      It's not like it's a very original idea, eh? What he's saying makes sense, theoretically speaking. But he's able to think and behave and preach his so-called wisdom that way because circumstances allow it. All I see is a content and healthy adult male with a decent income living in a highly developed country saying "life doesn't really matter". It does start to matter though when it kicks you in the balls. I see no real willpower, courage and determination behind that facade of his. Just my impression though.

      I see what you're saying, some people are just lucky, he probably had a really good upbringing and supportive parents and some people like me who was raised by a struggling single mother and toxic family members, have to work hard to get out of a bad situation to have a better life. Life is what you make it I guess, you either you sink or swim. You can have a good life if you want to. Some people have to work harder than others. Life is beautiful nonetheless, but sometimes the situations we go through make us think otherwise.

    Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I am a 63year old European Lady trying to live more and more minimalistic. To tell the truth , it isn’t easy all the times and a lot of times I fail. But what you are talking about is exactly what I am thinking. Often I have that feeling when talking to young people they don’t understand me. I will share this video to all those. Thank You so much. I never understood the obsession with success, wealth, purpose, or even meaning!? the fact that you are part of creation and society, that alone makes you worthy! everything in life has meaning. Just because you are better off financially, emotionally, and health wise then others, it doesn't mean you are spiritually!! spiritual wealth in my humble opinion is the key to the universal door of life.

    Sena, I think most of us feel this when we are youngsters, I always believed something amazing would happen as I grew older, something wonderful was waiting for me just around the corner. I’m now 58 years old & I realise my time that I thought this phenomenon would happen has come & gone. I feel a little disappointed, almost cheated out of my dream for the future but what was it that I expected? I still don’t know & probably never will, I think it’s just how a young person thinks & feels in their youth. To me now the only things that do matter are being as healthy as you can be & living to your own best potential. My only true regret that I have is veering off my own ideal path many times in my life to please others people, friends or family..I often wonder what my life would’ve been like if I had stuck to my original chosen path & not allowed myself to be side- tracked, now that might have been wonderful. You are right though nothing really matters, it is for the moment & then we move on.

    Hey man I’m so happy that you came to the realization the money and ambition doesn’t bring true happiness, purpose or fulfillment! But on the other hand life and the things we do are not meaningless! We truly can change the world even by reaching out and impacting one person’s life in a positive way! I don’t know if you’re religious or not but I believe that loving God and having fellowship with Christ Jesus as well as loving one another is our true purpose in life! Just like “Cupcakes Viola” commented! That’s what we were made for, contrary to what we society tells us to strive after wealth and fame! But this couldn’t be more further from the truth! We weren’t created just to live for ourselves and care only about ourselves and our own happiness. That doesn’t mean we d as shouldn’t enjoy life and this beautiful world God has made! But we should always love one another and place others before ourselves! God bless you all.

    • @Saber23

      But the kind of thinking in this video is what drives people to suicide it’s complete nihilism

    • @thomasbaker6720
      @thomasbaker6720 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Saber23 Becoming too attached to worldly outcomes and possessions leads to despair. If we can become detached from the outcomes of life, then we can become indifferent to what happens to us. This is much easier said than done, however, I think as we age and attain more life experience then we begin to realize how short life is which makes it easier to exercise detachment.

    • @Saber23
      @Saber23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomasbaker6720 I never said you had to be completely attached to worldly outcomes or material things I’m actually very adamantly against materialism but saying “nothing you do will ever matter” is basically saying that the detachment you practice doesn’t matter the minimalism you practice doesn’t matter and NOTHING matters which is a dangerous stance as it leads to nihilism and you can’t just say “I create my own meaning” cause that existentialist stance is circular I hope that clarified my stance brother 🙏

    • @thomasbaker6720
      @thomasbaker6720 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Saber23 Yes you did thanks for clarification. I agree with you, you need something meaningful to attach this paradigm to or it can very easily lead to nihilism. For me it happens to be Orthodox Christianity. The Desert Fathers encouraged worldly detachment and living minimal. They themselves dwelt in isolation in caves in the Egyptian desert with no possessions or worldly attachments and found an incredibly meaningful and fulfilled life in the austerity of the desert.

    I always believe I'm doing a good job at work, but I was never promoted. I thought something was wrong with me, that I don't have 'visibility'. Being an introvert at the back of my head, I know that was not me. Then one time I heard an applicant said truthfully, she genuinely doesn't want to get promoted which caught me by surprise at that time. I came to realized promotion is not for everyone and it may not be for me. it's happy to hear others also think the same way.

    So glad I found you! Everything you say is so meaningful and something I need to hear! I appreciate you saying that the only limitation we have is within ourselves. It was Ghandi who said. "Become the change you want to see." You speak about that so eloquently in your video. Most of all I appreciate the truth that we are the ones that decide whether what we are doing or feeling is meaningful and not everyone else around us. We arrive, enjoy, and depart as you say, and as I reach my senior years I am trying to appreciate every little moment knowing that once it's over it's over and only I can decide how to live this one and only life I've been given. I think that is why i enjoyed and managed to be able to look after my mom for 8 years. That experienced made me such a better person and i could never think or imagined being a minimalist is such an important factor in life. I learned to appreciate little things in life and being happy within. That way it will reflect on my mom. ☺️🙏 she is now in heaven with my dad. I know my dad taught me well. Uncertainty of the future is what's exciting about the future. We are often unhappy because most of us carry the heavy baggage of the future rather than enjoying the present moment. If you have a state of mind that can accept what happens, you can stop being unhappy. Find happiness within yourself not outside world that we dont have control over.

    I find a lot of meaning in any action that I can take that will improve the lives of others and reduce suffering of myself and others. Outside of that, so much of the things we worry about are meaningless. I have only discovered your channel but I would be interest to hear your thoughts of having a family and if it's ok to choose to not have children.
