He’s slating on to OSB but you are right I’d much prefers to slate onto a membranes board but the laths are better cos not so many holes in sarking. They do bounce at times though
It's for waterproofing, any water that gets through the join stream down the soaker... You should run a bead of silicone 2 inches from the middle join both sides. In the 1800's they used cement
Sorry guys, very expensive way of doing things. Wouldn’t last five minutes where I’m from. Wales , the home of the Worlds premium slate. Those hip fixings are way to flimsy to withstand real weather. 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah really helpful when you are on a roof 30 feet of the floor. Trying to walk up the slates in damp conditions. What a waste of internet space!!!!!!! How about doing something useful. Like showing how to spread weight when walking on the roof!!!!!?
slating on plywood is a blessing, slating on laths is a nightmare when they bounce

cost a fortune in copper soakers plus ridge?
You should cut the corner of the slate.
Boston hip only need 2 nails.
Supposed to cut on side to but to the other .
Then do reverse. ?
Am i wrong
when i put plywood i always battens too the roof last longer with the air gap
Plus you don’t puncture the felt with the nails
What was the point of doing close miter hips if your going to put a copper soakers plus slates for hips
Na look closer, they’ve done two different hip to show :)

What do you do with the ends of the copper star ridge?
Probably cut an end cap to fit and then either rivet it or solder it into place.
Joe Jenkins That's what I thought. Thanks for the reply. I think I may try this.
Beginners Slater you are.

I prefer the roofing cement method, this method is looks very unprofessional. who uses a drill to install slate?
Cause roofing cement on slate isn't "unprofessional" at all..............
His drill bit is to long ‘ what are these guys at 😳
Lead soakers far cheaper!
Those mitred are so bad....
