It can be done that way, although it's a bit touchy. It's easier to use a socket on the crankshaft on the rear inspection plate. Thanks for the comment!
My 2007 Honda rancher 420 has 284 miles on it; and it has a little tick... I setup an appointment with the dealer to get the valves adjusted but they couldn't get me in before my riding trip. If I ride my rancher will it hurt my engine or cause abnormal wear?
Thanks for your comment. There's no doubt it's a tight fit... Bend your feeler gauge where it will go between the valve and adjustment screw at a square angle... in relation to the angle of the valve. If it still doesn't fit, it's likely the valves have tightened below the feeler gauge tolerance. If this is the case, loosen both the nut and adjustment screw until it will slide between. Also, make sure your on the right stroke.
Great tutorial! Was easy to do for the most part. Hard to get to them, a bit of a tight fit, but I managed.
Is it basically the same thing for the 2012 rancher
What compression supost to be in psi on rancher 420
Ok so if you have a pull start on the bike would you just pull the cord some to crank over the engine to get to tdc?

Kountry Quads no just noise is all. It will just tick.
What are the size filler gauges for the 2016 rubicon deluxe? Trx500fm7 cant find somewhere to download a manual for free.
I did not remove the spark plug before adjusting the valves. Will that affect anything?
Blake Busha it will be harder to turn over, but I have done it that way before.
Do you rotate the crank clockwise or counterclockwise
Yes which way do we rotate the crank
Is the valve clearance accurate for a 2015 Honda Rancher? I heard other numbers which are higher, like around .012.
NavySubieDennis look at the owners manual lol
how do you get your feeler Guage in there

Did you do this hot or cold engine
Cold
does this apply to the 2013 420
rueocts 5 hearts rc yes, this process is basically the same method on them all, although I would double check that the clearance is the same.

This the same on a foreman 500
Thanks for your comment... I've not personally adjusted the valves on a Foreman, so can't say for sure.
I went ahead and just took the whole tank off. It wasn’t too terribly bad. Was a pain in the ass though
