    This was super helpful. Now I know I'll never be classically trained, so I can just get on with my life and enjoy playing music as a hobby 😂

      @@juditherwinneville7797 has nothing to do with it not being "for" me. I'm 36, I'm not in a position to go to a prestigious art school and spend all of my time becoming a classically trained musician at this point in my life. I enjoy playing music and I enjoy the "work" that it requires, my comment was entirely about the fact that it's actually a bit of a relief to just accept that the level of skill he's talking about is literally not even a thing I can reasonably achieve, and instead can just enjoy music at my own level

    No wonder I've never mastered any instrument. Think I'll sign myself up for some private lessons and music camps to begin. God bless you fine sir.

    Viola power, one more to the pack! Subscribing right now! Great video, by the way. Summarized hours of my speeches in classes to my students, on the power of consistency and community. Thanks a lot!

    They learn slowly and don't practice mistakes.
    So, how many times a week would you change your strings at the conservatory, 7-8 hours a day playing, you must have had some rock like callouses as well.

    • @arthurross2974
      @arthurross2974  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Remember, we were all (well …most) poor college students. Usually when you had a big recital or chamber music show. And you do build up callouses, but not too bad. They affect the sound!

    Thank you, this was a very pleasant watch. There is something about your phrasing that just grabs my attention 😂
    If you go to conservatory to study composition, will the experience differ? In my mind, I imagine less practice, and that you must learn piano, and then lots of homework and theory. Is that accurate at all?
    (Not that I'm invested -- I am much too frail to go pro music 😂)

    • @arthurross2974
      @arthurross2974  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the compliment! At Eastman composition majors had to have a primary instrument other than piano. So they were kind of on the hook like the rest of us to some degree. Then they did have piano work to do, and yes… Lots of theory! But it was kind of assumed they would arrive with the theory knowledge to write.

    This was quite helpful!! I'm just a beginner on piano 🎹 and I need to know what it takes to get really good at my instrument. Now I've heard of a lot classical music musicians, but this is the first time I've heard of Arthur Ross and I'm glad I was enlightened!! The music 🎶 world is full of talented musicians and I'd like to hear Arthur play!! 😊

    One of the things that they don't do is waste time on social media. The great musicians also don't waste their time with pop music.

      If you are interested, the key is to determine what you want to do as a player, then seek out that knowledge specifically. Private instruction is the way to go, but make sure the person knows what you’re interested in. And don’t be afraid to ask them, if they have the ability and experience to teach you exactly what you want. Good luck! 👍
