They are both very nice headsets for that purpose. The Sony XM3/XM4 you'll be able to wirelessly connect to your MacBook via bluetooth, so a little more convenient in that respect. Hi H C thank you for the kind comments. Great question. Yes they do! And the sound quality with ANC powered on (with the 3.5m plugged in) is still really good as well.
Thank you! Yeah it's a really cool boom mic, especially since it allows you to chat through headphones that sound great but didn't come with a compatible mic of themselves for gaming applications
That's what I was thinking. Surely there is a way to turn down the bass and crank up the mids. I know there is an app for the headphones, I just don't know if that app is only for use on the phone or you could use it to permanently change the EQ of the headset regardless of the device used.
1000xm3 are muddy when it comes to mids and highs, they excel in bass. You need headphones that have a flatter eq profile. If you need ANC headphones the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 ii have a better sound profile for gaming. I've returned my Sony's for the Bose. Picked up the Bose refurbed for $150.
That’s the problem I’m having now. I have the wh1000x. I use them for war zone. But the treble isn’t there. And the bass is too high. Trying to figure how to adjust it.

@@JohnHammer Hi John, I'm wondering if the XM3s are really behind in playing FPS games... XM3s do have that surround sound and the noise cancelling function blocks out unnecessary noise without raising the game volume higher. Theoretically, if you can adjust things, i think it would beat any gaming headset given that it has superior speakers in it.. What do you think? (i currently have an arctis 7 and 1000xm3 but im thinking of selling the arctis 7 since that, to me, feels like a toy..)
This is my opinion i have freedom of speech. I would NEVER buy overpriced gaming headphones. You can't put the emphasis on the word 'IS', nobody would say 'which IS better?', at least not in this context. Music sounds incredible on the Sonys and you can adjust the EQ on the free iOS Android app to dial in the perfect audio levels for your listening.
@@JohnHammer this video was quite informative.
Really cool video ! That’s what I was looking for
idk this channel but good work bud
Thanks Zeegum!
sorry for the n00b question, i'm waiting for a pair of mx3's. why can't you talk in game chats, don't they have a built in mic for calls?
It has a mic, sony doesn't support it. Get a Playstation camera, it has a mic u can use
It does have a built in mic, but it won't work when plugging in to a PS Dualshock 4 controller. Adding a boom mic to the xm3 will enable mic support when connected to the PlayStation.
i have the same headset and my party crying that they hear them self, i used to have razer kraken and everything was good. do tou have the same echo problem? seems like mic is very sensitive
I had sony m3 and for gaming I was about to order HyperX cloud stinger. U save me! Thanks
You're welcome! I love the sound quality of the XM3s
@@JohnHammer Boom mic was no available in my country so I bought Maona au a04t...Prblm solved! Thanks!
If you connect your Sony WH-1000XM3 with bluetooth to your tv and then turn on your ps4, will it stream audio to the headphones?
Do you know if the boom pro mic works with the xm4 aswell or if its only for the xm3
Both!
hello thank you for the video. Do the Sony xm3's still enable you to use Anc while pluggin it into the 3.5mm of the ps4 controller.??
Hi H C thank you for the kind comments. Great question. Yes they do! And the sound quality with ANC powered on (with the 3.5m plugged in) is still really good as well.
Great video, I didn't know you could get that kind of boom mic.
Thank you! Yeah it's a really cool boom mic, especially since it allows you to chat through headphones that sound great but didn't come with a compatible mic of themselves for gaming applications
Can you adjust the audio settings for Call of Duty with the Sony’s for PS4?
That's what I was thinking. Surely there is a way to turn down the bass and crank up the mids. I know there is an app for the headphones, I just don't know if that app is only for use on the phone or you could use it to permanently change the EQ of the headset regardless of the device used.
1000xm3 are muddy when it comes to mids and highs, they excel in bass. You need headphones that have a flatter eq profile. If you need ANC headphones the Bose Quiet Comfort 35 ii have a better sound profile for gaming. I've returned my Sony's for the Bose. Picked up the Bose refurbed for $150.
Did u try editing the sound on the sony app to add more treble, lows and lower bass to see how they worked on warzone?
That’s the problem I’m having now. I have the wh1000x. I use them for war zone. But the treble isn’t there. And the bass is too high. Trying to figure how to adjust it.
@@Snazy30 Yea, I just ended up returning mine as I couldn't figure it out aswell and I majority use them for gaming, I kept having a problem of the earmuffs making my esr sweat because of the leather. Just copped a gx6 amp and some beyerdynamic 990s!
@@Jlk8373 how has that setup been workin for u?
@@victorbenitez363 It's been great man, The Beyerdynamic 990 and they sound very good. They do have a bit of treble it gets a bit getting used to but with the gx6 amp It made a very good combo. I Use it for warzone and it's very good. Sounds good and I could hear footsteps very well! Would definitely reccomend the setup. Would probably run you 300 for the headset and amp!
Some I would reccomwnd thoughts if your using it for a ps4 like me make sure you get a external USB mic that's supported by playstation as the headphone jack on the the gx6 does not work with the ps4 chat. If your on pc just disregard everything I just said as everything should work easy and well on pc.
dont sony have an app for equalizers. like a gaming mode filter?
Sometimes the intelligence is in simple things 4:25
Nice video man was not hoping to find such video :p
Thanks! I always try to find something helpful to talk about that I've had issues with in the past that I know can help fellow gamers!
I only play story mode games so the mic is no big deal to me and im about to get the xm4 is it gonna perform well on ps4 and ps5 ?
It should. The xm4 is very similar to the xm3 other than some incremental improvements
Ive got to ask, does the auxiliary boom mic that you're using have any noticeable effect on the headphones sound quality?
Thanks John, nice informative video. I have one question though do you have 7.1 surround sound? I guess that uses software on the ps4?
I bought the xm4 and i get a lot of sound delay while gaming and low sound, does anybody know how to fix that??
Sini did you make sure the cable is plugged into the controller all the way? Sometimes if it's out a little bit it can cut the sound off
My sister has the Sony WH-1000XM3 and when I tried them out, I noticed that they were good, especially the bass but I wouldn't use it for FPS games.
The bass is really nice on these!
@@JohnHammer Yes, definitely. The best I have ever heard.
It’s Sony WH work with kind of thing like watching movie and like … survive gaming especially SCUM? Thank you
I have a cloud 2 and I'm getting an xm3 which I will also use for gaming if the sound is right. I'll be using the steel series gaming DAC to connect them (have been doing so for years with my cloud 2, the cloud 2 sound is 1000x better through the steel series dac than its own mini dac cable or through 3.5)
when using pc you can turn up high frequency sounds so they can be used in FPS gaming
nice content. well done. very informative and helpful.
how does the game sound ? will you get the digital sound or anolog?
With the WH-1000XM3 playing call duty mobile, I can hear the footsteps exactly where coming from. Using just Bluetooth
That’s great Big CountrySD. The XM3s are a solid quality pair of noise cancelling over ear headphones that are easily worth their price, especially when they go on sale!
Do they become uncomfortable to wear after like 2 -3 hours , i have sony 950b1 i thik they have a little tight or hard headband and makes it very uncomfortable for long use, Will some mid range hyper x will be good for me? I just don’t want the skullcrusher headband these 950s have
SUPREME xD No, 1000mx3 are actually very comfortable, I use them to play call of duty mobile, and wear them probably a good four or five hours during my gaming sessions.
are the sony good for tv shows and movies as well?
Drizzly Drake Yes, I use them a lot to watch TVs and shows.
Next video, compare hyperx vs sony while hearing music
Noted!
Sony wins Hands down, gaming headphones tend to compromise on sound quality
Thats not even a fair comparison lol.... I have both sony blows out the hyperx in music
Lol can’t you just connect your xm3 wirelessly though BT to your TV and enjoy your game??? Why do you need to hook up a wire to your controller?
The wire enables the XM3's to be used as both for gaming audio, as well as for communicating on a boom mic for online gaming.
Because it makes sound lag in some cases wich is very bad for gaming
Can you use this mic with Bluetooth connection ? ( discord or just phone talk )
Steelseries Arctic 9 wireless or HyperX Cloud II Wireless ?
I liked the simplicity in the video
Thanks!
Does it work for xm4
can you use noise cancelling while playing ps4 or pc?
Yes! The noise cancelling function works on the XM3 while wired
Amazing Video 👍
Can we use it for gaming 👀👀
Yes! You can use any for gaming!
@@JohnHammer there is no latency? Or in order to avoid latency use wired?
Great video. Could you configure the sony's equalizer so it is better for FPS?
Thanks Ali. Unfortunately for the XM3s you can only adjust the equalizer while connected through a mobile device like iOS or Android. If you want a total custom equalizer experience check out the Sony Gold or Platinum headsets
@@JohnHammer wouldn't that mean you could change the EQ settings on your phone then plug them into the ps4? Or does it reset to default after once you disconnect them from your phone?
I was totally thinking the same thing! I’ve tried multiple times adjusting it through the app, unpairing it, and then hooking it up to the PS4 controller, but the EQ setting seems to go back to default.
@@JohnHammer thanks a ton man! Really appreciate the info!
Lmao he kinda looks like Bugha grown up version😂
that is so pitty that you can't use sony's mic via cable :( I also tried to connect my XM4 to pc through bluetooth, but you can't use stereo sound and mic at the same time.
Nice video bro
Does it have stereo audio?
This is exactly what i am looking for!
i used to game with a xm3 and i havent noticed that you couldnt locate where enemies were
With the xm3 can you hear for example from where an enemy is coming like footsteps behind you or sounds on your right or left? Or like sounds from 30 meters be more quiet but sounds from 5 meters more loud?
is there any latency issue while gaming with non gaming headset?
None that I was able to notice, and I'm really into audio speed
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome! Thanks so much for watching!
great content!
Thank you!
try the sony wh-1000xm5??
Dope video!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it
would the 'high boost 'sound setting in warzone help with the footsteps in warzone when using the sonys?
It's worth a try! The Sony and Warzone combo sounds nice indeed
Can you use the mic while gaming
For the XM3 the built in mic will not work for gaming and will require an additional boom mic. The mic on the HyperX definitely works for any gaming application
Unable to use WH-1000xm3 and 4 as gaming headphones simultaneously with Discord voice chat.
I can chat with the xm3 without external mic on ps5
Good video mr John .
Iam from india , good work .
Your chanel will grow and make sure your face is nearer to camera so we can njoy watching you with your information.😊
Thank you so much! And thank you for the kind feedback!
Well I play pc sooooo no cord for me
Did you ever get them? I was thinking of grtting them for my pc
There is Bluetooth you know
I never had sony headphones. The 4th gen is my first pair. I'm waiting for these in the mail.
Nice choice!
Have they come, I bought these headphones and it’s the best investment I’ve ever made
@@ua9764 yes. And also if you want ldac on check your Bluetooth settings under advanced. Word of advice.
The sonys sound better than the cloud alpha when wired. Maybe its the lower ohms. When the headset is off its 16 ohms.
@@justinw7323 how about sony when using wirelessly vs (basically wired) cloud alpha
I already have the alpha but i'm planning to buy sony m4
You're awesome. Thanks
You're welcome!
love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩
I do the same thing these with an aux and mic
Moises it's great isn't it? It allows you to connect and chat with headphones that weren't originally intended for gaming like the XM3s but sound great when you wire them with an aux and boom mic.
@@JohnHammer yup
Sony WH LAGLESS for PC ???
I like your videos but editing and thumbnails could have been improved :)
I also do designing let me know if need me (I might do work for free(some videos))
Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad that you enjoy my videos!
Thanks for the video! I have xm3s but was unsure if it is worth it to get a gaming headset on top of that. Thanks for helping me compair the two! Subbed, have a great day!
You're welcome TML Robotics. I'm glad that this video was able to help you with your decision! The XM3s are an excellent pair of over ear noise cancelling headphones, but having the chance to try out a pair of gaming headsets like the HyperX Alphas with the differences in its sound stage is definitely worth it.
I will stick to my audio technica M70x for the rest of my life, and i will only buy other studio monitoring headphone if it broke. The only "plus" for gaming headphone is the LED, shape and shit. And i tested my friend's $100 hyperx and i was like "wtf am i hearing"
On ps5 it works with beats by dre
true i use that also hahaha good quality on ps5
I have a Playstation camera which i use as a mic. Same mx3
You're likely going to find this complaint impertinent, but the way you wrote the title is wrong. You can't put the emphasis on the word 'IS', nobody would say 'which IS better?', at least not in this context. What the emphasis should instead be on is the word 'which', making it 'WHICH is better?'. Honestly I have no idea how a native person can make this mistake
