    If you decide you want a VPN and aren't sure which one to pick, check out the recommendations on the PrivacyGuides website. They happen to be the same ones I would recommend. For several to numerous reasons, depending on the provider, I wouldn't recommend any of the others.

    good video. i have pretty much the same ideas about it being waste of money for most people. it seems like most creators promoting it don't even know what they are good for

      Thanks! Yeah, that's what annoys me about creators shilling it. I don't think most even know what these are good for and just use the talking points provided by the VPN companies.
      To add on to your other comment, I think the three recommendations in PrivacyGuides all support split tunneling and I believe all say they don't collect logs. One of them was even proven to be true in a recent police raid.

    I spend a lot of effort in comment sections of videos that have VPN sponsors trying to educate people, but it's nice to see people making debunking videos like this. Thanks for that.

    The fact that your ISP can sell your information to "Partners" is enough reason for me to keep my VPN. I've consulted recently for a Telecomm and can confirm, that outside of California and a couple other states, there is no "opt-out" or need to disclose such. Also note, there is no Audit procedure for the collection, DB aggregation, safety of the data.
    P.S : If you are on Windows, forget about privacy.

      The unfortunate reality is that rampant data collection is everywhere. Cell phones are WAY worse than using Windows without a VPN. Everyone is doing this garbage now. Even household appliances are now "smart" and are collecting data. Mozilla just published some research today talking about how even cars are collecting massive amounts of data.

    When you say that streaming providers recognize the common VPN IPs, that also applies to banking. Wells Fargo will know that you're logging into your account from a VPN, so they probably won't trigger a fraud response.
    Really good video, though. Good shid. People need to watch

      That's good to know. I didn't know they started doing that. I imagine there was a pretty big flood of people having that issue before the IT teams worked around it. I'm guessing a lot of smaller regional banks and local banks probably still have a fraud trigger for VPNs, as they don't have the funding for top tier IT.

      I dont know they are for sure, but I imagine they were forced to confront the issue of VPNs when everyone and their grandma started using them. It would be in their interest to know these IPs, same as for streaming services. Smart IT people find a way

    Good video ! I run encrypted DNS and OpenVPN on my own server that i can be accessed from anywhere with a full domain name. At least there aint no logs left around. I have my home stuff configured only to use the encrypted DNS server, and only use the Open VPN server when i really need to, no point having the overhead just because...but like when i'm outside on a random network, sure!

    Only reason I've been thinking about a vpn is for getting around geo blocking, there are some sites I can't visit that I want to

    • @KenHarrisio
      @KenHarrisio  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      VPNs work pretty well for that. The streaming platforms is what most people use for circumventing geo blocking, so they ban the IPs pretty fast. Regular sites are a lot easier to deal with using a VPN.

      In the US your ISP now sell your data to "partners". It started doing this in 2019. As I remember, you can only opt out of this in California and 1 other state I can't recall right now.
