Another nickname I heard for notion rain was something that someone got into trouble for singing constantly during draft “I cast the rains down in Ravnica”
Thank you! I have to use that one myself now. The hard part though will be not accidentally saying Africa instead. Although, now I really want Rain of Tears to get a re-print.
41:30 My coworker did the VFX (which everybody calls "animations" for some reason?) for Mnemonic Betrayal on Arena, and I'm very glad it gets the recognition it does! So cool!
Only works cause escape became a keyword 5 sets later but the inescapable blaze is indeed escap-able and if ever escape returns on an uncounterable burn spell we have our name
I'm a little peeved that "Two Elves in an overcoat" didn't make it in for the one centaur, and then Paul suggested the same joke, but I am stoked that I got a few in as Toastasaurus Rex.
Bugberry here. For the record, I tried to avoid Ass Trophy and went with "Your Ass is Grass". I feel kind of guilty for Dance Dance Execution getting in, because I specifically got that from the reddit page for that card's spoiler. Actually, I remember commenting on that person comment that that would make a good LRR nickname, and Graham responded to me that it might. All in all, this was great. I also really appreciate the Avatar references.
When you said 'Muse featuring Drake', I first thought it was a reference to μ's (the band name in Love Live) That would be... A fair bit different. Also, the credit for "This DM Screen Is Too Big" also goes to the jokey pre-translated names, like Final Bortune
How did noone suggest "Oprah" for beamsplitter mage? "Look under your seat! You get a sure strike, YOU get a sure strike, EVERYONE GETS A SURE STRIKE!"
Glaive is also an old word for a sword, it's literally the first definition that comes up when you google it, and Volkan Baga isn't a native English speaker. People have been way too upset about this.
Also, the name could have been changed after they got the art. Dunno if it was missed or they decided to use the old definition, but names aren't final when an artist gets their prompt, at least not for an uncommon equipment with no story importance.
But not for centuries. That version of glaive evolved into the word gladius. If they had called this Gladius of the Guildpact (which they totally had time to change the name), no one would have batten an eye.
@ 20:15 I wonder how many people realized the layers I had with this. Not only does it flow. Not only is it "which card" which you are discovering a card. The first part "Which Card?" is answered by the 2nd part "Dis Card." The 2 halves start with the same first three letters "dis" so it is "Dis" Card. Also the last bit makes you DisCard.
I know I said this in the comments of the last TTC, but I'll say it again here: In future, you probably shouldn't leave the submission form up for so long. Cap it at a week; possibly less, but definitely not more.
I think Wisconsin crab is a Seth, praaaabably better known SaffronOlive mispronunciation Also I get people won't, but I think it's supposed to be Voyek bodyguard
Kudos to nelson for that deep kvaldir raider hearthstone(I assume) cut. I see you. Or maybe kvalir raider was referencing something? That's probably the case actually.
I worked too hard on this to let it go into the wind, so here was my nickname for Ral Zarek: Ral Ral Ral Zar-ek, Viceroy of the Izzet League There was a cat that could nag your thoughts Ral Ral Ral Zar-Ek, Izzet’s Beacon Bolt machine You’ll win the game when his emblem is on!
55:48 "Dilan, you son of a bitch" is what Arnold says to Carl Weathers in Predator before they clasp their hands together just like how they are in the art of Sworn Companions.
I have been anticipating this because I can't stop reading Etrata as Errata. EDIT: Nice to see everyone got there. Maybe Phyrexian Artist for Midnight Reaper.
dividing up the letters is a great idea, but it does cut up naming a cycle of cards similarly, like some that have been done in the past. The lockets could've been a really cool cycle of medals or look at the times, but the cohesion fell just short, and and the guildgates were pretty poor besides the sporedoor. That being said, this is the best nickname podcast I've seen in a while, and if this quality costs that little bit of cohesion in a minority of cards, I think this is going to be absolutely amazing in future.
i guess my suggestions got lost? as I suggested Spellvish Piper as well (and even mentioned it to Graham a while before and he did a chefs kiss) and i suggested a non-ass trophy nickname for assassin's trophy?
I think I finally remember why I gave Arclight Phoenix 'Triple Tap' as a name, possibly because of Destiny? you get three shot and a free one after... took me a few hours to remember because it's been so long since I tried those. On one hand I wanted to do one for each card and felt a little bad when I stopped at maybe the letter C, on the other it sounds like you had more then enough suggestions to go through without me stretching for a lot of cards
I love that LRR asked for help with the nicknames, and they got SO much help, that it was even more work. We're helping!
It's just Dale saying "I'm a helper" on a large scale haha
32:36 I am pretty sure Giant Spider in Spanish is Ariana Grande.
My suggestion for assassin's trophy was 'atrophy' which means to degenerate or waste away, but I guess it got lost in all the ass-trophies.
Or just "petrify." Would ya believe that name isn't taken?
@@LyricBent Could use that for Vraska's Contempt, Golden Demise, or Statue.
@@LyricBent It isn't? How the heck is that not taken already? Come on, Wizards.
mine was "Bury target permanent (under a land)"
I feel like the nickname should be something like "Man, they keep pushing creatures, they really don't print any good spells anymore."
Glad you kept the stinger at the end with Nelson rapping. That was great.
Rains of Castamere
do my eyes deceive me? its finally here?
as a person who plays alot of standard, the nickname the area has adopted for deafening clarion is "Both Modes"
"Dylan you sonofabitch" was the line just before the epic handshake.
My playgroup has “Where in the world is Lazav the Multifarious” and we sing it like the Carmen SanDiego theme
We also call Vraska Golgari Glen Ross
Golgari glen ross is really good
I rewatched so many TTC nickname episodes to find that Beast Whisperer nickname again. Did not disappoint.
My personal favorite nickname is for Dream Eater:
(To the tune of MGS3's SnakeEater)
🎶I'm still in in a snake, DREEEAM EEEEEATER!🎶
Fun fact: Of the 189 Pokémon that learn Dream Eater, none of them (except for the arguable exception of Dunsparce) are snakes.
41:30 My coworker did the VFX (which everybody calls "animations" for some reason?) for Mnemonic Betrayal on Arena, and I'm very glad it gets the recognition it does! So cool!
Radical Idea -- The intersection in the Venn Diagram of Michelangelo the Renaissance man and Michelangelo the ninja turtle.
Deadly Visit really caught me off guard. I really shouldn't drink while watching nickname podcasts.
Disappointed that nobody said "Kali Ma!" for "Take Heart"
There was a card in Amonkhet block (some black discard effect) that probably got that name.
43:00 “Jumping Jellyfish” is a Spongebob reference.
Additional nickname for Enhanced Surveillance: the Patriot Act.
My submission was "Just spy harder!"

I definitely misread Wishcoin Crab as "Wisconsin Crab" the first time I saw it.
How did noone suggest "Oprah" for beamsplitter mage? "Look under your seat! You get a sure strike, YOU get a sure strike, EVERYONE GETS A SURE STRIKE!"
And there goes my hopes of getting any sleep tonight...As Alex would say : PISS!
The flight of the bumblebee is a reference to your friday night videos from like 5 years ago.
I'm trying really hard to be all cynical and world-weary, but the art for Sworn Companions inspires the shit out of me.
Right? It's so nice seeing two people just being supportive and willing to help each other out with no ulterior motive in a set like Guilds.
I think Final Bortune was a nickname made up by Scryfall when the card didn't have a name yet.
5:28 Kathleen is just as mature as me!
11:36 When Chance for Glory was first spoiled, it was in a foreign language and got translated to "Final Bortune"
It didn't get translated to that, they couldn't translate the name so that was the nickname they gave it based on the colors and the mechanics.
I am more proud of getting in this podcast than my first job or graduation
Disinformation campaign could also be: Ravnican Whispers
Alternative for Ral is “Ral Zerek 2: Electric Boogaloo”
I like spice8rack’s “This homosexual is homoelectrical!”
15:20 Come on: "You've heard of elf on the shelf, now get ready for 'Assassin on the mezzanine'" is the goal here (i think).
Rosemane Centaur: Strong enough for a centaur, sensitive enough for a rose.
I loved Nelson's ability to recall Snow's lyrics.
Do you not know what Fahrenheit 451 is? A famous book in which books are made illegal and burned
Would have been a better story if they used dogs to eat the books instead.
He sounded iffy because the 4/5 joke was kinda loose at best. He knew the reference, or else he wouldn't have picked it.
Bookie Monster was clearly the better joke.
Nick Schmucker He was hesitant because the 1 in the nickname doesn’t really fit not because he didn’t get it
@@ladsworld He picked "bookie monster"

"I don't think you people understand how clever I am, let me explain..."
@@StarkMaximum I actually meant that question seriously. I'm just proud of the name. I didn't mean negatively imply others were not clever.
I know I said this in the comments of the last TTC, but I'll say it again here: In future, you probably shouldn't leave the submission form up for so long. Cap it at a week; possibly less, but definitely not more.
I think Wisconsin crab is a Seth, praaaabably better known SaffronOlive mispronunciation
Also I get people won't, but I think it's supposed to be Voyek bodyguard
Goblin Cratermaker: Eldrazi Kamikaze
Everytime I see Devkarin Dissident, I read Dovahkiin Descendant.
I love how musical this episode is.
Many of this set's cards work wonderfully as Hearthstone references. For example, Whisper Agent = "disguised toast".
You've heard of "Elf on the Shelf," now get ready for "Darkblade on the Balustrade."
Kudos to nelson for that deep kvaldir raider hearthstone(I assume) cut. I see you.
Or maybe kvalir raider was referencing something? That's probably the case actually.
Woot! I was worried I had missed this. Spent time this weekend trying to see if it had snuck out :) lol
I got one of my nicknames on this one! Now if everyone wouldn't mind, my Phenax Commander deck needs a tune up.
Eater Of The Dead!!!!!
GET THIS CARD
GET IT
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I wasn't fast enough to submit "pisty fisty break your wristies"
"I'm not going to read out 17 different names" -- Graham, on the episode where they are reading out 249 different names
I worked too hard on this to let it go into the wind, so here was my nickname for Ral Zarek:
Ral Ral Ral Zar-ek, Viceroy of the Izzet League
There was a cat that could nag your thoughts
Ral Ral Ral Zar-Ek, Izzet’s Beacon Bolt machine
You’ll win the game when his emblem is on!
55:48 "Dilan, you son of a bitch" is what Arnold says to Carl Weathers in Predator before they clasp their hands together just like how they are in the art of Sworn Companions.
I think the rhyme for Darkblade Agent was supposed to be “you’ve heard of Elf on a Shelf. Now get ready for… Sleuth in a Booth.”
I'm very proud of mine for Expansion//Explosion: Sphinx's Red
Finally, the fabled nicknames are upon us!
I'm a huge fan of "atrophy" as the nickname of Assassin's Trophy. It's super flavorful to the Golgari.
That was actually a remarkably good Serge voice.
For Midnight Reaper I suggest singing "The Joker" by Steve Miller Band "I'm a mid-night Reaper, I get my drawing on the run"
The Crab is called Wisconsin Crab because of Seth(probably better known as Saffron Olive) who you should get on a pre pre release, please.
There are three kinds of glaives, the polearm, the midlength sword, and the throwing disk.
I told Card Kingdom LRR sent me, and even thought there's no more buttons I got a very nice goat token!
I have been anticipating this because I can't stop reading Etrata as Errata.
EDIT: Nice to see everyone got there.
Maybe Phyrexian Artist for Midnight Reaper.
No, it's called FLIGHT of the Valkyries to annoy any of you that care about misquotes.
Notion Rain, you draw cards and then you'll feel the pain, Notion Rain, put two cards into the bin again, Notion Rain
51:10 Oh hey, original "It's Magic!" reference.
Not sure if Graham caught that tbh, but that's understandable.
14:05 "Localized entirely within your game of kitchen table Magic!?"
As a resident of Wisconsin I can say we are not really known for crab. More like brats, beer and Harley Davidson.
For Dream Eater, I would go with the MGS switcheroo: "Lost in a snake, Dream Eater" (ba ba BA ba)
dividing up the letters is a great idea, but it does cut up naming a cycle of cards similarly, like some that have been done in the past. The lockets could've been a really cool cycle of medals or look at the times, but the cohesion fell just short, and and the guildgates were pretty poor besides the sporedoor.

My suggestion for Lotleth Giant was "Grave Merchant", which still only kinda works.
Wooooh, FINALLY!
How was Midnight Reaper's nickname not "Maurice?" (whaaa-wooow)
ooooh, goodie, it's here. now to sit down and find out if any of mine made the cut.
The "Dillon, you son of a b****" line is indeed from Predator.
44:00 - Notion Rain, or a Keanu Reeves "Woah" (like from The Matrix)
I will find a way to fill any void with dong jokes
38:54 I didn’t submit any names but this one makes me think “It might be a Lotleth Giant but it’s a lot more zombie”.
i guess my suggestions got lost? as I suggested Spellvish Piper as well (and even mentioned it to Graham a while before and he did a chefs kiss) and i suggested a non-ass trophy nickname for assassin's trophy?
Yay, my name for Book Devourer got second choice, but yeah, "Bookie Monster", is the clear winner.
Alternate for Trostani Discordant: "I like my Sanity, thank you very much" (b/c it's last ability negates creature theft, including itself! :v)
Connive is "Can I've that",
Sonic Assault is just beatbox noises,
Tajic is DLC armour
I may have been the one with the Lazav names... should've been doing homework but this was much more fun
Spider-spy, Spider-spy
Spies on things with its spider eyes
Does surveil
Make it grow?
You tell me
I dunno
Look out
There may be a spider-spy
I wish Murmuring Mystic had been called Vanko, after the villain in Iron Man 2, because of how many times he says he wants a bird.
1:01:42
“BITES ZA DUSTO!”
Piston-Fist Cyclops: You did what in your fist?!?!
Ehm actually spider in esperanto is araneo strangely enough though i don't remember the grammar rules anymore despite them being so easy
Well, the only definite article is "la" anyways, so it didn't have a chance from the first word. (and I mostly don't remember them either :p)
I started with each card, then just went through and filled in the ones that has popped into my head at other times
Rubblebelt Boar: Dentists hate her for these 4 weird tips!
Kudos to Graham for getting so close pronouncing my last name.
I can't believe they start the episode telling us to not fill the dong void
I had Return 2 Dust 2 for Crush Contraband. I love that spell.
Hellkite Whelp can also be called Gloryspitter. :3
“Bolt the Bird!!!” Best name ever!!!
So who put in the notion rain one? Was it a Musical Marauder? Hmmmm?
Hey, Graham, when's Shadows Over Innistrad nicknames episode?
Woo! One of my nicknames made it through! ^_^
For what it's worth, I'm not familiar with the works of either Muse or Drake :P
CodenameJD muse is known for “resistance”
I dont remember writing wand of vertebrae...
But I was proud of Nightveil Sprite.
Got 2! Hell yea! Good to finally see this as well :)
They chose my suggestion for Nullhide Ferox and Trostani Discordant. Is good day my friends.
