal train you'd see blocks of the same livery for ten or even twenty cars. Not to mention TOFC traffic.
Lovely wagons but at around 9:55 in there does seem to be a little wheel wobble on the leading wagon in the frame. Thank you for a very informative & enjoyable video
Great video Richard very informative and loved the music !!!
Great review of a superb model. A shorter coupling bar could be useful as there are no buffers on the wagon. Geoff. W.
Nice video, Didn't know most container trains used only the non-buffered connections, the DRS 'tesco express' runs by my house everyday, and it is made up of pairs of permanently coupled wagons ( so only what you describe as 'outer wagons'). Didn't know they only used buffer and chain-link for loco connections, pretty cool to know.
Still dancing. Sound of the summer!
Watched every video of the new layout being constructed and added to but I must have missed something - will there be a station?
I seem to remember the branch line would/will pull into a bay platform as part of the new Everard Junction mainline station?
Almost has a Hockey Night in Canada sound to it🇨🇦
