    Thank you everyone for 2000 subscribers! Your support has been wonderful. I've loved reading all your comments this last month.
    So I guess I was lying when I said the last one was going to be the longest. Have another 30 minute episode. This one went together much quicker as I'm learning to streamline my editing process a little bit more.
    Aiming to have one more episode out by the end of the month and then I'm going to take a short break to play some Yuri's Revenge. Still intend to finish the series by the end of March.
    Couple tiny errors I spotted: I had the 18th Div move against Treeline when they were actually still on the Taurian front. Should have been the 16th Div. I also referred to the new Pitkan Lancers as the Pitkin Legion towards the end. I must have been thinking of the similarly named Pitcairn Legion.

    I know the Pitcairn Legion are supposed to be seen as scrappy underdogs, using cunning and ingenuity to outwit the lumbering SLDF war machine, but upon reading it I couldn't help but picture it as a Bug's Bunny/Elmer Fudd cartoon.
    EDIT: I also don't think it's any coincidence that Forlough bears such a striking resemblance to Michael Ironside in "Starship Troopers."

      I never imagined the Pitcairn Legion as a ragtag group. They're more of an elite blackops team with the best equipment they're can be unofficially supplied with.
      And now that you've mentioned the Michael Ironside resemblance, it's so obvious to me I can't believe I didn't see it before.

      CGL has been using photographic references for all their portrait shots. Some... Significantly more obvious than others.

      Tell me about it. Me and a mate were looking through Liberation of Terra Part 2 the other day in fits of laughter. Some of those are full on uncanny valley. By contrast the sketches in the Reunification War and almost chiaroscuro moody portraits of Era Report 2750 and Lib of Terra 1 look great.

    One million dollar bounty? No C-Bills?
    Oh, right, this is pre-Comstar isnt it. That must be 1 million Star League dollars I assume.

    • @SvenVanDerPlank
      @SvenVanDerPlank  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Correct. There's actually a small note about C-Bills referring to Cameron-Bills in this period as a nice way to cover their slipups.

    Holy crap Furlough was a monster. Killing thousands of civilians for no reason is just horrific. No wonder the Periphery hates the inner sphere; their "liberation" and "unification" meant "do exactly as we say or you all die."

    • @SvenVanDerPlank
      @SvenVanDerPlank  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was definitely something that surprised me doing the research for this series. I'd only seen the Reunification War framed as a necessary evil to unify the Inner Sphere and incorporate all of humanity. Now I realise just how unjustified it was.
      The working title for the next episode was "Forlough Unleashed" because things are about to get crazy with him.

    • @BoisegangGaming
      @BoisegangGaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SvenVanDerPlank It's fascinating to me because it's like "what did they hope to accomplish? What did the periphery get out of being integrated into the Star League?" Even if they did end up folding, their economies would be in the dirt, massive amounts of their people would have died, and they would get... what? Would they even get a vote in the Star League, or would they have just been folded into the territories of whatever successor state they were adjacent to? If it was truly about unifying humanity under a single banner, the Star League had more than enough soft power through its economy to convince these states if they wanted to.
      Instead, it seems like senseless violence done for the sake of these states getting "revenge" on the periphery for daring to exist. After all, they couldn't fight each other in open warfare, but they sure could punch down.
      It's just horrible. I wouldn't classify battletech as "Grimdark", but it is pretty dark.
      But where's my fusion Power plant GM

      @evanhunt1863 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BoisegangGaming Yeah. The Reunification War was monstrous... and it created monsters. There's also an odd juxtaposition of Furlough killing countless innocents for petty revenge while in other parts of the Concordat, the Davions were causing fewer civilian deaths than the defenders.

    I would love to hear speculation on numbers. It seems to me there's enough precedent to be able to deduce what kind of forces we're available. Anyone can make up a general's name and say that drama happened and one of the sides did better than the other, but none of that involves what we really are here for which is giant metal war machines

    • @SvenVanDerPlank
      @SvenVanDerPlank  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you mean by that? There are explicit numbers implied by the units that are sent? An SLDF brigade is three regiments so you've got 100+ Mechs 100+ Tanks and some 1000 infantry. Maybe I've misunderstood you.

    • @dashiellgillingham4579
      @dashiellgillingham4579 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You didn’t come here for battlemechs. If you had, they couldn’t be replaced with swords or giant spiders or tanks or boats and still tell the exact same story. You came here for severely grounded military fiction, revolving around the struggles of nations and the people within them, as they try, desperately, to survive in a dark and uncertain age. You care about this because you might live through such a time, might have to feel these things and survive these struggles. You’re especially hungry for it because we are, right now, experiencing the kinds of things Battletech is talking about, as Ukraine slams every single adult man and scrap of ancient equipment within its boarders against an overwhelming invasion aimed at stripping its rights as an independent nation. This direct connection is the basis of literature theory, which I currently have an AS in and am working to upgrade.

  • @FirstNameLastName-okayyoutube

    Why is almost no numbers involved in this lore? It seems like a disconnect in the imagination of the writers of the lore period as if they've never played any of the games ever
