Alpine Moon does remove Tron because it checks if you control lands with the land types "Urza's Tower" "Urza's Power-Plant" and "Urza's Mine." Otherwise it would be worded "if you control a land named"
Yeah, Alpine Moon isn't a good sideboard in anything because it's good against exactly one deck. MTG Errata generally tries to maintain the original intent of the card. If looking for types works better or closer to original intent with tron-lands, why not do it that way?
Alpine Moon absolutely does hose Tron completely. It removes the Land Type (e.g. Urza's Tower has land type Urza's Tower), which is what the lands check to see if the condition of controlling all 3 is met. Tron cannot tap any of its lands for 2 or 3 until they remove the Alpine Moon naming one piece.

When it comes to the Kobe/Yeet debate, Kobe is for accuracy and Yeet is for distance/power. So therefore, I think Lava Axe should be Kobe (can only hit one target) and Thud should be Yeet (potentially more damage but you don't know where it's gonna go.) Also, I'm glad Amazing Horse made it in for one of the horses.
8:18 - "Why do creature tokens get -1/-0, that seems tacked on" - I think the idea is that the first ability hoses Grapeshot, while the second ability hoses Empty the Warrens...
I forgot about all of the nicknames I put in (except for Time Walking Stick, which sounds like it was pretty common). Really glad Into the Maw of Heck made it too.
I greatly enjoy these, and I thank you for the effort involved in making them. I also think crowdsourcing nicknames is a great idea, and hope that continues as well. Cheers!
My Goblin Trashmaster one is: Danny Devito impression: I'm the Trashman. Infernal Reckoning just makes me think of an episode of Dragon Ball Z Abridged where one of the villains is huge and keeps squeezing Goku and making him squeak...so my nickname for it is "Let's see if we can make you squeak..."
Holy crap! I didn't think I got any on the list this time. Everyone's submissions were so good, but then I got two back to back. Thanks again for polling the Chat, LRR. It helps to feel like part of the team.
Hell yeah! I got a couple! -Doomed dissenter -Herald of Faith -Horizon Scholar -Skyrider Patrol -Valiant Knight (Thanks Kathleen) Also, stuff I suggested but also other people got -Djinn of Wishes -Bone to Ash -Declare Dominance -Graveyard Marshal Great episode, was a lot of fun participating!
Sucky clock is actually my 16 year old sister's name for her new favorite card in her sucky (vampire) deck. . . . I did a victory dance when I heard gram attributing that to me.☺☺☺
My favorite thing about Ajani's Last Stand is how it interacts with an opponent's Nicol Bolas, the Ravager. You can discard it to Nicky's ETB trigger, giving you a perfect counter to it (until Op ponies up 7 mana)
You say "Bone Dragon" when you cast it, then say "Is reeeady" at the start of you next upkeep. Bonus points if you carry the 'goonnnnnnn...' all the way through your opponent's turn.
currently "top-deck-lethal clap clap clap clap clap" is no longer the current button... its now "Timeout Used" in reference to timeouts in magic the gathering: arena
I feel like the flip side of Nicol Bolas's nickname should've been the full "Behold! The field in which I grow my f*cks. Lay thine eyes upon it and thou shalt see that it is barren"
Amulet of Safekeeping shuts down both of modern Storm’s main wincons. The first ability stops grapeshot, the second stops the tokens from empty the warrens
Amulet of Safekeeping deals with tokens so it stops all storm win conditions, with the first ability dealing with grapeshot and the second ability deals with Empty the Warrens.
34:35 I mean, frills like that are normally a defensive feature, so they mean there's something even bigger in that ecosystem that preys on the serpents.
On Planeswalker deck cards: "No one likes them." I like them. The Aggressive Mammoth is in my mono-green standard deck in Arena. It could be that I just need to find a better card, but it gives my team trample and that has won me a few games.
Tezzeret grafting the bridge into himself can be seen on his new Planeswalker card, where his ultimate is "You get an emblem with 'on your end step, activate Planar Bridge for free'".
DaMullet The Bridge was seen to be destroyed at the end of Aether Revolt, as seen on the card Dark Intimations, so the other possibility was that he took the plans and made a new one. I don't remember where but it was reiterated somewhere during the Ixalan story that Tezzeret had it grafted to him.
Remember that the original version was just a special metal ring dropped over a vase, before Rashmi was isntructed to make the bigger version. The ring probably is just a focus for the effect, which Tezzeret can do using his artifice magic instead.
A very long time ago, at a very laid back tournament, I had three lava axes in my opening hand and killed the opponent with them and an aggressive elf. I also got the fourth in my hand before he died.
I dislike that first nickname for Mystic Archaeologist. Casting Divination only puts you up 1 card (because you have to spend a card to cast it) whereas activating Mystic Archaeologist's ability puts you up 2 cards, which is more similar to Jace's Ingenuity (spend one card to draw three), which also has the same mana cost as the Archaeologist's ability. Sooo... Ancient Ingenuity?
Which one? Because the first was pretty derogatory imo, and I would *not* be okay with anyone saying that at the game store I work at. 'Crocodile Hunter' is funny enough though.
Alpine Moon does remove Tron because it checks if you control lands with the land types "Urza's Tower" "Urza's Power-Plant" and "Urza's Mine." Otherwise it would be worded "if you control a land named"
I was just about to say this myself
That said, as far as I can tell, it has not proven itself to be a relevant sideboard card.
Errata is weird.
Yeah, Alpine Moon isn't a good sideboard in anything because it's good against exactly one deck.
MTG Errata generally tries to maintain the original intent of the card. If looking for types works better or closer to original intent with tron-lands, why not do it that way?
William Kienzle Supertypes come before the dash on a type line. They are subtypes.
30:00
to take it one step further: *bluem blade*
Alpine Moon absolutely does hose Tron completely. It removes the Land Type (e.g. Urza's Tower has land type Urza's Tower), which is what the lands check to see if the condition of controlling all 3 is met. Tron cannot tap any of its lands for 2 or 3 until they remove the Alpine Moon naming one piece.
Open...the Graves. Stop...having them be closed.

So that's why it's an umbrella - it tries to protect you from the storm.
@@hiimemily nice
Maybe Ajani just trims his fur into the shape of abs.
1:16:25
My preferred nickname for Vigilant Baloth is "Fuck, dude, it sure is."
I always called the planeswalker side of Nicol Bolas "The Legend Killer" since he strikes the same pose as Randy Orton and previously killed Ugin.
I forgot about all of the nicknames I put in (except for Time Walking Stick, which sounds like it was pretty common). Really glad Into the Maw of Heck made it too.
There's only one thing you can say or do when you cast Daggerback Basilisk...
"Well I ain't no Daggerback Girl!"
I greatly enjoy these, and I thank you for the effort involved in making them. I also think crowdsourcing nicknames is a great idea, and hope that continues as well. Cheers!
for more inside baseball, Phylactery Lich = Noted Lich Paul Anka
Or perhaps the legendary lich lord Milton Bradley for extra points?
My Goblin Trashmaster one is: Danny Devito impression: I'm the Trashman.
Infernal Reckoning just makes me think of an episode of Dragon Ball Z Abridged where one of the villains is huge and keeps squeezing Goku and making him squeak...so my nickname for it is "Let's see if we can make you squeak..."
My Mentor of the Meek nickname is LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS! TO DEFEAT THE HUNS!
Thud does have a nickname. It's Flang. WOTC R&D called it that until they realized it would confuse players so they changed it to Thud.
"All of his other relatives were crocodiles, but his grandmother was a giraffe!" Bogstomper confirmed for Crossbreed Labs.
It's really funny that the one you went for for Liliana was "untouched by players" because she's actually been insane in the Standard Zombie deck
They could be referring to how she is not very playable in Limited.
Holy crap! I didn't think I got any on the list this time. Everyone's submissions were so good, but then I got two back to back. Thanks again for polling the Chat, LRR. It helps to feel like part of the team.
Whenever Sea Mare is cast in my games, we say "SHOO BE DO!", but mostly because of the memes.
The Baucis and Philemon reference...splendid, simply splendid!
Palladia-mors the ruiner should've been "dude! No spoilers please!"
Hell yeah! I got a couple!
-Doomed dissenter
-Herald of Faith
-Horizon Scholar
-Skyrider Patrol
-Valiant Knight (Thanks Kathleen)
Also, stuff I suggested but also other people got
-Djinn of Wishes
-Bone to Ash
-Declare Dominance
-Graveyard Marshal
Great episode, was a lot of fun participating!
Sucky clock is actually my 16 year old sister's name for her new favorite card in her sucky (vampire) deck. . . . I did a victory dance when I heard gram attributing that to me.☺☺☺
I like saying “what makes you think it was murder” when Murder comes around
Woo! Glad to hear my suggestions get in, but man everyone's were hilarious today!
If only I'd realized to use a username... -_-
My favorite thing about Ajani's Last Stand is how it interacts with an opponent's Nicol Bolas, the Ravager. You can discard it to Nicky's ETB trigger, giving you a perfect counter to it (until Op ponies up 7 mana)
Could have doubled down on Abjani, Abversary of Tyrants :D
Ha-ha-ha, "Manewhirler" is spot-on on so many levels! My favourite this time around.
"The White Knight That Knocks Twice" is a wonderful deep cut.
1:04:00 Whaddup it's ya boy sarksnard529 here with a special treat for you today...
Exclusion mage should have been "you weren't invited!"
I personally like to call Cleansing Nova as Austere Request.
40:25 In DND the devils are lawful and constrained to a highly structured beurocracy.
You say "Bone Dragon" when you cast it, then say "Is reeeady" at the start of you next upkeep. Bonus points if you carry the 'goonnnnnnn...' all the way through your opponent's turn.
We always called Fraying Omnipotence 'the 2HG self-destruct button' because it will always immediately end the game in a draw by killing both teams.
yeah I called it two deaded giant
BTW Graham the Kinder Eggs are no longer banned in the US (at least in some states).
I don't think the US will ever get rid of that meme.
"SLEEEEEeeeeep" is used a lot in MST3K, as a reference to cheesy hypnosis portrayals in old movies.
Specifically “The Phantom Creeps”. Bela Lugosi!
I like calling colossal dreadmaw Barney.
Ok so I was drinking bottled water at 44:14 and I might die of drowning if I don't get it out of my lungs.
currently "top-deck-lethal clap clap clap clap clap" is no longer the current button... its now "Timeout Used" in reference to timeouts in magic the gathering: arena
I feel like the flip side of Nicol Bolas's nickname should've been the full "Behold! The field in which I grow my f*cks. Lay thine eyes upon it and thou shalt see that it is barren"
Hieromancer's Cage: "Law protecc, but it also hold bacc"
Vine Mare: "Long Horse"
I named the human form of Chromium Chromie, after the gnome/ timetravelling dragon from WOW.
I have never clicked a video faster. SO HAPPY THIS IS OUT!!!!
Amulet of Safekeeping shuts down both of modern Storm’s main wincons. The first ability stops grapeshot, the second stops the tokens from empty the warrens
Surge Mare... Seabiscuit.
Vine Mare, Tree-Biscuit.
C. R. Ryan I snorted
Heiromancer's Cage should obviously be,
"DESPITE ALL MY RAGE, I AM STILL JUST A BULL IN A CAGE!"
Aerial Engineer: “The pioneers used to ride these babies for miles” because he thinks he can drive a rock
Amulet of Safekeeping deals with tokens so it stops all storm win conditions, with the first ability dealing with grapeshot and the second ability deals with Empty the Warrens.
Thud nick name : aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh (breath) aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh repeat then play the card ☺
Im glad i got a nickname in there even if it was Yeet...
34:35 I mean, frills like that are normally a defensive feature, so they mean there's something even bigger in that ecosystem that preys on the serpents.
The shouting 'SLEEEEEP!' is part of an MST3k bit, but I can't for the life of me remember the episode.
Metamorphic Alteration, aka "That's you? That's me!"
with frilled sea serpent- lion fish spines (the frills) contain deadly toxins so the frills are actually the problem if its like a lion fish
For the record, Seabiscuit is a successful racehorse. So... Sickbiscuit... Yeah, I'm not going to explain that further
38:19 Gigantosaurus: Five Trees, Very good Dino, 10/10 xD
Meteor golem: WhEre'S yOuR pAPer nOW?
Rise from the Grave you're supposed to say like the beginning of Altered Beast!!!
Been waiting for the vid 😃😃😃
On Planeswalker deck cards:
"No one likes them."
I like them. The Aggressive Mammoth is in my mono-green standard deck in Arena. It could be that I just need to find a better card, but it gives my team trample and that has won me a few games.
Vine mare should've been The Gorse Horse, although the "Rant about why they keep printing hexproof" is still really funny
Tezzeret grafting the bridge into himself can be seen on his new Planeswalker card, where his ultimate is "You get an emblem with 'on your end step, activate Planar Bridge for free'".
It’s also the reason the Immortal Sun was able to leave Ixalan.
Theoretically he could have opened the Bridge without literally eating it, but it certainly makes it easier.
DaMullet The Bridge was seen to be destroyed at the end of Aether Revolt, as seen on the card Dark Intimations, so the other possibility was that he took the plans and made a new one. I don't remember where but it was reiterated somewhere during the Ixalan story that Tezzeret had it grafted to him.

that Stand joke killed me!
9:53 “If X=Y’s life total, solve for Y”
Does this mean we will never get Battlebond Nicknames then?
Knight's Pledge: "2 years ago I pledged, I got buff, accepted to college, but no knight status."
OH I'm actually early. I'm glad I got to see the facial hair gradient on the podcast today
I would've cqlled meteor golem "CANNONBAAAAAALLL!"
Re: Thud:
If Fling is what you'd expect, then the right nickname is "Flung"
For those keeping track, yes, the comments filled with correct answers on how Alpine Moon actually works
SLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEPPP!!! - Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Blood divination:dead man's recall
I love switcheroo and lava axe!
This one was a lot harder for me, because of how generic a lot of the names were. I’m glad cat-man-dude got in though.
I approve the Vivien Reid nickname. I've been saying that since previews.
Which one? Because the first was pretty derogatory imo, and I would *not* be okay with anyone saying that at the game store I work at.
'Crocodile Hunter' is funny enough though.
Ian Kniel Crocodile Hunter and its derivatives
1:11 Be real, how many times did you guys have to practice that?
Onakke Ogre, holy shit the power creep is real.
I still like [heaves a sigh] Master Thopterist.
How did Sai, Master Thopterist not get nicknamed THOPTER STYLE? (A play on Psy's Gundham Styles)
Hostile Minotaur: Mad cow: dis deez
Oh come on, guys. How is Lightning Mare not literal Thunderhorse? The Dethklok reference writes itself. XD
No! Snapping Drake could have been “Snappy Flappy”!
I'm so happy health horse and hex horse got in xD
I did the whole cycle with each one starting with h and ending with horse
I don't know why but nicky flippy killed me
How did Walking Corpse end up as "Black Bear"? Did nobody suggest "Grisly Bear"? oO
Did LRR ever play BL2 in some recorded format? I've searched far and wide and found nothing but this reference has given me newfound hope.
53:50 If Cam where there and you said that Graham....I'm sure he would compliment and Slap you for saying it the way he would
I come from the future to note that 41:38 is a 2/1, not a 3/3 and has an ability. Its not a true elk.
Rivet counting for the name of 51:06, but not for the 5 mana 10/10 dino? Honestly, I found the dino's name more offensively wrong than the golem's.
People at my LGS kept calling Goblin Trashmaster "Danny DeVito" and im not sure why
Where does this get announced and nicknames suggested? I missed this and would have submitted if I knew about it.
It's Meteor Golem if it gets counter spelled
Fraying Omnipitance is litterally Big Pox. We already got Smallpox.
The one dislike from the person who didn't get their nickname(s) in the Podcast
Disappointed that nobody made a “Lovely Horse” reference.
