I'm not a member of the Roman Catholic Church but I have always found MSM to be such a magnificent church building. Evokes so much about The Bank, the EEP pubs all the MSM football teams and the Irish folk in Leeds. Looking at the dereliction inside brought a tear. So sad.
I explored here probably similar time to you. Did you go in the basement? …with the broken stairwell? There’s something in there and it does not like guests.
Beautiful vid! Pugin's finest Irish work(St. Marys cathedral, Killarney) is just 5 min's walk from where I live. It was also used as a fever hospital, as was the nearby asylum. Must get vid's of these places. Thanks for the share *****
Oh no! I can't believe the state the church is in. You can still see the lingering beauty of the place, I wish someone could put it back to how it was. I went to Mount St. Mary's school upto 1990, and was there when they closed the church (I think it was 1989). As a many times attender on the various school occasions I can attest to the churches' interior beauty when it was functioning. One of the teachers used to play the organ for the hymns during mass, it made a beautiful sound.
Such a tragedy. My parents were married in this church. I along with my brother made our first holy communion & were alter boys in this church. I know time moves on but the way in which the beautiful history of this church has been left to decay is such a waste.
apparently it was built on an open Mine, that's why it was always freezing cold and now its deemed as unsafe for safety reasons. Good at least it's not swallowing money like it used to do. I always wondered how our local priest could actually afford Golf every week. mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I totally agree, it really is a spectacular piece of history.
It is a sad state of affairs.
My parent were married here in 1959, as were several of my uncles and aunts.
Why is this beautiful building not listed? Anywhere but Leeds and it would be!
