- Breathless Riviera Resort and Spa is located in Riviera Maya about 20-30 minutes from the Cancun Airport. We stayed from June 26-29th 2022 and upgraded to the Xhale Club. This all inclusive resort has a definite party vibe and checks off a lot of the boxes that we love about a resort but had 2 main issues that would cause us not to return.
The first was the beach. The sargassum was very bad when we were there and we were not able to spend our time in the ocean. Although the beach itself is very clean and you could sit and enjoy the white sand. The pools were large but the water was very warm. I had to cool off in the beach shower to get relief from the heat. Definitely watch the whole video as we go into detail about each category so you can make your own decision if this is the right resort for you!

The point if Breathless is a more wild party. That is the brand. Saying this for folks who are interested but didn't know.
I just got back from this resort last week.. I got to tell you I really enjoyed it.. the food did lack a little flavor but not in every restaurant. The ocean was useable but there was a bit of seaweed from a storm that came through before we got there.. all and all I would definitely rate this resort an 8.5 easy

I recommend Secrets the Vine, we were at this hotel twice and it was great each time, I would also like to see your "evaluation" of the hotel I suggested.
We stayed at Breathless in 2019 and stayed in the old Xhale Club and it was amazing. We then booked a group trip for June 2021, but we made the reservation in October of 2020 right before the change were the old Xhale changed to Secrets. I have no idea why they made the change it just didn’t make sense. But that Secrets is not a full resort, it’s more of a Secrets building on the Breathless resort. Unfortunately they do a bad job of informing their guest of that. If people think it’s a separate full Secrets resort they will be disappointed. It’s just a building.

May I ask what month it was when you were there? What months did they say were good.. ?? Were due to go in early April ,last year we went to another secrets in cancun it was amazing, beach was pretty good and lots blue and green, beautiful 😍, it was Playa de Carmen, directly across from cozumel, beautiful, excellence service, yes secrets are the way to go for service, I feel you're alot like me, I don't like noise and i like a nap, I love the beach not the pools so much, I loved last years, they had lil lagoon pools, not too hot, but yes I wish this one was better, hmmm I'm sure will still be fun, thanknyou for the wonderful review,ohhh it was secrets monxche' ,best by far

I’ve been to many Secrets resorts. Hands down, Secrets Akumal is the best & has nicest beach!

We stayed 6 nights at Secrets Tulum in December 2023. If you're thinking about another Secrets experience we definitely recommend it, it was a wonderful stay! (The food was a solid 9+/10)

Yes! You learn every time that you go. Our first experience in Cancun was the same. We went to Haven and it was just okay at the time So many great resorts to try!!!

Great video you guys. Please tell me this. I have knee issues and going up and down stairs is a problem wirh me. Hi Steve! Most resorts accommodate people in your situation with everything you mentioned. This resort is perfect because it’s smaller to navigate and if you let the staff know ahead of time I’m sure they will help you

Thanks for watching!! Excellence Playa Mujeres was awesome. I think the beach would be better from Jan-Marc. Just got back from Le Blanc but was a little too sedate. It’s so hard to pick!! But EPM was great!! I love the beaches in the hotel zone. But have only been to Sun palace and Le Blanc. Did you look into Live Aqua or Hyatt. Heard those are good too
One that I was looking into is Atelier Playa Mujeres. Are you familiar with that one? I have not tried the Hyatt

The Secrets section used to be Xhale Club when the whole resort was Breathless. It was definitely worth the upgrade then. Maybe better just booking in as Secrets so you get access to the whole resort.

we have been to secrets maroma beach, akumel, playa mujeres....... and another I am drawing a blank. Secrets are the bomb. I am scared to try another resort after the experiences we have had. We stayed a rui and it was NOTHING like secrets.

Good review exactly what we experienced. Upgrading to exhale not worth it!! Same alcohol in exhale club as throughout the hotel. And the website did say we had access to secrets. Yet we were told NO when we got to the hotel. The staff and entertainment group was the best thing. I’ve stayed at a breathless Punta Cana, and was allowed, full access on at the other hotel next-door dreams.

Omg I saw that!!!! So want to go!! We are going to Punta Cana next month so maybe after that!! During the summer might be a good time to see what the seaweed is like. Could be a good option when it’s bad inland
Hubby and I went with another couple 2 years ago for my bday and Secrets was quiet, great service, clean room (some seaweed, went in may) but it was absolutely amazing and beautiful! Was also able to go next door to dreams (went for dinner one night at the Brazilian restaurant).

Thank you for the detailed review. I just booked this for May and I’m already regretting it lol. I’m not really into partying too much and I do like the beach and it looks like I made the wrong decision in choosing a resort 😢. I can’t change or cancel anymore so I hope I’m just in my head and I have a good relaxing time. Do you think I’ll able to relax with all this partying going on?

Wait until you get there the day of. Tell them that you are very unhappy because you didn’t realize it was such a noisy party resort and that you want to be on the secrets side or closer to it. If they can’t put you over there ask for access to that side. Be nice but act very disappointed

BTW, as a business traveler - including trips to Europe and China - I support and agree to ALWAYS carry-on and NEVER check a bag! Too much downside. Pack the basics and use destination laundry/cleaning services for longer trips (4+ days). Also, if you absolutely need something, it’s likely a suitable item can be purchased locally (key is a good front desk or concierge). Keep preaching… Don’t check bags!!

I have heard a lot of good about Secrets Akumal so u may want to try there. If we get to vacay to Mexico next year we will be trying it out. The hubs n I love AMR resorts n have stayed at Jade, Shappire n Dreams Rivera Cancun n enjoyed them all. Do wish Dreams RC had a quiet pool. We usually anymore book preferred n have enjoyed that feature with the extras. Breathless is a bit too much party for us but have had friends go there n absolutely love it. Sounds like u had a nice 3 day stay there.

Great video. We go to Cancun every year and are struggling to find a perfect fit. Breathless looks like it turns the party up to 10, we are looking for more of a 7.5.

Majestic Costa Mujeres is about the same price range as Breathless and way less partying but still fun. I did a video on that too Has it’s flaws just like all of them. @@3Days3Noches have you tried the TRS Coral in Costa Mujeres? That's where we went last time I was in Mexico. Very, very nice!!! It's the upgraded, adults only section of Grand Pallidum resorts in Costa Mujeres. Much like the Barcelo Maya Riviera you reviewed but much smaller. I'm thinking the Barcelo Maya is my next Mexico trip!!!!

Secrets is def your speed.a little more relaxed and the service and luxury is their signiture.. try Secrets Royal Beach Dom Rep. A group of us couples went there in August 2021

You’re welcome! Everyone seems to do it differently but we give at least $1 every time we went to the bar and ordered drinks. In the restaurants we usually left $5 Some people will tip the bartender ahead of time if they know they are going to be at the same bar all day like $10-20. They will appreciate anything!!

Great review. I have been to this resort 8 times. Always Xhale. So bad to see they have downgraded many perks they used to feature
1. Martini bar used to include belvedere not smirnoff
2. Hydrotherapy was complimentary every day not once per stay
3. Their top vodka was Belvedere and/or grey goose at Xhale club and some times at some bars
4. They used to hand out a yellow ticket to obtain a complimentary Veuve Cliquot champagne bottle at the Xcelerate pool!
5. All xhale suites (excluding swim out rooms) featured a jacuzzi tub in the bamcony
6. Xhale used to have a quiet pool access

That's good to know if you stay on the Secrets side they still give the daily hydrotherapy and the free bottle of Vueve Clicquot! Those were great perks. A question I have is when I was there in 2019 there was actually a Belvedere bar at the party pool by the restaurants, is that still there? I think I may have a picture of it.

Booked here in November with girlfriends, is there an area to escape the crazy partying if we want to ? We like to lay on the beach - can we soak up the sun ? We want to party but not sure we’re up for all that craziness - making me alitlle nervous. Been to many secrets but this is my first breathless. And was trying to decide between here and soul cancun. Any input ?
Yes! You can definitely get away. The other pool is not like that. Just games etc. honestly you may want to consider staying in the Secrets part if you can upgrade to that!! Really liked it there. Low key vibes then access to all of Breathless. I heard soul Cancun has a lot of kinks to work out!
Would you recommend Breathless or Moon Palace Grand?

The hotel zone beaches are great. It’s a little more expensive but worth it. Also check out Majestic elegance Costa Mujeres. We did a review on that one too
looks like we're going ot have a bachelorette here, if some people got rooms at secrets and some at breathless based on price/upgrades that people want to pay, would it be like 2nd class citizens? can you walk freely to the room areas around the hotel right (like if we wanted to have a drink in someone's room on the secrets side before going out?) I know the breathless side would not have the pool or the one restaurant.
Def go Secrets!!! And yes you can go to others rooms but they can’t use the pool or restaurants. Have fun ha ha!!!!
Where in mexico has nice beaches in january ?
Many of the areas around Cancun in z January have nice beaches. My favorite is the hotel zone but lots of waves and can get rough. If you like calmer you can look at the resorts on Punta Cancun or way South towards Tulum
Is this resort okay for friends or is it more of a couples resort? Looking for a resort with the nightlife but hoping to meet like minded people on our stay and enjoy the resort meeting new people!
Lots and lots of friend groups were here!!! It seemed as if a lot of people were meeting others etc and having fun in a safe environment 🤗🤗🤗
Hello! How strict were the dress codes for the formal restaurants? Long pants for men means slacks? Or are long jeans fine? And for women, short dresses okay? Going in 10 days!

We have not!! The beach is better at Breathless soul but I heard they are still working out kinks. But need to try!!!

Yes!! I have to say I was expecting it to be bad for the price we paid but it was a little above average!
Dumb question but how do you tip room service?
We usually try to find them in the hallway personally or just put it with a note when you leave for the day in the room
So if you booked at secret you get access to everything including the rooftop club ?
The rooftop club wasn’t open when we went but yes!

Would you suggest to stay on the Secrets side and just visit the Breathless side?
If you’re going to upgrade to Xhale club anyway than yes I would! It’s literally right next to Breathless. If you weren’t planning on upgrading it might be a bit more per night.

Royalton Riviera Cancun has double rainfall shower heads also. We won't even consider a resort if the shower doesn't have a rainfall shower. Spoiled.

That’s so tough! It depends on what you are looking for. We love the beaches in hotel zone but they are rough with waves and a little more expensive. Le Blanc and Sun Palace in that area. Barcelo Maya Riviera was very good! And calm beach!! Nov going to Excellence Playa Mujeres. Gets 5 stars on TripA and everyone says it’s their favorite.

I’m not proposing just yet but we just both want to travel together, party a little and maybe visit the Mayan pyramids! By the way your channel is awesome and very informative!

Great video you guys. Please tell me this. I have knee issues and going up and down stairs is a problem wirh me. Does this resort have facilities in place (elevators, ramps, golf carts etc) to help me get everywhere I might want to go? (ie: from room to restaurants, beach, pool etc..) Thanks so much, Steve S.
