  • This video is the first in a series of dismantling the interior of my car, replacing the rear stereo speakers, replacing the carpet and repairing the drivers floor board where a leaky convertible caused rust damage. It is a how to video where I do my best to show how each piece comes out of the interior.

    Thanks.. I'm going through this now with my 2006 PT Cruiser Convertible GT that spent 15 years in Surprise Arizona before I got it. There is dust caked everywhere so getting the interior panels out lets me clean behind them and get rid of the dirt and musty odor. I'm also installing JBL Club speakers all around (Back, doors, dash) and upgrading the radio to the later model Chrysler MyGig 730N with 30GB hard drive, navigation and Sirius/XM.

    This helped me with my daughters 2006 convertible. I bought rebuilt hydraulic pump and cylinders from TopHydraulics and came to TH-cam to see if anyone had pulled the interior apart. Your video was very helpful. So far I'm very happy with companies rebuild products, I hope I never have to do it again though :)

      TopHydraulics makes fine overhauled hydraulics. It’s an investment you will enjoy as long as you own your PT.

    You’re the only person that has a video showing how to remove that quarter trim panel. You saved my install even though I used this video for speakers

      @@timthomas2978 no, thank you for the upload. Didn't mean to comment twice, youtube told me my first comment didn't upload and I posted a second one. If I hadn't watched, I would've never known that the screws behind headrest needed to come out. I researched for hours trying to figure out how to remove the backseat as well to no avail. Ill be looking through your selection to see what other cars you've posted. Thanks a million

    Fantastic videos.I watched them all.I have an 06 PT GT Convertible and I was watching trying to figure out if the rear speaker wires are run along the sill area on each side up to the speakers as I need to tap into the rear speaker wires for a subwoofer install and it would be easier if I could tap them in the sill area so I don't have to remove the interior.Nice job on that rust repair.You fit that floor panel in better than a puzzle piece.Outstanding!If you do anything else to your car please make videos.I'm with you,these are fun cars,vintage look with a modern twist.Mine has an issue after you drive it on a very warm day,park it,run in a store,come out and leave transmission is in limp mode stuck in 2nd gear,funny thing is I can pull over,turn off car get out set alarm,wait one minute,get in start it and transmission is normal again.Maybe the TIPM,a 600 dollar part that is only available aftermarket or rebuilt as Chrysler no longer has them.Thanks again for your videos.

      Winston, thank you for the nice comments. On your transmission, the first thing I would do is to removed the input and output sensors and inspect them. The screw in and are easy to inspect. If metal debris is collected up around them you should replace them. If they are cracked, replace them. When I worked at the dealership that was one regular repair I did. Hope this helps. Tim

    Thank you for the great video! I have an 05 GT convertible with leaking hydraulic cylinders for the power top that doesn’t work currently. I got a brief look at the attachments for the cylinders looking over your shoulder. Your disassembly is quite helpful. I would recommend overhaul of the top hydraulics while you have the interior out.

      Dear F5000Racer, Thanks for the advice however just a year ago I found a NOS top on Ebay and replaced my entire top, include the hydraulic cylinders. I did save the old ones and intend on shelving them until I need them. Key an eye out, I am editing a video where I installed aftermarket carpet from a 4 door. Seems no one offers 2 door convertible carpet. In Christ, Tim Thomas

    Hey, I just bought an 05 PT GT and chasing down the little stuff. Good to see how to gewt the rear side panels off, I am surmising that i don't have to go to the same level as you did. Just need the right rear panel to chase down a window motor issue. Looks like seat removal will get me to everything I need to reach.
    constructive critique, often times the camera angle does not show what you did.. but describing it I can likely figure it out.

    Hey Tim, I sincerely appreciate these great videos you have posted. I acquired a 2007 PT Convertible and the carpet needs to be replaced. However, I'm having one heck of a time sourcing carpet for the car! Everyplace states that the carpet is for the hardtop only. Where were you able to get the convertible carpet?

    • @timthomas2978
      @timthomas2978  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used 4 door hardtop carpet. I cut it like a convertible but i shouldn't have. Don't cut the carpet between the back seat and landing.

    That T-50 seatbelt bolt comes off easily with a wratchet and breaker bar. Those rear side panels are a bitch.

    Hey Tim, I'm having a frustrating time with the 2005 Dream Cruiser 4 (GT Convertible) that I'm trying to repair. Bought it at a police auction. It had a mild front end hit, but the seat belts are apparently "ballistic" and they fired off and locked, so the driver's side is cut, and the passenger is locked in place all the way retracted (all the way into the spool, it wasn't being used as there was no passenger at the time of the accident).
    Everywhere online says that the front seat belts are interchangeable for all the PT's up to 2005, 2006 and upward are different but 2006 onward are interchangeable also? My issue is that the this convertible has pieces on the seat belt, like the upper shoulder anchor cover and loop, that are entirely different from any other PT with a tan seat belt.
    Is there a way to "thread" the belt out of those pieces? I haven't found out how it can be done :(

    I don't see how to remove the door panels. Is it the same as the four-door PT? Or I have to remove the armrests and the two nuts hidden under the round plastic covers. Thanks for all the information your videos provide.

      The 2 and 4 door panels remove the same way. I didn't film the removal of the door panels although I did remove them and replace the speakers. Hope this helps.

    I am just had to replace my hydraulic cylinders for the convertible top due to leaks. The hydraulic fluid ruined the carpet, could you tell me where you found your replacement carpet for your car?

    • @timthomas2978
      @timthomas2978  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin, after searching for months online I discovered that none of the aftermarket companies make a carpet for it. I haven't shared this information because I want to cover it in a video but a 4 door carpet kit will cover the front and the back seat floor. You'll have to do some cutting. It was not my intention to replace the back section of mine however it might be possible that that will work as well. I have a friend who has a junk yard and he says the floor pan for the convertible and 4 door are the same. I guess looking forward I will test that theory.
