Such a crass statement,no matter that you try to "soften" your criticism! This song is totally about praise to the Almighty God,not to satisfy your petty perception of style and rendition! It is not for your selfish entertainment specifically.This is praise to our Creator!
In manrico29's defense (4 years after the fact), he's referring to the arrangement, which is a drastic change from the original way it was written....I'm glad he praises the singer, because Gladys Knight does a wonderful job here; and I don't share his disdain for the changes, but it's OK to not care for a musical adaptation like this....
This is absolutely insulting against The Messiah. I do not mean the singer, whom I find to have a great voice and good singing style, but to the inspiring composition of G. F. Haendel., which, in my humble understanding, demands to be performed in the traditional style to fully reveal its transcedental beauty. Please hear Marylin Horne and Isobel Baillie to see what I mean.
