When I played Pokemon Blue the first time as a kid in 1998, Pidgeot was my last surviving Pokemon when I defeated the Rival in the Top4, it finished off the Rival's Venusaur with a Wing Attack. Hey Scott, did you know there is ONE way to delete an HM from a Pokémon's moveset. The condition is your Pokémon still has a move to learn by level up. Drop the Pokémon at the day care, possibly a few EXP before the level it learns its new move, one the Pokémon has grown to the level it learns a new move, the first move in its moveset is deleted.
Probably useless in these solo runs but still pretty cool.

This was a satisfying run to watch, even if Pidgeotto wasn’t that good. I tend to prefer the slow and steady approach more, prioritizing consistency, rather than going for sheer luck.
As for the Poké Maniac that greets you in Rock Tunnel, I’d name him Sloan: Slo- as in his Slowpoke and the -oan as in Cubone (this is more phonetic, but I thought it was pretty clever.)
Also a spoiler: I like that Pidgeotto is a Flying type that didn’t need to use Double Team to beat Giovanni! Always nice when that happens.

Two name suggestions for the Pokemaniac in Rock Tunnel: the Slowbone Maniac, or the Mud Maniac. The first because it is fun to say and an on-brand level of juvenile, the second because he is not noteworthy for any particular strategy he wanted the fusing, but because the particular type combination he uses is annoying for a wider variety of Pokemon than most random trainers... water, and ground. Here's am explanation for why physical moves hit ghost types:
In order for the ghosts to actually hit other pokemon, they have to materialize, since ghosts can't usually interaxt with the physical world. Normal type is the exception both ways because they are opposites, so the farthest from the ghosts immaterial bodies.

Pidgeotto is actually my favorite pokemon. Not that it's great in battle, but it was the first pokemon I saw that I was really impressed with when I first saw the anime. It was the mt moon episode. Pikachu looked weird, Zubat was... just a blue bat. Staryu was sort of interesting, meowth was just a talking cat... But Pidgeotto looked so cool to me (even though it's just a bird with neat hair). I liked it more than its final evolution since I felt that look seemed a bit too chunky appearing. It's cool to see some of the strategy you use with Pidgeotto!
Also regarding the Pokemaniac... How about Manny the Maniac? Just for alliteration, no real reason otherwise.

First time I ever did a Nuzlocke was on the Yellow Virtual Console entry when it came to the 3DS. I didn't realise species clause covered the whole family, so I thought for example, that if you encountered Caterpie on Route 2, then Metapod in Viridian Forest, they wouldn't activate the Species Clause so they would both count as your encounters.
I didn't realise the Nuzlocke starts when you get Pokeballs, so I thought I blew through my route 1 encounter. My route 22 encounter was Spearow, my route 2 encounter was Pidgey, and would you believe, but my very first encounter in Viridian Forest was Pidgeotto and I actually managed to catch it when my Pikachu had just 1HP left. This meant my team for Brock was Pikachu, Spearow, Pidgey and Pidgeotto, and I was so pleased of my sand attack/growl/tail whip strategy that managed to get by without any casualties. I kept the Pidgeotto right up until Giovanni where he wiped out my whole team.

I always thought it was a cool that you could find one at level 9 in Viridian Forest in Pokémon Yellow in yet another nod to the anime. I mentioned that as a kid, I always grinded my Pikachu to level 20 (one tradition I still keep alive on all Yellow playthroughs to this day), but back in the day, I also always caught a level 6 Caterpie (to grind and evolve into a Butterfree, which I still do on all playthroughs), a Mankey with Low Kick and Pidgeotto. I never really used any of them outside of the Butterfree for even the early game, but they made it easier to get the 10 Pokémon needed to get Flash, so that made one leg of my journey easier.

I've come to prefer every other Kanto bird, especially Doduo, but Pidgeotto does remain in my heart as part of my first ever Pokémon team (Ivysaur, Beedrill, Raichu, Dugtrio, Vaporeon and Pidgeotto). Said Pidgeotto also knew Razor Wind because I insisted that such a cool sounding attack must be good... it was not.
1:16 - That's an interesting stat trivia. It would also explain why the Pidgey line never came across as too great compared to the other birds, but at least it's Special stat serves some purpose in being it's Special Defence as well.
4:16 - Oh yeah, Jolteon has Thunder instead of Magneton with it's Thunderbolt. It's risky to bank on it but a chance to miss being hit by Thunder is certainly the better of the two options.
7:57 - Never understood why the likes of Sand Attack or Confuse Ray could hit Flying and Normal types respectively. What's the point of giving status moves a type if they don't effect things.
10:09 - Your delivery of this joke was perfect. Thanks for the good laugh and sorry about your misfortune.
11:41 - Funny thing about the Pidgey line's move-set is that it doesn't get much better in terms of diversity in later games. I'm also trying to think of what moves the Pidgey could have been given back in Gen 1, TM or otherwise, that would have been both handy and make sense but I'm struggling to think of any. Double Kick and Blizzard would have been a stretch but maybe; perhaps even Submission. I still think Razor Wind should have been a Dragon move.
12:50 - I don't know why but my first thought was Scully. To be fair, Rapping Lass is technically not a name either; more of a title. He's the one who says the "Game Over" line I believe so perhaps the Gamer Maniac? Both his Pokémon are very slow so maybe Sluggish Maniac instead?
17:02 - That 60 Special surprisingly being useful. Good on Mid the sand chucking Pidgeotto for besting the fully evolved Electric type with only a 4 level difference.
24:02 - Out of context, it's hilarious hearing how your strategy involves not levelling up in the midst of battle. You're stronger by not gaining experience and learning. It's been interesting watching this run with Pidgeotto as you've been so careful and meticulous with this first run to the point that I'm unsure how you would improve things on a second go.
29:59 - Good old reliable Mimic; been a while since I watched one of your videos where that came into play but Pidgeotto needs something for it's moveset. An yes, I can imagine Rhydon being the biggest obstacle for Flying and Normal only bird.
31:05 - Pidgeotto's tanking of Rock Slides and Thunderbolts in this run has been impressive.
35:26 - Given Aerodactyl waiting around the corner, it did seem like Hydro Pump would have been the better option here. Of course, said move isn't handy for the Dragons and you'd have to hope Fly would be enough for them. Really tricky to figure out until you've had a chance to experiment. 35:55 or you can steal Ice Beam which is significantly better here.
43:07 - I didn't think there would be much you could do to improve your time but these earlier Rare Candies to have a quick win over the roadblock that was Blaine looks like you'll be making significant improvements.
47:35 - Again, really surprised and impressed you managed to make improvements given how optimal you were doing things in your first run.
49:08 - Wow, Pidgeotto did so poorly that you noticed an error with Pidgeot and ended up placing it lower on the Tier List.

So in the Gen 1 days, Pidgeotto was my favorite, with Butterfree and Dragonite behind, all because of the Anime. Fast-forward to Gen 2, I'm walking around with a trio that are to-this-day my 5 favorites-- Croconaw, Sneasel, Lugia, Suicune and Ampharos. For whatever reason, I find myself back in Viridian Forest, where I encounter my first-ever legit random shiny... Pidgey. Hey Scott, do you EVER fight the trainers in the maze south of Lavender Town/east of Fuscia? I'm just randomly remembering a question someone asked a few months ago about the least-fought trainers, and I don't think I've ever seen you battle those guys.

On the topic of regional birds, part of me wonders how Noctowl and Swellow will handle their respective regions. Wonder if pre-poisoning strats would be allowed for the latter to abuse Guts.

    Might I make a tiny suggestion? :3
When putting up the time between playthroughs, would it be a good idea have the "- Time" be in green, and have "+ Time" be in red?
Here, pigeotto had a faster second run, and I'd argue displaying it's -9:35 real time, it's -9 resets and -0:16 game time in green would seem better and clearer than having it in red.
But lovely video as always, and already looking forward to the next! Cheers!

I never had a Pidgeotto playing R/B as a kid. I always preferred Spearow. You could catch it at level 5 and peck was super handy for all the bug and grass types you encounter in the early-game.

Good job on your videos :) Your layouts are dope.

I remember caching a Pidgeotto in the forest in Pokémon Yellow, and I was so excited! However, even as a small child I quickly realized by mid game how trash this Pokémon actually is. He was basically a dead weight, low level fly muel by Vermillion city.

Every time I play Generations 1 or 2 I usually use a Pokémon from the Pidgey line as my flier. Turns out I was looking at it through rose tinted glasses, but the game definitely gave it a hard time with that move set too.

do you think there would ever be a need for separate tier lists for first stage second stage and third stage Pokémon? or would it get too confusing because of single stage Pokémon and Pokémon that only evolve once.

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  ปีที่แล้ว

I thought about this, but I came to the conclusion that I like to see theinteraction between first-stage Pokemon and final stage Pokemon. It's interesting seeing just how back Hitmonchan is and how strong Poliwag and Bellsprout are when compared with the likes of Arcanine and Rapidash!

On my very first playthrough on pokemon blue, i caught a level 2 pidgey as my first new pokemon. Unfamiliar with the game I went into the rename menu, but i didn't want to actually give it a name. Being very young at the time, i tried to spell it the name as best as i could...
And so began the legend of piggy the bird pokemon. Piggy stayed with me the whole game, and for some reason i chose not to evolve it (like my own Pikachu).
Pretty much every game i play when i can catch a pidgey, I'll now name it piggy.
Piggy was also the only pokemon i transferred through to my silver version and used, though i did start evolving it in silver from level 80

Agility raises your speed right, so does it up critical when your maxed out or else critical hits only depend on base speed of the pokemon ? I always wanted to know this because if it raises critical like how im hoping it could make some crappy mons better like this pigeotto , agility , reflect , sand attack , rest, could be some useful for this no move bird. Sky attack for a flying move? I would

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  ปีที่แล้ว

Critical hit chance is determined with base speed, not the Pokémon’s current speed. Using agility does not up the crit rate.
